BLOOD LEGACIES
Chapter 247: His Prey {1}

Chapter 247: His Prey {1}

A boisterous growl spewed and all that was left of the atmosphere was chilly with a mix of heat, or maybe it was our bodies still trying to convalesce from the jumbled sound we just heard, for it shook even the trees and the snow fell from them and then ripples from the sudden breeze that shrouded the entire area. The ground quaked like an earthquake was about to happen but we both knew this was no quake. This was from the very animalistic werelion that stood a distance away from us.

"Stay close to me, Emma," Grayson said. We stayed still for god knows how long and I found it harder to breathe. This wasn’t just the fear kicking in, this was something different, darker, and suffocating to even breathe, it made my very body shiver and the cold long forgotten. It was like this werelion made us know just how much we were his prey, and the mere ambiance that emitted off it was enough to make someone fall to the ground and allow death to eradicate the very mind...

So I did... My knees found the snow and I drew on my breath because it was getting harder and harder to breathe or keep up with my senses because they were getting dim. I don’t think I can take any action because I was just too paralyzed.

I noticed Grayson floundering to stay on his feet but it was taking a toll on him and I noticed his hand holding his crossbow was quivering and it seemed it would fall off his grip because he can’t hold it steady. Just what is that werelion? I mean I have seen Dace’s werelion form before and I admit the height and features scared me the first time but I used to it, I didn’t see Dace as a terrifying monster anymore but rather his beast form sort of soothed me but this before us was a werelion but god knows this could be mistaken for the devil itself.

My voice in my head was loud and telling me if we don’t get out of here now what will be left of us will be nothing but pieces, I think we can’t even move an inch from where we were because I knew, just a slight movement and it will be over for us.

"I-It’s the same werelion" I faced Grayson at his convulsive words."The same... that night"

What was he talking about? Has he countered this before? And survived? Because I was convinced right now that if he actually did he wouldn’t have survived... Was it even possible to get away from this monster right now?

"It’s much different now"

"G-Grayson"

"Emma" his voice was short and simple. "If I don’t take this down right now... we are not gonna make it" all his words kept his gaze on the werelion and not blinking even for a second.

Was he even capable of taking down this beast? Surely he was just saying that to buy time, I wasn’t so sure my magic could work on it either. This case should be different because this is a werelion, I have never encountered a shifted werelion before because I would have weighted my chances that it knows me because of my relationship with Dace, but I wasn’t so sure that was even important right now... we were in the jaws of a shark or better worse a lion’s.

I gobbled as my quivering gaze flickered back to the monster. One second look at this beast and my mark pulsed in a tight painful way that I felt I can no longer breathe and I found myself clenching on it as my lips parted and I tried to keep my voice in...because it hurts so much that I would yell in pain.

My mark is pulsing... more distressing than I have ever felt. Wait... I looked up again and then the realization struck me hard more than anything. How didn’t I notice this before? Was my mind playing tricks on me?

"Dace," I said under my breath but this can’t be right... Dace’s werelion didn’t look like this... his fur color was an orange-brown, almost like gold. But this werelion before us was a darker shade, almost completely black, the colors are drained and its eyes were a darker shade of gold. Yes the same height as Dace’s werelion or even taller but this was way more animalistic.

This can’t be Dace... I mean Dace would have recognized me right? He would have shifted back to his human form and would be happy to see me. But no, this one looks like it wants to eat us for breakfast. This was confusing and wrong in all sorts of ways, I don’t think I will survive this.

"Emma, run!"

I was snapped back to reality because I just found out the werelion had stirred in a speeding movement and Grayson was already ready to shoot his arrows at him. My instincts kicked in, my mind was still unable to recognize this werelion as Dace but my body does, and then my very senses. I rose to my feet and shouted.

"DON’T SHOOT! IT’S DACE!"

"What?!" he faced me and that was a mistake and mine too.

With a plunge of his hand like he was some insignificant threat... Grayson was sent flying and hitting the trees, and I heard a snap, oh my god was that his neck?!

I was unable to detail my mind as Dace pounced on me and I fell to the ground, if it wasn’t for the snow I would have surely died from that fall.

He roared to my face and his sharp canines were just mere inches from biting on my face. I felt fear like a cold chill ran through my spine and my bones and body were just paralyzed as I lay on the ground with him on top of me.

It was just me and his animalistic features against my own and I saw it... I felt it... it was as broad as the sunlight itself and my body already knew it had reached its end... I would die at this very moment at his hands.
