Chapter 486: Erased Existence
Chapter 486: Erased Existence
I grabbed the doorknob and opened the door, stepping into the room. My eyes took in the space, there was no trace of warmth as I remembered, it was so cold, empty, and uninviting. But I could see how everything was once positioned—the bed, rug, fairy lights, nightstand, table, and chair.
And lastly, there was no way I would forget the dreamcatcher that hung on the window and the noise that came with it each time it dangled from the strong wind.
"Um Vanessa, why are there dream-catcher things on every window?" 16-year-old me asked curiosity, eyeing the weird-looking thing, it was everywhere in the house, why did it have to be in my room?
"Oh that is not a dream-catcher even though it looks like one," she said amused, I turned to her confused.
"Well then what is it?" I urged.
"Rule number one"
I pinched the bridge of my nose "What? There are rules now?" I half expected there wouldn’t be any, but I was wrong.
"It’s just a simple one," she shrugged. "Never take off what’s on the window,"
Okay, I am now curious and one thing about me is that I get a strange bold behavior whenever I’m curious about anything. "Why?" I asked folding my arms.
"Well let’s just say it keeps things unwanted out"
I adjusted my round glasses. "What do you mean like a ghost?" I huffed.
"No, something way scarier," she said in a strong tone, my smile faded. She laughed, it was awkward, and I remained still not joining in her amusement.
I smiled at the memory, it’s funny how I didn’t heed that rule. I guess I was a rebellious teen after all. All it took was taking it off and inviting an unwanted person.
"It feels like a fever dream, thinking about it now..." Vanessa said behind me. "It’s some strong magic. For five years this space has always been empty not a single thing was here all gone"
"It was like I was erased from your existence," I said with narrowed eyes, Vanessa is right this is some strong magic, capable of altering one existence. This blessing of Cassius Morelock was so powerful and it took a banshee to break it. The question is... how did he find someone capable of conjuring such a spell?
Everything about Grayson and I was erased out of existence, not just from their memories but in reality.
"Emma"
I turned to my Vanessa and a smile found my lips.
"I’m sorry"
I shook my head slowly. "It wasn’t your fault, you and Mom need to stop apologizing. It’s all the past now and all that matters is that I’m here now. With you guys"
She smiled, it was warm and inviting just like I remembered. "You have grown so much, it’s hard to believe it"
"I grew too fast," I said in a sad tone.
"That’s not true" she closed the distance between us. "It’s possible, you know"
"Possible for what?" I asked, confused. Her eyes lit up instantly and I knew an idea or a thought was brewing. She was practically jumpy as she voiced her thoughts.
"To fill in those five years gaps,"
I was about to speak but she cut in more excited than ever.
"I mean you could try college"
"College? I didn’t even finish high school" I stared at her with widened eyes.
"Oh don’t worry about that, I know two or three people, you could take an exam and set your place. I mean what’s the worst thing that could happen?"
"I-I don’t know, Vanessa"
"Just think about it okay? I’m on your side with whatever you want to" She rubbed my arms before leaving me alone to my thoughts.
What she said was very tempting but I’m not motivated about something like that. I mean it’s always been my dream to attend college and study my dream course. But all these are meant for someone normal. I’m not normal, my life has made a turn I can’t retake. Maybe there might have been a time when I would leap at the first thought of this but now I’m just straight confused.
I sighed running my hand through my hair before looking at the window. I walked closer watching as the curtains danced and then my eyes caught something and I was forced to part the curtains to get a better view.
My blood ran cold when I locked my gaze with ruby eyes. A smirk found his pale lips as he observed me, the strong wind taking his ginger hair in waves. Slowly he raised a finger to his lips and I knew what he meant.
I opened the window and jumped out of it, walking past the bush and over the road to him under the cover of trees.
"W-What are you doing here, Luther?!" I demanded attempting to sound strong but mentally cursed at my shaky voice instead.
"I believe my instruction was clear,"
"Walking out the front door to meet a stranger in black would have caused more suspicion" I countered.
"Good girl" he mused deeply and I gulped hard to get rid of the hot chill passing through my spine.
"What do you want?" my voice was barely audible because I was caught between fear and panic. "You gave me away, remember?"
Slowly he tilted his head to the side. "Did I?" he grinned wider. "As per the Alpha’s request, I had to. You didn’t seem very pleased then but now..." his hot gaze swept through me and I felt like I was being undressed and my soul up for his hunger. "...you reek of him" There was a look in his eyes I couldn’t explain, it was dark and twisted but flicked away when they moved behind me, and as usual that crooked amusement of his came up.
His eyes moved behind. "How does it feel to be with your family again? You were tormented about not being part of their life anymore. I’m sure Dace will be happy for you" he pinned his eyes on me again. He could easily see through me and guess the situation. I pondered if I was too transparent or if he was just a god when it came to reading people. We were once connected, a part of my soul, he was once my sire.
I want to resist him but I can’t. I just stood like a mannequin as he ate the space between us and left me suffocating.
