Chapter 302: Disowned

Chapter 302: Disowned

The clock kept ticking to my ears and my senses, it was solely what I could hear, my eyes were fixed on the paper before me, a blank one and another filled with questions, my hand on my jaw as I scanned my eyes through it as my pen rotated between my fingers. I was physically here but I wasn’t so sure I was mentally.

The clock kept ticking and it was a constant reminder that time was almost up but I was ignorant of it.

"Alright you have 30 minutes"

I quickly sat up and started writing whatever came to my head, well mostly what I was able to salvage in my brain, let’s hope I pass and not fail and get stuck in a grade, that is not something I would want.

I turned my eyes to the rest of us. Dace, Grayson, Emilia, Owen, and Lucas. All part of the makeup Exams clearly focused on their papers, well it seemed like no one wants to repeat a grade, we were all passing through wherever we wanted it or not.

30 minutes were up and the bell rang, it was over, the last day of make-up exams, the very last exams we all missed due to the supernatural craziness and more... no reading for now, I can focus on more important things.

"Grayson!" I rushed out the door to him and he slowed down so that we would walk side by side.

"How did it go?" I cut to the chase, the past two weeks ever since what happened at Washington was nothing but suspense, emotional damage as well as emotional repair, but something as heavy as that wasn’t something that could be just fixed, it needed time.

"Well..." he made a thinking face and my heart hammered. "I’m officially disowned," he added, adjusting his school bag and stopping.

In shock, I covered my mouth with wide eyes. He gave me a soft smile. "No need to be shocked Emma, I had it coming ever since I found out about my identity"

After the truth was revealed and brought to my mom’s notice, she was heartbroken and confused and needed a week to recover from it, it wasn’t a great sight at all, she was more broken emotionally than anyone, my aunt was told and was in the same state and it was also more importantly brought to Owen’s dad notice.

Oliver, and as the Clan leader he was, he took it upon himself to make things right and confronted the Venatores and the matter turned more into a clan one, I didn’t want anyone else to know but Vanessa insisted we did so for Grayson’s right.

From a Clan issue, it turned more into something personal, Oliver really outdid himself, but I wasn’t convinced he cared he was just set on keeping Grayson to the family and I knew his ways. But said nothing, as long as he doesn’t cause any harm to Grayson.

Grayson was left to finalize the issue with his foster parents and the truth was still as heartbroken as it was. Both sides were in emotional damage but we were yet to hear the decision from the Venatores but it seemed like I did now.

His foster dad disowned him.

"I’m not a full-blooded Venatores and thus my claim as the next tribe leader was denied both by my foster dad and from my people"

"They are cruel"

He shrugged. "Those are the ways"

I huffed. "And your mom?"

"She is heartbroken but there is nothing she can do about it, now that the Venatores identify have been exposed to the other families they will either stay or leave the town"

"I guess the staying has a catch," I said, like I said before I knew Oliver’s ways.

"Stay and be at peace with the rest of the families, this town doesn’t regulate violence ever since the treaty"

"I know that, but I know the Devereaux too, they won’t want peace not after what they did to them"

"And vise versa so... the Venatores will leave the town"

I paused, mostly because of what Oliver suggested, he suggested peace. For one I thought he would use the Venatores against the Devereaux because he disliked them much, but seemed like he still upheld the treaty more than that, that was odd coming from someone like him, the same person who threatened me, I shivered at the mere thought of it.

"They already left much to my surprise"

"What?!" I shot my gaze back to him.

"My mom texted me," he said and I noticed his sad eyes.

"But..." I quivered. "They can’t just leave like that can they?"

"Finding out the Devereaux have the witch clan at their side was enough, they still hunt, and clearly here isn’t the only base for werelions, just a lost prey to them, I have lived with them all my life I know how they think," he says but I knew there was still an element of doubt but I didn’t want to question it, he has been through a lot this past few weeks.

"Where are you staying now?" I asked.

He shrugged. "I was a Venatores once, staying in the wild is my thing"

"You know you can’t do that forever you know"

He opened his mouth but words didn’t come off.

"How long will you keep avoiding her? I know its too much to accept but I know there is bound to be acceptance one point or another, I know her Grayson, she wants to see you and know you better"

"She lived most of her life thinking you’re her only daughter for years, I can’t just walk into her life like that"

"I know, but you’re her child too"

"I don’t know Emma, she needs time just like I do"

I nodded. "I understand"

He smiled and strewed my hair playfully with his hand. "Hope you wrote well? Repeating grades would be a pain, you won’t get to see your boyfriend anymore" he teased, giving me that toothy grin of his and I blushed.

I didn’t want Grayson to live like this, to him he was practically alone after his once-called family left him because of their pride and their ways. He thinks he’s alone right now but that isn’t true. I have to find a way to draw him closer rather than apart.

"How about dinner?"
