Chapter 245: Voices {3}
Chapter 245: Voices {3}
"G-Grayson," I said, quivering.
"What are you doing here?!" He demands angrily.
That’s it... I lost my voice and freeze up where I was, the realization of how stupid I am dawning on me. What was I thinking? He definitely thought I was a creep now or worse.
"I-I" I was unable to find my voice, it felt like I was caught in a very bad act by my mom.
"How did you get in here?!" he demands again. "And what are you doing?"
"It was the voices"
"A damn voice told you to come into my parent’s room?"
"Look I can explain I..." I shut my mouth, I had no excuse, what more could I say? That voice, again? He was probably fed up with it, I would too if I were in his shoes. Great job, Emma! Sneaking in someone’s house like a creep because a voice told you so, try getting out of this one!
I noticed as his eyes leveled to the scattered documents on the floor. "What is this?" he asked in confusion. Has he never seen them before? I mean surely he wouldn’t because it was kept very secure, I had to use a spell to break through it.
"I found them in the drawer," I said faintly. "Under" making sure my point was well stated. I noticed his eyes focused on something. The Diary.
"Do you hear that?" he suddenly asked me and I glimpsed his green eyes twinkled, no one needed to tell me what that meant...
"You hear it too?" I asked with wide eyes and his gaze darted to me.
"Just now"
He can hear the voices?
"It sounds like my voice but..."
"...You’re not sure" I answered him and I noticed the anger was gone and replaced by something else, curiosity.
"It’s coming from the diary" he reached for it and grabbed it and I gulped. "You said the voice led you here?"
I nodded.
"Why would it?"
"I don’t know," I answered. "But I wanna find out"
It was nothing but the truth because after seeing all that info I was more eager to find out... what these voices wanted me to uncover... wanted us to find out. Seems like I’m not the only one hearing voices in my head.
He nodded slowly at me before taking a seat on the bed. I was dubious but I followed and sat beside him.
"It belongs to my mom"
"You were born march 27th, in the Washington hospital"
"Yeah"
I gulped. "I was born that same day at the same hospital and at the same time"
He narrowed his eyes, a mix of confusion swirling in them. He opened his mouth but words didn’t come off, I too would be shocked and confused about this weird coincidence. It was like setting a puzzle and you weren’t sure of which would fit into it but you knew that puzzle will indefinitely fit somewhere. That was the strange factor whenever I am around Grayson. A puzzle you know all too well that is part of the piece but you weren’t sure at the moment where it fits.
"I know it’s a weird coincidence, I think this might explain everything"
"Everything about what?" He mumbled.
"The strange connection... feeling whenever I’m around you, do you feel it too?"
He sighed heavily and I noticed his shoulders were tense. "Sometimes... there’s this... I don’t ease feeling around you and..." he paused. "When you were hurt and Owen had to take you, it hurt, and the..."
"The pull..." I answered him. "I think it has to do with both of us being born in the same hospital, I think this voice wants us to figure it out"
"You think so?"
"I don’t understand it either... Trust me, I want to have all the answers... but I think this diary has it. Did you know you were a still child?"
"A still child?"
Seems like he didn’t know about that either so I reached for the paper on the floor where I saw the info. I noticed as his eyes went wide when he saw it.
"My mom didn’t tell me about it. I just... I don’t know, never talked for years and they considered me mute not until I was 12 and said my first word. But this... my parents never told me I was born still"
"Maybe they had their reason" I admitted because that was the only explanation I mean why else would they keep it? Yet again I reprimand my thoughts because I knew whatever the reason it was they didn’t want Grayson to find out.
"Let’s find out," he said, opening the diary.
"I-If you wanna do this alone it’s okay"
He paused and faced me. I had a feeling there was something he would see and not like and this was his family Diary I didn’t wanna butt in more than I already have, he deserves privacy to see for himself.
"I was sneaky and I’m sorry, this has to do with your family, I shouldn’t invade any further," I said, rising to my feet but his hand on my wrist stopped me.
I darted my eyes at him and he said nothing but I could tell he didn’t want me to leave so I sat back beside him. It was funny. I could tell his silent words without him saying anything.
"You look different without your glasses" he mumbled darting his eyes back to the book and a smile found my lips. For some reason, I consider it a compliment.
"This is my mom speaking about... herself... as any diary should but it looks like she hasn’t used it for years," he said as his eyes scanned through.
He was right because the book looked all worn out and the writing was almost fading and it had that old book smell. I wondered why she stopped... the secure place I found this Diary and documents clearly shows she didn’t want anyone to find it, she must have written something here for no one to see that was the only explanation. I mean I have a diary and I kept it hidden because of how nosy my mom gets about finding out more about me.
"Look here" I pointed to a part. "I think this was after you were born," I said because of the date. So we read through...
’It was a traumatizing experience. James and I are back from the hospital. James is the happiest I have ever seen while holding our baby boy, but I couldn’t bring myself to tell him... that the baby we brought back home wasn’t ours’
I noticed Grayson’s features ran cold and his grip on the book tightened and I was afraid it would rip from just his grip. Chilly silence filled the room, the sound of my ’gulp’ echoed and I was forced to look at him once again.
"Grayson," I said to him softly but he remained quiet as his eyes scanned through the writing, he looked like he would break any second.
’On my delivery day I was alone in the hospital, James was out of the city to deal with some important stuff. He told me he was on his way as soon as possible but I was already in the delivery room. I gave birth to a still child, it was heartbreaking as I sobbed holding my cold baby, no heartbeat... nothing. I knew how much James was waiting for our baby to come to this world and how he spoke about making him his heir for that was what he has longed for-for years. Telling him that I lost the baby will destroy him, I was lost and confused and also in pain’
Grayson’s hands were trembling now and it was much harder to read seeing him like this. I felt like my heart was being ripped apart.
’And then a miracle happened, the doctor told me there was a way after seeing my pain, I was skeptical at first but he only meant good. He brought me the most handsome baby boy I have ever seen and from the moment I laid my eyes on him I felt like I was blessed. He told me the boy’s mother was dead in delivery, and she has no one, no relatives or a loved one, that upon her death she told him to give her baby to a well-deserving family... she begged him to...’
’It was too good to be true so I requested to see her body and I did. It was so heartbreaking so I offered to adopt him and love him as my own. But I couldn’t tell James because the moment he set his eyes on him, I saw joy more than anything I have ever seen and I didn’t want that to go away... I didn’t want that happiness to go away when he found out he wasn’t his. So I chose to keep it a secret and we have both loved my little Grayson unconditionally and I will continue to do so. I love you Grayson more than anything...’
