Chapter 517: You Were Always Alone
Chapter 517: You Were Always Alone
"I-I didn’t go alone" My mouth automatically moved, I feared for the people he intended to blind when he got down to business. He said nothing, waiting for me to continue and so I did. "I’m serious I didn’t, I can’t go to a party alone"
He knew me too well for that.
"Go on"
I gulped. "The party went as usual as any would, at least what I heard about it. There was a lot of dancing..." I leveled my eyes. "Drinking..." I add licking my lips. I suddenly felt like a kid under the watchful eyes of a parent. "It just went on and on and then..." I raised my gaze and I’m certain he could tell that was the only thing I remembered.
"Who did you go with?"
"My roommate Tessa"
He narrowed his eyes, nodding. "I know you can’t lie to me, baby girl"
"I’m not," I said softly.
He leaned away and I missed the closeness but I kept a brave face not to show it. "Samuel told me you went to this party alone"
"I didn’t!"
"And the only roommate I know you have is, Wendy, I know more about her than you"
"W..what are you talking about? Yes, Wendy is my roommate but she’s not the only one. There’s Tessa, she’s the one who convinced me to go to the party and she’s the one who drove me back to the dorm"
"Samuel drove you back and according to his information, he found you passed out"
I opened my mouth but I couldn’t form words.
"That idiot will have his head off his shoulders, he had one fucking job" As he spoke he walked and I panicked. The bloodlust was not hard to miss, I had a feeling the moment he set his eyes on Samuel he would kill the guy.
"Wait!" I grabbed his arm with both hands because I couldn’t with just one. This was the first contact we had in a year and the moment I did, I felt the surge of our bond, blazing through me like a storm and my insides turned to heat.
Slowly he turned to me, his unreadable gaze on me before darting to where our skin touched. Like I have done something wrong I took my hand away. "Sorry," I murmured.
"Why are you apologizing?"
I dragged my gaze back to him completely ignoring his question as I said. "Something is wrong" I began. "Samuel might not know it and I might not. But believe me when I say I did not go to that party alone. There’s no need to spill blood carelessly"
I spent a week with Tessa, ate with her too, and talked with her most of the time, whatever was going on did not make sense. "I need to go back to the dorm"
"Then let’s go"
I snapped my eyes back to him. It’s at the tip of my tongue to speak but I said nothing. I nodded, slowly walking past him, I felt his eyes on me all through. The rain had stopped but the skies remained dull like a warning for more. I tried to steady myself as I walked back to my car. Samuel stood there waiting for us.
"I’m in trouble ain’t I," he said keeping his eyes on Dace.
"Don’t worry, Dace won’t do anything" I turned to the man behind me who made me look like a toothpick. "Right?"
"For now," he said, sticking out his palm and I handed over my car keys.
"I’m sorry," Samuel said when Dace stepped into the car. "I didn’t serve you right"
"It’s not your fault" I assured him. Up until now, I didn’t realize anyone was watching me, and that Singe had a brother. The least I could do was make sure Dace didn’t kill him. With his wandering eyes, I could tell he was scared shitless.
"Can I ask a question?"
"Yeah anything"
"You have watched me since the moment I came to JU"
He nodded.
"Did you see a girl around me?"
He shrugged. "You were always alone, I felt sad for you and wanted to come to sit with you and talk but Alpha warned me not to make contact"
Okay and ouch?
"So the party, I was alone too? You’re the one who drove me back to the dorm?"
"Yeah, I did. Followed Alpha’s instruction to keep an aspirin for your headache and drew your bath"
I felt a warm sensation because of Dace’s instruction and was more disturbed realizing that none of those was Tessa’s doing.
"Okay," I said with a nod not getting freaked out, instead I felt the urge to find whatever the fuck was going on. "I’ll see you around," I said with a soft smile walking to my car and getting in.
Dace wasted no time in starting the car and drove away. The drive back to my dorm was an awkward silence. I kept sneaking peeks at Dace and he just kept his eyes on the road like a fucking robot.
Having enough, I cleared my throat. "You’re supposed to be out of the country"
"So?"
I rolled my eyes. "Why did you come back?"
"You grabbed my attention"
"So last year was not enough to grab your attention?"
"No"
I felt a sting in my chest and I regretted bringing this up in the first place. "Good, then we get to the bottom of this and you can take your plane back to your business," I said, turning to him.
"That’s plan, baby"
Ugh!
Thank god the car stopped and I was the first to get out not wanting to be in the same space with him. He can go back for all I care and I don’t fucking give a shit. I pray he rots wherever he prefers.
I slowed down my steps when I found someone in front of my door who didn’t look like Wendy.
"Tessa"
The golden blonde hair gave it away but when she turned my smile faded. It was a woman who looked to be in her late forties. "I’m sorry, I forgot the keycard," she said, a soft smile on her lips but it was hard to miss the sad look in her eyes and the bags under them like she haven’t slept for days.
"Do you live here?" she asked, but as her gaze shifted behind me, her eyes widened with fear. Dace stood there, and from the way her expression faltered, I could tell his presence unnerved her, his imposing figure was clearly intimidating
Anyone who saw him would feel the same. He didn’t look like your average man—his height, tattoos and defined lean muscles commanded attention and respect with just a glance. And now, with the addition of light stubble, I could only imagine the effect, making him even more impressive.
"Um" she made a sound lost for words, her head tilting backward to keep her gaze but did a bad job at it because her gaze wavered at the last minute.
"This is my dorm," I said, trying to pull her attention back to me. It worked—her posture eased, and she seemed more relaxed now. "Who are you?"
