Chapter 386: Run

EMMA

~

EARLIER

I created the illusion that I was asleep, as I got ready to get the fuck out of this mansion before my mask fail me.

It almost cracked right there in that room, he was getting to my head with little effort, the teen me would have melted in his gaze right there and let him in... but not this current me.

I fixed my sneakers for a quick run, wearing a pair of jeans and a black hoodie pulling it up to cover my hair, I was in all black so this would help me hide in plain sight. I told Tiger to leave before me, having him close would let his scent linger too much and they would know I hadn’t been alone.

Me? I can erase my scent entirely so even as I sneak out the window I have little to worry about. Tiger was able to tell me how the guards rotate, so I knew when their entire attention wasn’t at my window, there’s always a flaw in every guard post and I was using it to make my escape.

I drew sharply on my breath as I leaned against the wall, staring down at the long way down.

Deep breaths Emma, deep breaths. The earlier you get out of here the better, my escape was the only ticket to avoiding a senseless war.

I won’t give Dace what he wants.

I mumbled a weak spell that would help shield me so I wouldn’t break my fall, and more importantly, erase my entire presence. I don’t know how long it will hold out but I just prayed long enough to get out of here.

So I jumped and my heart skipped a heart and I was finally able to release a sharp breath when my feet found the ground. I gave a sigh of relief before hiding in the bushes as the guards rotated back.

Five more minutes until there is a blind spot and I will take that chance and run like hell, far away from here, until I get to a phone booth and make a call and the rest will come through.

I’m sure Tiger must have gone back to Washington to tell them of my plan.

The five minutes were up and I wasted no time in sneaking around the places that had no light, letting my eyes scan every single place. I may not have vampire speed but I’m swift and agile compared to how my body was years ago.

Even though I was changed to a vampire my petite stature remained and I aged, I grew like a human even though I wasn’t, I’m a hybrid so there was much that was bound to make me different, I’m a vampire but not completely and I’m a witch but not completely. I’m half of each supernatural and what only makes me exceptional is being a vortex with strong spells, the vampire part of me just fortified my body to be able to withstand any spell, I didn’t need to withstand a price any longer.

My body can handle anything... an upgrade to how my body once was.

The moment I made it into the covering of trees, I ran fast, not looking back and not stopping, I ran like I was being chased when I knew I wasn’t.

My pants got loud and my lungs burned but I could keep going, I could push my body to the limit without worrying about the consequences, but no matter how I would run out of breath, I would have to get far first.

The skies were pitch black not even the moon was up so everything was completely black but I depended on my eyes to keep me going, I could see things further and observe them well in detail and closer in a clearer version.

The cricket noises were loud and the thick waft kept coming in, it was cold but I wasn’t bothered about it.

The sudden sound of a branch snapping caused me to stop abruptly and in the process I lost my footing... before I could think twice I fell flat on my face with a hard groan.

"Fuck!" I curse sitting on my heels, and I have a cut on my hand and face but it was already closing up and healing, but that doesn’t mean the pain didn’t linger, it did and still being the weak ass for pain I winced.

I dragged my attention to my surroundings and zoomed in to where I heard the sound, there was no dangerous scent so I wasn’t that on alert but yet I took a deep sigh of relief when I realized it was just a harmless deer that got me startled.

I pushed myself back on my feet, resting my hands on my knees briefly as I tried to catch my breath. I stood fully looking around once again and making sure I wasn’t following.

"Just keep moving Emma" I mumbled to myself, taking a step forward to continue my run but I froze instantly and my eyes went wide like saucers.

No no no no!

This is not possible!

There stood Dace, arms folded watching me, in jeans and a shirt that did little to hide his ripped body, how long had he been there? When did he follow me?

"H-How" I couldn’t even finish my words as my heart beat out of my chest.

He pushed himself away from the tree he leaned on and buried his hands in his pockets, a smirk playing on his lips as he tilted his head to the side.

"Escaping me is not that easy, Countess"

Breathe Emma, breathe. I tried to calm my shaking body but it wasn’t helping. The look in his eyes was dark and controlled but I could feel it, he’s angry, and his beast... oh dear god, it’s at the surface.

"You did good outrunning my guards, I will have to give them an earful for letting you get past them easily or you’re just good at escaping"

How did he find me? I made sure I erased my scent.

I took a step back and his eyes darkened beyond control.

"I will give you a headstart"

I gulped because his voice was a mix of his beast and it caused a shiver to run through my spine.

"Don’t let me catch you" a warning in his tone and I knew I was done for.

I turned on my heels and bolted.
