Chapter 228: Nothing To be Done

EMILIA

~

"They didn’t let him see her?" My mom said in incredulity and I only just nodded.

"Where is your brother?" my dad asked, seated next to the fireplace.

"I lost track of him and he shut me out," I said biting my bottom lip, even though it was always so loud reading many thoughts, I hated it the most when he shuts me out, I want to be there for him but he didn’t let me and it hurts knowing I can’t do anything. The only thing I CAN do was tell my parents about it.

"He’s drowning Elias, we both know what toll it will take on him if he doesn’t see her," she said desperately to my dad, hoping he would do something. I hoped he could do something too because I didn’t like this at all. I knew Vanessa was angry and emotional right now... but this was just too much, too much for even my brother to bear. I didn’t know what it meant to have a female or male but I knew the distance was enough to drive him insane and what’s worse she was in a critical condition and yet he couldn’t see her.

I don’t have a flick of how he felt but I knew it hurts. I knew how downhearted my mom was whenever my dad had to travel for business, I knew that firsthand while growing up, the bond was too deep and yet so powerful. Sometimes I tell myself that I don’t need a Male because I don’t wanna experience that type of pain

"Elias"

"Our cub is bonded to an outcast"

"Is that really what your thoughts should be right now?"

"I’m saying this for you to get the bigger picture" he faces hers. "Do not look at me like that Camille... for I understand the pain he’s going through. I don’t know what I would do if I were deprived of seeing you" he added sincerely.

"Let us do something then, let us spare our boy this pain"

I noticed his grip tightened on the armchair as he faced the dancing flames. "It was somewhat a relief to have him find his female but also a problem. This is the problem"

"We can’t do anything, can we," I said. Because I knew just exactly where he was going with this... Emma’s relationship with Dace was a complicated one in the first place. They found each other and none of them had a flick that they were destined to be, later on, she bore his mark which is yet a mystery because at first glance a werelion should know his Female, but Dace didn’t not until the mark was present, but the bond still remained. What made it more complicated was... Emma’s not a Werelion, she’s torn between two clans and that is a problem.

Dace doesn’t recognize it but I do, we all do. Maybe he does see it but chooses to ignore it, he has always been choosing Emma since the moment he laid his eyes on her.

"As long as they keep her in that house... there is nothing we can do. We can’t exactly start a war, it defiles many things"

"Emma might be fighting for her life, she might be dying, and yet he can’t even see her? We better demand an audience with Oliver"

"That fool won’t move an inch, he’s much as displeased Emma chose a part of us, he would rather see this as a greater opportunity to keep her with his clan. This Vanessa is acting solely on the love she has for her niece, her actions will be unpredictable just like she had done now"

"What should we do then?" my mom demands.

"For now there is nothing... we’re at a tight position here with the return of the Venatores which we must now keep away from the rest of the families and deal with it" he was up on his feet. "They once sorted witches to enhance their bodies in the old times, The Shermans are not their enemies we’re the only ones in a pinch here, we cannot let them know of these annoying foes who think they can erase us"

I gulped at his words.

"Or else we won’t only worry about Alexander’s female but an upfront oppression from two different sides"

"What happens to Dace then?" I asked and he faced me, he walked to me and placed a hand on my cheek.

"He bears... and we pray Emma survives this, for an opposition won’t help us"

~

"Is there really nothing we can do, mom?"

She took my hand giving it a gentle squeeze and forced a smile.

"Your brother is in a tight spot" she nods. "You have to be there for him"

I moved my hand away from her hold. "He doesn’t need me mom or any of us, what he needs is Emma" I shook my head. "This is so messed up"

"It is... and I’m worried about him, he’s still young and to bear this is..." she sighed heavily.

"And yet Dad wants him to bear"

"Your father is right Emilia, everything he said is true... opposition or war won’t help us, we have to pray that Emma gets better"

"Will she?" I said. "We don’t even know her condition" I rose to my feet folding my arms. "I may not understand a mate’s bond but I understand my brother’s pain. I have to find a way" I faced her. "...To take Emma"

"Do you understand what you speak of?"

"I cannot watch Dace suffer in unspeakable pain because of her aunt’s selfish decision!"

"Alexandra!" she barked at me as she rose to her feet abruptly.

But I didn’t wait for her to speak as I spun on my heels and attempted to walk out of the room.

"Do not do anything that would taint your father’s name or his decisions. I understand Dace because I have a Male. It is sickening!"

My fist clenched.

"But there is nothing we can do"
