Chapter 80: Protection Spell

Chapter 80: Protection Spell

I sat on my bed, my mind churning with thoughts, how could that Librarian be unknown? According to Vanessa, her species was unknown, with no trace of what she was, if not human then what? A cold chill found my body, my head could combust right at this minute.

And thanks to my door clicking open, I was able to snap out of it. Vanessa strolled in holding a cup, She gave me the biggest smile.

"Here, it’s warm, you need it"

"Thanks," I said dimly, took it, it was hot choco, I took a sip.

"Are you okay?"

I nodded. "Thanks to Dace I am"

She nods. "I heard," she said like she was still trying to clad her head around it.

"I will work on a spell, okay?"

"A spell?"

"Yes, for your nightmares, it’s not normal for you to relive whatever happened to you in your dream"

"Yeah Camille said that"

"Look, Emma, I will be honest with you, that dream could be an anchor to something" she began in a serious tone.

"An anchor?"

"Yes, you most certainly aren’t curse, so it must be it"

"An anchor to what?"

"A spell"

"A spell? So my dreams are witches doing, but I only know you and Owen" I said puzzled.

"I haven’t finished"

"Right," I nodded.

"It could be a spell or someone has cursed you of which I don’t know of, but whatever it was it’s not from the book"

"Then, I AM cursed then? I thought you said I wasn’t", of all the times she told me she would know, and yet it still ended in the fact that I was, just great.

"This is just theory Emma, I would certainly know if you’re cursed, but relating to the book, this could be anything"

I narrowed my eyes.

"To narrow it down, I need a strand of your hair, I can work up a protection spell and find out what exactly got you cursed"

"My hair?" I gave a cringed look.

"Yes yes, that’s what I need" she stretched out her hand.

"Really?"

"Come on Emma"

I groaned. "Fine" I murmured under my breath, plucking a strand and it hurt. "Ow!" I rubbed that area before hesitantly giving her my pulled out hair.

"That should do it, I will tell you when I’m done, don’t worry, you will get a good night’s sleep this night" she assured me with a bright smile.

I really hope I will because I could already picture a nice adequate night’s sleep with no nightmares and waking up like a normal person, I just couldn’t wait, I hope this works.

"Drink up, I will be back in a jiffy"

I stroked a nod observing as she retreated out of my room, that very moment my phone made a chime sound, but I was somewhat clueless because it took me a while before I figured it was mine, yeah new phone!

It was a message from Owen, I dropped my cup at the nightstand before I slid it open.

OWEN: Emma, I heard what happened, are you okay?

Yes, we didn’t see each other today, the exam I took was Chem, part of the course he didn’t register for.

ME: Yeah

DACE: Don’t yeah me, I heard from Vanessa

I sighed at his reply.

ME: I’m holding up fine

OWEN: I really wish I was there

ME: It’s okay I’m fine, Vanessa said something about a protection spell for me, so yay, no more nightmares.

OWEN: I really wish I could do more Emma, I just couldn’t track that lady, it’s my fault, I promise I will keep looking.

My heart fluttered by his words.

ME: It was my fault, not yours, I was playing detective and got myself in this mess.

OWEN: You’re still playing detective, maybe the next Sherlock Holmes

I sneered out loud before I could stop myself, and that helped because I felt a weight lifted off my chest.

ME: let’s hope I’m smart enough to survive the exams

OWEN: I trust you will

My fingers froze because I had no idea of what to type anymore, but Owen seems like he wasn’t out of words to type because that very familiar three dots popped up.

OWEN: I’m always here for you, Emma, you know that right?

A smile found my lips at his words, and I sighed deeply.

ME: Yeah

Dropping my phone and rubbing my eyes before collapsing on the bed, my eyes concentrated on my ceiling.

From the very moment I arrived in Juneau, my whole life was far different from the life I lived in Washington, it was the freaking opposite of normal, this was a life I never thought I would have, nor experience.

I turned my head to the bunch of roses seated just at my nightstand, I need to water those.

~

Vanessa told me I could sleep, but I was having a hard time doing so, my eyes were wide open, and not even a hint of slumber, like I was drained off it, it was just me and my dark room and that annoying dangling dreamcatcher or so I thought.

I heard my phone vibrate and I was puzzled as to who texted me this late. Why should I be? It was Dace!

DACE: Are you asleep?

I was about to type back a reply but his video call came in and I was up on my bed with a start and quickly turned on the light at my nightstand. Shit! I don’t even know how I look, my finger was already sliding the keys and I mentally cursed in my head.

His face popped up, fuck! Even this late he looked so breathtaking and was he outside? I could see the night skies.

"I’m sorry I should have given a warning for the video call"

"No no no it’s okay"

A wonderful smile found his lips. "You’re still awake"

"Yes," I murmured. "Vanessa fixed up a protection spell but I don’t think" I bit my bottom lip. "...I don’t think I can sleep"

The thought of seeing that vampire again or feeling cold, cold, I was cold right now and it made my body ache.

"Baby"

My eyes averted to the screen and locked with his ravishing hazel eyes.

"Look out your window"
