Chapter 56: She Stays

Chapter 56: She Stays

At the slight knock on my room door, I turned my eyes away from my laptop. The door clicked open and Vanessa walked in.

"Hey"

"Hey"

And then she sighed. "I figured you aren’t going anymore, seeing as we just came back from the airport and you’re still here"

"I’m still here"

"I can see that" She walked to my bed and took a seat, there was a minute of silence before I broke it.

"It’s my choice Vanessa, It’s not that I don’t get you, I do"

"I know dear," she said with a smile on her lips. "So officially you’re here and know things you shouldn’t... I don’t mean to scare you but there are more crazy things to see, I sure hope you’re up for it"

"I will try... my aunt is a witch and my best friend is a warlock" I nod. "I think I can handle it"

"I hope you can"

"How does it work... you cast a spell and stuff?"

"When needed and it’s not that easy, not much time to do all that, we’re at peace"

"From the vampires"

"Yes"

I gulped.

"The incident with you, I’m looking into it I promise"

"It was really scary"

"I know, it’s okay, nothing like that will happen again, I promise"

"He said something odd, so many odd things, I didn’t wanna talk about it but..." I sighed.

"What did he say?" she asked, suddenly curious.

"About trying to find his way and getting lost when the town is just right there"

"It’s because of the barrier"

"Barrier?"

"Yes even though we have the Devereaux’s, Vampires can be greedy even if it means their life, the barrier was the next cause of action you see, to keep the unwanted out"

I blinked puzzled. "If there’s a barrier then how did the vampire find me?"

"That I don’t know, but our next cause of action is to strengthen the barrier so that something like this will never happen, Vampires are greedy as I said, only when they are after something do they get vicious and unstoppable"

I gulped. "Do you mean the vampire was looking for something?"

"I don’t know but there’s a reason it wandered far here, so I believe so"

I recalled my encounter with the vampire. "I just saw him standing there, I thought it was my classroom so I ran to him, wish I had just passed by" I murmured.

"What did you say?"

"Just a crazy ’what if’ not sure it would have changed anything just wish I haven’t gone to him"

"You mean the vampire didn’t find you? You found him?"

I shrugged. "If you put it that way yeah, stupid I know"

"How’s that possible?" she whispered.

"What do you mean?"

"The barrier is like a mirror of deflection, that’s why they get lost each time they try to wander here, it’s like passing a mouse without seeing it, that’s how the barrier works, they come here, they see nothing but forest even if the town is just up ahead"

"Then what does it have to do with me finding him?"

"He shouldn’t have seen you Emma, nor should he have seen him"

I paused, what was she trying to say? I mean I got her point about the barrier being a deflection, like a mirror in their eyes they can’t tell where you are and vice versa. But it did strike me though... I was able to see him and he saw me and judging from Vanessa’s looks that shouldn’t have happened.

"Thank god I suggest we strengthen it, the barrier must have been flawed," she said, convincing me and herself.

"Right" I murmured, still pondering on what she said.

I got off the school bus adjusting my bag and then my glasses. I caught sight of Owen and the gang so I walked toward them. I was about to give them a surprise of a lifetime, they must all think I have left town by now.

"Oh shit... she’s here," Henry said like I wasn’t just standing in front of them.

"Yeah... I’m here"

"I thought you were leaving," Miles said with puzzled looks. I shook my head.

"So you’re staying," Sarah intoned. "Even after what happened"

"Emma" Owen said with a look I couldn’t read.

"Yeah I’m staying"

"Tough" Henry comments with a shake of his head.

Their looks were giving me an awkward feeling. I knew they hoped I would have left town and how crazy it was that I was still here. The truth is, my decision is sort of crazy even though I don’t wanna admit it.

The school bells rang and my eyes darted to the other packing lot before looking back at the speechless group before me.

"See you guys in class" I whirled, walking to the set of angels before my eyes. It was Emilia who sent her eyes to me before Lucas.

"And she stays" she mused and I almost forgot how much of a beauty she is, always breathing taking in anything she wore. And how crazy I was to just walk up to them, this was a danger zone!

"Someone will definitely be happy," Lucas mused.

"And distracted," Emilia intoned. "Great, I have to endure not reading you"

"I still don’t get why you can’t," I said in a faint whisper.

"Believe me I’m dying to," she said with a smile but it wasn’t pleasant.

"Ease now Emilia"

"W-Where’s Dace?"

"On his way"

At that very moment, the sound of a power bike could be heard, my eyes darted as the black power bike came into view and parked just to our left. I stood watching as the helmet came off and was met with another angelic handsomeness. I wasn’t sure I could ever get used to this or how his hair always seemed to bounce whenever he ran his fingers through it.

He climbed off his bike and the moment our gaze locked on each other, I noticed his Adam apple going up and down.

"Emma"

"H-hey"

"Your cute little human is staying," Emilia mused.

And Dace’s dangerous eyes flashed at her.

"C-C-Can we talk?"

His eyes were back to me.

The bells rang once again, I knew the third or fourth would mean we were super late for class but that was not the important factor right now. I hadn’t realized Emilia and Lucas were gone until Dace stalked towards me with a puzzled look.

"You shouldn’t be here Emma," he said to me softly, and once again his words affected me in sinful ways, I licked my lips.

"I chose to stay"

He opened his mouth to speak but I was fast this time.

"It’s what I want"
