BLOOD LEGACIES
Chapter 276: Cold And Not Completely Alone

Chapter 276: Cold And Not Completely Alone

All I could remember was Dace’s absolute warmth to my body, but all that was gone in a matter of seconds and all I could feel was nothing but the cold temperature, the blowing draft, and the chilliness that ran through me every second. His heat was gone, one that always seemed to consume me and take the cold completely away... it was now I realized how cold it was, I should be thankful that I wore extra layers of clothing.

All I did was stare at the path he blurred at and I felt nothing but lost without him. I felt sunken and bare, a part of me missing and my heart getting folded by an unexplainable pain, my mark pulsing and giving off a cold feeling and wanting to be with its owner.

Despite all this, I had to remind myself why I did it... for Emilia’s sake, for I knew Dace wanted nothing more but to be with his sister but I was getting in the way, I knew from the very beginning that he wanted to go to her... those two have a lot to settle and talk about and I only did what was right, I hope I did what was right this time because it seemed to me that I do everything wrong, I really hope this ends well...

I exhaled sharply as I shivered from the cold before resuming my walk to the nearby road. The forest was super calm now... and I no longer felt safe from anything. Dace was gone and I was left with being super cautious with my environment, my eyes scanning every area, and anxious about any slight sound that came in.

I just couldn’t wait to get on the road, I didn’t think I would be able to breathe until I did so...

*Meow*

I ceased abruptly when that sound came in, okay what was that? Was that a meowing sound?

"Keep walking Emma, keep walking" I mumbled to myself as I took a step forward.

*Meow*

I stopped again because hearing the sound coming in once again I was able to tell how low and weak it was. Unable to hold it in anymore I twirled, my eyes scanning for the direction of it. If it’s a meow sound it must be a cat right? Or something dangerous...

*Meow*

No no no that does not sound harmful, that sounded like... I rushed looking everywhere but it was so dark and I can’t see a damn thing, where could that sound be coming from?

The weak meowing sound came again and I made sure I focused on it to find the source... which I finally did and I rushed to it in a hurry, just around the cluster of bushes as I used my hand to part it, and then I saw it.

Big hazels looking back at me, so big that looked like my favorite anime eyes. The body was so small as well as the paws, covered in dirt to the point I can’t tell the color of the fur.

"Awww" my heart melted seeing this poor kitten out here in the wild, staring at me adorably with little meows escaping it. My heart broke when I noticed it shivering from the cold, sitting so quickly... This kitten was either lost in the wild or abandoned so I quickly reached for it but it wasn’t welcome for me unfortunately, it snarled and before I could pull away it bit my thumb and licked the trail of my blood on its teeth.

"OW!" I quickly redrew my hand sucking on it before it would bleed out more, it hurts so bad.

"You meanie!" I pouted and rubbed my thumb and I instantly regretted saying that when the cat purred and its ear went backward and it slouched more until its chin was resting on the paws.

"I-I’m sorry I didn’t mean that, you’re not a meanie okay?"

*Meow*

It came so loud as it licked its teeth once again tilting its head further up before the rest of it and then It did something I didn’t expect mostly because it just bite me and I thought maybe the fur baby didn’t want me to touch it, I thought this might a hostile cat but I was wrong because it walked to me and settled on my leg and meowing more.

"O-Okay, you like me now" I mumbled as it smuggled more into my body still shivering and I was forced to carry it gently and tucked the cat in my coat, it rested there with its head shot out while purring.

Geez and here I thought only Dace’s actions would make me melt but I was wrong, this cat has utterly taken my heart, and I thought there was only one space for Dace, I was wrong! Because the moment Laid eyes on this fur baby my feelings turned on me.

"Let’s get you out of here," I said softly with a smile, carefully rising to my feet and holding onto my jacket so that it wouldn’t fall.

I was finally able to walk through the forest with relief because of the little company I had, it was also a relief when I was finally off the road and walked through the streets filled with houses. Just three turns on a few blocks I was on my street.

Seeing my house right now I just realized how much I missed it, I haven’t seen this place for months or so, and being here right now caused a smile to be on my lips, as well as the memories of this place coming here.

I stood at the door ignorant to knock, I was super nervous now. A soft meow came and I leveled my eyes at the half-opened-eyed cat tucked in my coat.

"I know they will be super angry at me, I’m scared because I know how hurt they must be because of my actions," I said like the cat would even understand me, it only just looked at me with those hazels that reminded me of Dace.

"Let’s do this," I said, having some encouragement as I slightly knocked on the door, but there was no immediate answer, maybe they aren’t here? Or are they at the covenstead? But the lights were on so maybe my mom was here.

"I will get it"

I froze when I heard the deep voice, wait is that...

The door opened and I met with maroon eyes and a familiar tan-skinned guy.

"O-Owen," I said with wide eyes.

His eyes were wider than mine, they were in total shock. "E-Emma" I hardly hear Owen stammer but right now he did and the swell of emotions in his eyes was enough to tell me how worried and lost he must have been, even his voice trembled as well as his eyes.

He parted his lips to say something but nothing came off, he was just in too much shock and relief

"Owen" I began but he didn’t let me finish as he took a step forward and hug me tightly like I just came back from the dead. In spite of his affection which I completely understand, I can’t stay this long because of the fur baby in my coat so I pulled away.

"T-There’s a cat on me"

"What?" he said, completely dumbfounded and I had to show him what I meant and leveled his eyes at the cat poking its head out of it.

"Oh" he only made a sound.

"Owen, who’s that?"

"Mom" I couldn’t stop myself because I would recognize that voice from anywhere.

Owen gave way because his frame covered the door, and I was finally able to set my eyes on my mom. She stood frozen when she saw me and she covered her mouth as tears burst out of her eyes. I couldn’t help myself either as tears welled up in my eyes.

She walked to me in a heartbeat and rested her hand on my shoulder giving them a gentle squeeze mostly to tell herself that I was actually standing before her.

Her teary green eyes were fixed on me. "Do you have any idea how worried I was?!" she began as we exploded in her emotions, this was always how my mom responded to these situations, she scolds and comforts you at the same time and all I just had to do was listen, for I missed her voice and her scolding attitude and I wasn’t fazed by it.

"You were in a coma and next you woke and just disappeared. I panicked Emma, you scared the shit outta me, you were gone for a week and we have searched the whole town for you, you may be a half-witch or whatever but you don’t do that to your mother!"

"W-What?" I was stunned. Her scolding did not affect but did she just call me a half-witch? How the heck does she know? I turned my eyes to Owen nonverbally demanding an explanation.

"There is no need to look at him"

I brought my eyes back to my mom with perplexity.

"I know about everything, Emma"
