BLOOD LEGACIES -
Chapter 73: The Legacy Shop
Chapter 73: The Legacy Shop
I slammed the door shut and the car made that cranking noise like it was about to fall apart.
"You know, have you thought of putting this up for sale and getting a new one, at least one that doesn’t make sounds like..." I motion to the yet prolonged sound.
"Sell this old lady?" she gave me a look and I shrugged. "Not a chance, I love her"
"Great" I muttered following behind her.
"So this is..." I said observing the shop we stood before, it looked pretty normal to me, I eyed the other shops laying around, it was a bit crowded for a Sunday.
"Yes the Legacy shop," Vanessa said in a weak amusement, unlocking the door. "What were you expecting? A cave?"
I snorted a laugh. "Come on I didn’t say that"
She was already in. Well, I did expect a more voodoo style, but I knew better not to judge a book by its cover. I felt my phone vibrate and I quickly slid it out of my jeans pocket.
A beaming smile crossed my lips when I saw it was Dace texting.
DACE: Hey Angel
ME: Hi
Really Emma? Your boyfriend just texted you with a sweet name and you say ’Hi’?
DACE: ;-) Did you sleep well?
I think the little left of anxiety picked up that very instance when he asked that question. I fell still where I was not knowing what to type.
ME: Would you believe me if I said yes?
Not getting an instant reply I stepped into the shop, the bells made that ding sound. I stepped into the spacious stall, seeing Dreamcatchers decor paintings and flowers, so many flowers.
The display was quite good.
"So what do you think?"
I twirled seeing Vanessa giving me a big smile. "Well, it doesn’t look very..." I slid my hands into my cardigan pocket. "Voodoo"
"You mean like witches lair"
I chuckled. "I did not have that in mind"
"Ha very funny"
"But it looks nice though"
We heard the bell and we both turned to the entrance.
"I’m sorry Miss Adams, I know I’m late again and I will not be again," a young girl said, probably ranting, her brown hair knotted in twin braids.
"Oh, you always say that. Emma, meet my mini assistant, Carly"
"H-Hi Carly"
"Hi, is so good to meet you, Miss Adams talks about you a lot"
She sure does a lot!
Her dim blue eyes glittered and it was a wonderful color, she looked almost giggly and she was cute with those twin braids of hers, her dress sense was identical to Vanessa, I figured maybe it was a witch style to dress in odd mixed colors. Wait, is she a witch too?
"Carly, be a darling and show Emma around," Vanessa said, lifting some boxes and sauntering away.
"Sure Miss Adams"
"S-So what to explore?" I began hoping to be on a friendly note with her, it was really odd for me having the first approach but I figured it was time to try something new.
"Well as you can see we sell flowers and dreamcatchers as well as any interior mini decors you need for a comfy home"
"Hmm dreamcatchers"
"Ah yes, we have the normal ones and the ones highly infested with magic to keep the unwanted out" she blabbered faster than her mouth, her eyes widened in realization and she slammed her palm against her face.
And I chuckled. "Don’t worry I know"
"Really?"
"Yes and you should be careful about what you say"
"It’s no biggie, everyone in town is probably aware of the things around here"
"Really?"
"Yeah except the tourist"
"So much for the Law Of Coexistence" I muttered.
"It applies to new people to the town or tourists, but we hardly get any newbies"
"I see," I nodded.
"Hope I’m not too forward, I heard you’re dating a Devereaux" she whispers to me, almost like she was excited or extremely curious about what I have to say.
Okay now I was the center of attention, that didn’t seem right for me, but what did I expect?
We heard the doorbell and we both twirled.
"Supplies are here" Owen called holding 2 boxes like they weighed nothing.
"Owen"
His brown eyes met mine and I noticed he looked stunned to see me here. "Emma"
"Yay finally the boxes, hope more lamps were added?"
"Yes, Yes of course," Owen said, finally breaking gazes with me.
"Will take it from here" Carly offered.
"Oh no, they will crush you"
She made a pouting face.
"Now move" Owen nudged his head, she muttered under her breath with a blush across her cheeks, giving way for him.
I smiled at his gestures. He was back the next.
"Miss Adams the deliveries here"
"Okay, get to work!"
I heard my aunt call back.
"So..." Owen began rubbing the back of his neck. "It’s odd to see you here" he began.
"It’s not exactly odd, just wanted to see my aunt’s shop she’s been talking about"
"Hmm you mean you were hoping to see a witches lair"
"Why does everyone think that?" I groaned and he breathed a laugh.
"You didn’t call or return my messages, ever since the greenhouse" I began in a serious tone and he sighed.
"Yeah about that... " he paused, not knowing what to say. "So you’re dating him huh?" he changed the topic.
"I just wanna have a talk with my friend" I confessed and I noticed his eyes were saddened. "You’re not helping" I shook my head walking out of the stall before giving out a sigh.
"Hey," he took my arm and twirled me gently to face him.
"I’m sorry..." he began. "But you know I can’t play nice"
"Because he’s a Devereaux"
"Because he’s a werelion, and in spite of the treaty, they are still our foes, the only reason we are in good shoes with them is that they keep the vamps away"
"I’m aware of that Owen, weeks ago I felt like I was in a dark space with all the truth kept away from me, but now I know but that doesn’t mean our friendship should change, you’re my first friend" I added the last part in a whisper but he seemed to have heard me.
He sighed deeply. "Were you going somewhere?" he suddenly asked.
I rolled my eyes. "Yes, I have a book to return"
