BLOOD LEGACIES
Chapter 295: The Sole Bloodline

Chapter 295: The Sole Bloodline

I couldn’t believe my ears... I was still in stupefaction after what I had just heard! Hayden didn’t quite notice because she kept talking. I was even unable to process the other things she said... I only registered my thoughts on what she said about being part of the Juneau’s.

I know without a doubt that the Juneau family was extinct by the vampires, that was what Vanessa told me, or did she lie? No, she didn’t... everyone in Juneau knew the Juneau’s were no more, the first founding families of Juneau were no more, and yet... Here she was seated before me, a Juneau in all the flesh, having no idea of the town she came from or her roots, she had no idea!

Does this mean she’s supernatural too?

"You okay?"

I blinked, bringing my heavy eyes to hers.

"What?" she mused but I could feel the curiosity hiding behind her words.

"N-Nothing," I blinked again trying to compose myself. "I was just surprised that you mention that your mom was from Juneau"

"Oh, that? Yeah I know, well my mom is not basically from Juneau more like my grandparents, she knows little just like I do, maybe that’s the reason why she probably doesn’t know much about her mother’s side of the family, I guess we just got lost along the way you know"

"I don’t think either of you got lost"

"You think so?"

"Maybe there wasn’t much family from your mom’s side that’s why," I said softly. I wasn’t so sure I was up for telling her that her family was extinct, I just went for something different. For some reason I don’t think its right to tell her, she has a life to live after having such a hurtful childhood, I wasn’t gonna ruin that for her, pulling her into the supernatural world wasn’t something I had the right to do, she has lived her life peaceful and I didn’t want that to change.

I’m speaking from experience, the supernatural wasn’t peaceful at all, she would be subjected to a lot of things, I have made peace with myself about it and I have Dace... Dace was my light in this world, the only reason I still wanna hold onto this harsh world.

"You are the living proof that your family legacy, I’m such your mom is proud of that fact, cherish it"

A smile found her lips at my words. "Thanks, Emma, that was nice to hear"

I gave a warm smile.

"So... enough with the solemn talk"

"Yeah yeah sure" I nodded and was silently glad she didn’t wanna talk about it further, it was easier this way. I sighed, grabbing the soda drink on the table and popping it open.

"So did you have fun last night? With a friend?"

The drink didn’t make my throat but I forced it and gave a hard swallow resulting in me coughing and Hayden breaking into a pearly of laughter.

I was forced to turn my wide eyes at her, completely speechless.

"Hmm judging from your expression I’m right then, then it wasn’t just a friend then huh"

"How did you..." I trailed, still trying to recover myself, but you don’t exactly do that not after what I just heard. I think my cheeks turned all shades of red right now, maybe my whole face!

She leaned toward me. "Well the voices told me"

"Voices"

She nodded. "Look I’m weird okay? Sometimes I get these whispers in my ears and then I know things, well I don’t know exactly what but just a feeling like an instinct and..." she paused and I noticed her eyes turn wistful.

"And what?" I asked gently.

"There was this time, I don’t know, I saw a man in a burger shop, I ordered my favorite and the moment I crossed paths with him I..." she paused again suddenly feeling uncomfortable.

"It’s okay if you don’t wanna talk about it" No matter how desperate I was right now and curious I wasn’t gonna pressure her because it seemed like something she didn’t wanna talk about and I understood that feeling perfectly well.

But Hayden seemed to be a girl full of surprises. She smiled and said to me amused. "Nah it’s okay, I know I can tell you anything"

Maybe she trusts people easily? Because right now it felt like she was gonna be open with me about everything, she gave me that look!

"When I walked past him... My hunches told me he was gonna die"

"Hunches?"

"That is what I call them instead of the voices so that it doesn’t sound weird"

"Oh"

She nods. "So like I said I heard and mentally laughed at myself and waved it off because my hunches aren’t always accurate you know, they just tell me what and I figure it out myself"

That was why she said I had fun with a ’friend’ and not a ’boyfriend’.

"But this time was different" her eyes grew sad and confused. "I went back to that burger shop and I didn’t see him, I noticed that because he’s a regular there just like me I needed to know why he didn’t come that day. I had to talk with the waitress just asked about the particular customer and she told me sadly that he passed on"

A cold chill ran through me.

"That was the first time my hunch was direct and actually happened, I told myself if I knew it I would have told him but come on who was gonna believe me? I was still in high school and it all, happened years ago before I joined the music industry"

"Have you had that particular voic- I mean hunch again"

"Yeah but mostly like I could feel death sometimes and the feeling of knowing things" she stated and then she giggled. "Weird right?"

"You feel so relaxed talking to me about it" I gulped.

"What do you expect, girl? I don’t have to put a meaning to it, it’s just a hunch that’s all and what happened with that man was just a coincidence. coincidence happens all the time"

"Sounds like you are trying to convince yourself that"

She shrugged. "It’s better that way," she said, rising to her feet and I followed.

"What if it’s something more?"

She sighed.

"Something more that means-"

"Something like what?" she faced me but was not amused and I realized maybe I stepped the line, maybe I got too comfortable with her.

"Something like I have some psychic powers?" she huffs and shakes her head. "No Emma, No, I’m just a normal girl who’s smart to tell something about someone that it"

"Yeah," I nodded, not continuing more on the topic.

"See you at my gig tonight okay?" she playfully punched me on my arm hoping to lighten the mood.

And I just nod with a smile. She smiled back and walked past but stopped and faced me.

"My hunches tell me you know something but don’t wanna tell me" she mused.

And I froze in place, what did she know now? Does she know I knew about her family and why they were literally extinct, if so kill me now!

"Bet its about the friend, I mean boyfriend"

I almost released a sigh of relief but I held it in so that she wouldn’t notice I was anxious.

"Tell me is he like a secret boyfriend you don’t want your mom to know about?"

"Maybe" I shrugged, tucking some hair behind my ear.

"Ah I see, your secret is safe with me" she tapped her chest and I smiled at her action watching as she walked up to her bathroom.

"Hayden we will soon be leaving," my mom said as she stepped in, I didn’t realize she left in the first place. "Mr. Barney will be here soon," she said in the background walking up to me.

"Hey," she noticed my mood. "You okay?"

"Yeah"

"Hmm, hope you are really for tonight’s party?"

"Yeah I am, the main dish"

She chuckled. "Well I hope your friend Grayson is still coming because I will be a handful and I don’t want you to be alone"

"Yeah sure, he will,"

"Great, because I trust him with you," she said with a bright smile and walked towards to grab her laptop.

Well, that was weird because I knew my mom was a hardly trusting woman, whatever Grayson pulled off got under her skin.

My phone chimed and I grabbed it on the table.

Grayson: Tonight

I quickly replied to him.

ME: Tonight

That’s right, tonight was when our main dish will be set in action when my mom won’t have much attention on me, the perfect time.

My phone vibrated again and I checked it and a smile on my lips when I saw who it was from.

DACE: We will meet at the party like planned, I want my eyes on you all through the process and if I sense anything that caused danger to you baby I will stop it.

This was the particular mantra he kept saying even last night after our heated session as he cuddled me on the bed. I knew he didn’t like what I was about to do but I was glad he understood.

ME: Yes, Tiger

I replied with a smile still resting on my lips but they vanished when a thought grabbed me. I can’t help it right now and at Impulse, I was already typing.

ME: Remember the Juneau family?
