Chapter 345: Risky Plan

EMMA

~

I was really glad Owen decided to help me, in spite of not explaining everything to him, I could tell he was angry because of what I did and I knew he should be. But still, he was helping me decode the spell. The spell’s language was written far back so the words it contained were too ancient, out of everyone in Night School, Owen was one of the best when it comes to decoding spells like this, especially when it belonged to the Firsts.

Most of the time I was lost as his hands rapidly moved on the papers, I wish I understood what he was doing but I couldn’t keep up, my eyelids were growing heavy right now, I haven’t gotten much sleep and I knew it was only neutral. I feel tired. I just allowed the sounds of Owen’s writing to consume me, the sound of the pen against the smooth paper, and before I knew it, darkness took me.

"Emma"

"Emma"

"Emma"

"Emma!"

"Hmm?" I groaned, forcing my eyes open and at first, it was blurry.

"You good? You have been asleep for hours"

"Really?" I said yawning, sitting up, and stretching.

"I’m done"

My eyes instantly opened wide. "What? Already?"

He shrugged.

"It’s an ancient spell, I thought it would take you weeks to finish"

He gave me a small smile. "And you planned to stay here for weeks?" he rolled his eyes. "You know how good I am with this... it wasn’t much" he adds giving me the paper.

It was a full page. "It’s pretty long compared to the ones I saw in the Grimoire"

"Spells written in olden languages are short but when translated becomes longer"

"I guess that makes sense"

"I think this spell is even dated way back... to the time of the sorceresses from the other realms and stuff, you know back then there were like only ladies witches"

I narrowed my eyes. "You don’t believe there are other Realms, do you? I mean there is only earth"

"True," he said with a thinking face and I just admired his side profile. "But according to the records, there are others, but I guess we can’t tell here now, history is a long-dated stuff"

I smiled. "Thank you, Owen, I truly appreciate this"

There was a pause from him and then he opened his mouth but no words came from him. I knew he still wanted to ask more questions but I wasn’t so sure I could give him many answers. I can’t risk telling him what Dace’s dad did, being responsible for the vampire attack, if my clan finds out then it was another reason for another dispute, I knew Dace will somehow handle it after we settle this issue with the Rogues.

"So how are you gonna get to him?"

"Well um... according to Emilia... he’s in the deepest parts of the forest"

Owen frowned. "And you’re just gonna walk into a forest filled with Rogues?!"

"That was the plan", Saying that out loud now really sounded stupid.

"A stupid one, was your brain fried or something?"

"Hey! You have been talking to me rudely"

"Yes because I’m pissed at you, you’re making poor decisions," he said, getting up from the seat and walking to his wardrobe which was a spilling mess, and with one swift action, he took off his shirt.

A blush crept on my cheeks. "Whoa, Owen! What are you doing?!"

"I can’t have you going alone, why isn’t Grayson going with you?"

Because I didn’t tell him I would go off on my own, I didn’t want him to leave Emilia alone, I knew he would do that without a second thought.

"Judging from your silence I guess you didn’t tell him," Owen said and then a sigh came from him next as he put on his gray long-sleeve shirt and then a checker long sleeve on top, followed by a black jacket.

He faced me when he was done. "So I’m coming with you"

"Owen" I began but he didn’t let me.

"I go or I won’t let you leave this room"

My words hung in my throat and judging from the gravity in his tone I knew he wasn’t kidding. I just bit my bottom lip in response.

We took his car instead, at least it was better than taking Vanessa’s, we don’t want to be strangled at this time of the night.

"It’s the fucking full moon, it just keeps getting worse" Owen mumbled taking a turn on the road.

’The fulls moons are the worse for my mom, she says all kinds of strange things happen in the hospital at that time"

"Definitely, spirits are much stronger then, and most supernaturals, even us"

"Really?"

"Just a little boost to our magic that’s all, but it weighs more on the werelions and other shapeshifters"

I gulped. So we are headed to a full-on power Rogues, Yeah he’s right, this is way worse.

"When we get there, how do we intend to find him?"

"I will... feel him"

"Seriously, Emma?"

"My body gets all tingly when I feel he’s close" I shrugged.

"Well you better get your tingles early because soon we will be out of roads to cross and we will be on foot"

"But closer to the center right?"

"I guess so... humans don’t come here, the werelions use it to hunt sometimes, and other times it’s just a danger zone even for tourists"

I sighed shakily, turning my eyes to the fast passing of the trees, and then suddenly my phone vibrated. I slid it out of my pocket and I saw a message from Grayson and calls from Hayden, I purposely kept my phone on silent and I had no intention of replying.

Not until I found Dace that is...

I subconsciously tightened my grip on the paper, I was already halfway memorizing it and I was almost done. I don’t even know what it says, even though Owen translated it I was still having a hard time understanding it, but I knew no doubt the reason lies with it being ancient.

The car came to a sudden stop.

"It’s on foot from here on. Ready?"

I nodded observing as he turned on his flashlight but then instantly I felt tingles around my body. I gasped turning to the window as my heart beat sped up.

Dace is close.
