Chapter 343: Risking It All

EMMA

~

I drove my aunt’s dying car. I wasn’t really a good driver but I made it work I guess. I can’t have Grayson following me around, he has to watch over Emilia, and even though she doesn’t say it I knew she needed him right now the most... her hazels were practically screaming that. But was it a good idea to leave those two alone? I mean...

It was either they hate each other or can’t wait to rip each other’s clothes off, I can’t tell what those two were thinking, they were just too confusing. Maybe it was a good thing to leave them alone, I just hope they resolve whatever was going on and besides life is too short, we got Rogues at unknown locations so the whole of Juneau was practically in danger, and it was all thanks to Dace we’re still alive at this point.

I just hope he’s okay.

My mind has been racing in marbles lately, and I can’t close my eyes to get some sleep, just a little short eye will cause me to imagine things I don’t want, Dace’s possible dead body lying somewhere or what more... the picture of my own death, I haven’t still forgotten what Hayden told me, they rang like bells in my brain, but I’m too preoccupied to think about it.

All that was in my head was the goal to save Dace and nothing else matters... I guess not even my own death. I must be stupid, I guess I have been acting pretty stupid lately when I decided not to let the Clan know about the Rogues, I’m playing with fire.

I parked the car just close to the building and it made a really loud annoying noise. Just hearing it got me aggravated because I knew what it took before I could get this car from Vanessa. Sighing I got out of the car and slammed the door shut but the damn thing refused to close.

I growled, getting frustrated as I jammed it multiple times while cursing under my breath, god I really need this, it was seriously easing the tension weighing on me, like tons of bricks... maybe I should consider punching something to get off the steam.

Maybe then the mountain on my head will finally fall off.

"Hey hey, easy!" an amused voice came in as well as a chuckle.

I ran my hand through my strawberry blond and turned to Owen walking towards me with a smile on his lips.

"Hit it any further and this car will collapse" he muses.

I huffed. "At least it will motivate Vanessa to finally let it go, it’s beyond saving"

He chortled again and helped me with the door, with a single slam, the traitor of a door finally responded. "You raise and slam that’s how it works"

"You know more about this car than me"

He shrugged. "Seen her with it for years, you should have seen it back in the day, it was quite a scrap of metal"

"Definitely not anymore" I mumbled as we walked towards his house.

"In case you’re uncomfortable my dad isn’t at home, he’s been busy in the office"

Good because I didn’t want to cross paths with Oliver right now. "Great"

We walked in silence to his home and upstairs to his room, it was deja vu again, but I pushed off the incoming memories and sat on his bed.

"I need help with this," I said, pulling out the Grimoire from my bag and Owen eyed the old book as he sat before me.

"The Grimoire of Rewrites? I have heard about it, you found it at the Library of the Firsts?"

I nodded.

"Sweet, it has crazy spells inside, so what spell do you need help with?"

In silence I took the book from him and opened a particular page before facing it towards him. He froze and blinked not once but twice.

"Why this?"

I gulped. "Can you just help me without asking?"

"Emma, is everything okay?"

I shook my head.

"Tell me what’s wrong, look I know you don’t trust me that much"

"I do trust you"

"But not enough right?’"

I opened my mouth but no words came off me.

"Look... I’m not pressuring you and I understand. You don’t wanna tell me but I can feel something weighing on your mind, is it about Dace?"

"At least you didn’t call him a beast," I said in an attempt to joke and he frowned with a shrug.

"Just trying to be nice"

"Right..."

"Is it about him though?"

I hesitated before nodding, biting my bottom lip. "It’s his DNA Owen, I need help with it"

"To get rid of the beastly genes"

"Owen!"

"Alright alright, I’m listening"

"Something is wrong with it that’s all"

"I’m gonna need more than that Emma, I can’t help you if I don’t know what I’m helping you with, it will make things difficult and I know you came to me because you trust me enough to unlock this spell right?" he said with pleading eyes and I saw how sincere he looked.

I nodded, biting my bottom lips as my nerves spiked, everything he said was right, I was taking this path so I might just as well go through with it.

"Something happened with his DNA and now he’s attracting Rogues to him" I began.

There was an intense silence with Owen staring at me like I had two heads but either way, I continued.

"I have to find a way to rewrite his DNA and make the Rogues go away"

"Whoa whoa whoa! Are you saying there are rogues here in Juneau?!"

"Yes?"

"How the fuck did they cross the barrier?!" he shot up to his feet instantly with a frown, narrowing his eyes at me.

"Owen calm down please"

"How long was this?"

"Owen"

"How long Emma?!"

"Two weeks ago"

"And you didn’t bother to let your clan know? You would risk it all for him?!"
