BLOOD LEGACIES -
Chapter 351: Responsibilty
Chapter 351: Responsibilty
I fold the paper and shove it at the back of my shorts pocket, mentally deciding it was about time to do this. This spell will be Dace’s salvation and he wouldn’t have to worry about the rogues. The Rogues will leave Dace alone and leave Junueau too so it is a win-win situation, and maybe Dace won’t have to kill his Dad like he said.
As much as I hate that man right now I can’t let Dace be a murderer of his own father, he might not know it but it would destroy him and Emilia too.
Taking a mental note of ranting chats to finally ’do something’ I took a turn but then I heard a rustle sound. My eyes automatically skimmed through to the window and I swallowed a lump in my throat.
I must be hearing things, right? But the sound came again and I knew no doubt it wasn’t from my head. I took slow steps with caution and walked to the window and my eyes scanned the dark forest, and I heard it again as well as movement in the bushes.
Is that a Rogue? The grotesque figure told me all I needed to know and the last moment, not just one but more. They are lurking around! Did they follow us here? With the panicking question, I rushed downstairs and suddenly the wonderful scent of Dace’s cooking was lost in my senses and all I could think about was panic as I climbed down the last flight of stairs and spotted Dace in the kitchen.
He faced me the moment he heard my footsteps, a frown taking over his features when he saw my wild eyes.
"What’s wrong?"
I pointed to the window. "T-The Rogues, they are outside!"
He blinked, not once but twice. Before following the direction of my hand to the window and judging from the way his eyes gleamed I knew no doubt he zoomed in with his enhanced vision.
"They followed us, Dace"
He faced me back and shrugged. "They have been around the whole time"
Okay, what?
"W-What?"
"Calm down Emma, you’re breathing too fast" he took my arms.
"Wait you’re telling me they were here the whole time? While we were..." I couldn’t even finish as the realization struck me. "What the hell Dace!" I punched his chest which was a mistake on my part because I think my knuckles hurt like I had just punched a damn brick
"Fuck baby, do you want to hurt yourself," Dace said caressing my knuckles with his hand and I shot him a look.
"Look, it’s hard to explain but the Rogues have formed some kind of bond with me"
"What kind of bond?"
He opened his mouth but his words died in his throat, almost like he was thinking of where to start.
"Tell them to leave, we need privacy, Dace"
"That will be-"
"I-I don’t fancy fucking my boyfriend with an audience"
His teeth clenched and he gave a nod. "I’m sorry, they are just persistent, they don’t understand or remember what it feels like to be human"
I said nothing and he sighed turning his head to the window, so I guessed he mind linked them to leave.
"They listen to you"
"Yes..." he faces me back.
"H-How... I thought that there was no chance that they would"
"At first, it was a bloody battle, killed 4 of them"
Jesus.
"And then they decided to submit"
"It was a show of power," I said.
He nods, giving my knuckles a kiss. "And I won"
"Dace you-"
"You have to eat Emma before the food gets cold"
I turned to the plate of some beacon and eggs already set for me, but the appetite wasn’t there.
"Dace" I began in a serious tone. "I found a way"
He narrowed his eyes on me. "A way for what?"
"To fix your DNA, you don’t have to worry about the Rogues, they will go back once I fix it"
"What are you-"
"I found a spell from the library of the first, Dace I can help you with this... You don’t need to be scared about losing yourself or hurting me. I could sense it all through... you held back didn’t you?"
He gulped at my words.
"You’re controlling yourself because of me, hiding what you really feel"
He was calm and collected for my sake, but I could see the wildness in his eyes. It was almost like he was trying to be a different person so that he wouldn’t hurt me, and I didn’t want him to end up changing himself because of him. I agree to accept all parts of him and that is what I intend to do.
"If I do this... there is no need for any of that, the Rogues can leave and you will be free..."
"The Rogues" he began. "They have no clan, they are just werelions who lost something that makes human"
"You want to let them stay?"
"I don’t know honestly," he said leaning against the counter. "At first I was bloodthirsty to kill them because they wanted me, but the past week I spent inside their head was a different thing altogether, My dad must have done something unforgivable but I think I finally understand why my dad wanted to bring the Rogues back into the clan at all cost. I do not support everything he did but the Rogues are just people who lost their ways roaming the earth for centuries with no will or hope, just their beastly senses keeping them..."
I took in everything he said in a heartbeat. "You want to become their Alpha?"
He said nothing, keeping his eyes level.
"That is playing right into Elias’ fingers!"
"Alpha" he began standing up straight. "It’s not just a name or a title Emma, it is a responsibility"
I swallowed a lump in my chest, hugging myself. "You would choose them over me?"
"Baby," he began walking to me and I backed away on instinct.
"I came here to save you, Dace, I’m scared that you will lose yourself one day, and yet to want that? Isn’t it the same as letting yourself get destroyed for their sake?"
"I’m still here ain’t I?"
I shook my head. "Not the real you... your eyes, they haven’t gone back to their hazels, will they ever?"
Maybe I’m losing Dace after all...
