Chapter 328: A Little Air Wouldn’t Hurt

With our hands tightly clasped together, Dace led me out of his room and then away from the mansion to a secluded patio just at the compound, where the garden was. From this space, I could see how the lights were bright in spite of the night skies, it seemed like the star of the place. The closer we got the closer I could see how the fairy lights adored the top giving it a surreal view, it was sensational and caught my entire attention.

"Fairy lights"

"Your fav," Dace said, winking at me as he held my hand tighter.

Confused and stunned, we came closer and it looked all laid out, there were two sets of white chairs and a table but at the center was a well-arranged platform covered on white sheets and then two pillows, at the side was a wine inside a basket I was certain that held treats, and red roses decorated around it, there were even rose petals laid out on the floor. Seeing all this was something out of a romantic movie and then it dawned on me and I turned my broad eyes to him.

"You planned this" It wasn’t a question but a realization.

He made a thinking face but I knew all too well that I was right, my heart fluttered and I blinked away the tears that were suddenly threatening to spill from my eyes.

"I know I’m not the best boyfriend... I ignored you for a whole week" he sounded regretful but that was the least of my worries.

"It’s not your fault" I mumbled and he pulled me close and placed a hand beneath my chin so that I would look at him. I leaned into his touch when he used his thumb to brush off the tear rolling down my cheeks.

"It is..." he began softly. "I was too caught up with everything, after..." he sighed and it felt like he was thinking of what to say next. "After my last shift as a rogue it was a painful toll and I didn’t want to weigh it on you, it wasn’t just about the distance"

"Is everything okay?" I asked softly and he smiled up to me.

"Because you’re here and..." he turned to the view. "I believe I have a date to give to my girlfriend"

"A date?" I mused.

"Yeah, whatever the fuck humans call it but It’s not much I hope you like"

I giggled. "I love it!"

He grinned broadly showing his perfect white teeth. "Now..." he sat on the blanket and rested his head on the pillow, laying down. "Care to join me?"

With a smile still on my lips I laid down next to him and placed my head on his chest. He wrapped his strong arms around me possessively and I suddenly felt shielded from all the dangers in the world.

"This is a different kind of date"

"Yes"

I loved the way his chest vibrated as he spoke in his deep voice. "It’s the peace we both need, just you and I, no fancy stuff"

I looked up at him. "No fancy stuff" I mumbled and Dace’s hands dug in my hair and pulled me close and our lips pressed against each other, not rough, just a soft gesture.

"Let’s just forget about everything, even though it’s just for a few hours" he mumbled on my lips.

"T-Thats nice" I mused, burying my face in his neck and inhaling his scent. I just wanted this to last forever, but something bugged me so I lifted my head.

"Dace?"

"Hm?" he hummed, his eyes were closed.

"What do you mean by your time as a rogue is taking a toll on you?"

He flicked his eyes open and shifted his hazels to me, he opened his mouth to speak but words didn’t come off.

"Dace?"

"Shh," he sat up with a start, his eyes scanning the entire area and his once peaceful features suddenly hardened, a cold chill ran through me, something was definitely wrong.

"What’s wrong?"

He faces me. "Stay here," he said swiftly, getting up on his feet and turning his attention to the woods.

I sat up as my heart pounded in my chest, Dace wasn’t saying anything but I could tell something was up.

I opened my mouth.

"Emma, go inside now!" he suddenly barked.

"Da-" I couldn’t even finish and all actions were halted as suddenly something black leaped out of hiding and launched at Dace.

"DACE!" I screamed, one minute Dace was standing before me, and the next he was beneath some beast, and its paws pressed him to the ground.

Paws?

I took my time to study the sudden intruder and I gasped, the mane, the were-like position, the growls, it was a werelion but a black color, I remember when Emilia told me... ’blacks are rogue’.

"Get away from him!" I yelled and conjured a spell in my head to push the beast off Dace.

I felt it, I felt my magic move and did what it was meant to, but to my surprise, it only took a step backward but still had its stronghold on Dace who was struggling beneath it.

How is this possible? I was certain my spell worked! I froze as the horror overcame me, most especially as the beast turned its dark golden gaze to me.

My spell didn’t affect it!

"Emma!"

Dace’s voice brought me back but it was too late... It was already launching after me with terrifying roars, I stood frozen in a spot, my chest rising and falling like I was having a panic attack, and just when I thought the beast would bite my head off a gunshot came and it ceased its actions.

More came through and before I knew it before my eyes, it was getting shot multiple times with blood spilling as bullets dug in, but suddenly the gunshot was eased with nothing but two clicks.

"Shit!"

I turned and found Grayson who I assumed fired the shot but it seemed like he was empty.

It roared at Grayson and Emilia stepped in front of him, judging by her fast breathing I knew she was about to shift.

But in a flash, another beast bounced on the rogue, one I recognized all too well and one I never thought I would have to see.

Dace’s werelion form but... black, and he looked bigger than he was last time and overpowered the beast by height and power, it was like staring at a much more menacing monster.

And the rogue was all too a feeble grotesque being before him.
