Chapter 222: Are You One Of Them?

In the horrifying discovery of what covered the area, the Manticore leaped into the air and I was able to see its fast-paced movement solely because it was aiming at me right now.

I tilted my head up quickly and panic filled my lungs when it sprang on me but before it could get to me a dagger was thrown and embodied on the neck and pushed off the Manticore by the force, smashing it into the wall.

"EMMA!" Grayson shouted my name as he helped me up but I was still trying to recover from the shock.

"Are you alright? Did it hurt you?" he asked me desperately. That was when my frightened eyes landed on him. The lights came back up and I subconsciously held Grayson tightly, blood on the floor like paint and bodies. I turned away as a wave of nausea overwhelmed me.

"How did you do that?" A voice came and we faced Owen holding his slightly scratched arm, Sarah was beside him partly covered in blood and in shock.

Their eyes centered on Grayson... that was when I realized I wasn’t so sure I could protect him anymore.

"I-Is it dead?" Sarah walked to the Manticore.

"No! Back away I only just weakened it" Grayson barked at her and she froze up in place.

"We have to get out of here, now!" he added in a warning tone.

"Who are you?" Owen asked again. "And how did you do that?"

"Rather than ask questions shouldn’t we get out of here?" I said hoping they would just stop asking questions and think of the crucial issue here. "You’re not shocked by what he did," Owen said like a realization.

I leveled my gaze.

"Emma"

I opened my mouth but Grayson spoke. "I’m someone who can kill these beasts, is that okay?" Grayson said, ruffled and hoping to end the questions.

"Wait..."

"Is he..." Sarah trailed.

"A Venator" Owen said with widened eyes.

Then like a blur Grayson brought out a gun and pointed it at Owen. "Get behind me Emma!" he barked.

It happened so fast before my brain could register it, did he just pull out a gun?

"G-Grayson"

"The only ones who call us by that name are supernaturals," he said, cocking his gun and ready to pull the trigger.

"Grayson, wait!"

"Are you fucking serious right now?!" Owen said, taking a step closer.

"Don’t move or I will pull the trigger!" Grayson warned.

"Just stop it!" I pleaded but I wasn’t so sure Grayson would listen because I could see it in his eyes... the need to kill. And I knew he would pull the trigger so I did the unthinkable before he could attempt it.

I came in front of Owen and Sarah like a shield, and Grayson’s eyes widened.

"What are you doing?!"

"They are not beasts okay? You only hunt beasts right?"

He narrowed his eyes.

"Emma, what are you doing?" Sarah mumbled to me.

"We are not beasts!"

Grayson lowered his gun. "We?"

I guess there was no point hiding it... all hell was about to break loose already.

"Yes... we are witches and I know all about your kind, you people once use magic from our ancestors to enhance your people, we are not the enemy here, Grayson"

"You’re..." He paused. "A witch?"

*Loud Roar*

"OH MY GOD, IT’S AWAKE!" Sarah screamed. The Manticore was up on its feet.

Grayson cocked on his gun and fired on the creature like hell. I lost count of the bullet he embodied in that thing until its head was blown to bits and the monster dropped to the ground in the puddle of its own blood.

"Holy shit!" Owen exclaimed.

Grayson faced us and we tautened. "All of you..." he pointed. "...Are witches?"

"I’m a Fae" Sarah chirped in.

"What the fuck is that?"

"Look at least you have your answer" I stated as his green eyes drift to me. "We are not the beasts here"

"Why didn’t you tell me?" he sounded hurt now and I didn’t know why.

"Well because for one you’re a hunter who hunts supernaturals"

"My tribe has never touched witches or..." he looked at Sarah. "... faes. Unless they pose a threat"

"We don’t," Owen said, stepping forward. "We just live here in peace"

"This is not exactly peace is it?" he points his gun at the headless creature.

"We don’t know why they are coming... we believe there’s a summoner"

"Someone who called this creature or made a blood pact," Grayson said.

"Blood pact?" I asked because I was lost.

"Yes," Owen said, facing me. "If someone didn’t entice this monster someone must have summoned it and made a blood pact with it, it acts as a guardian to whoever calls it and it gives it what it wants"

"It can kill as much as it can" Grayson finished and I gulped.

"But who would make a blood pact with such a creature?"

"Our summoner must be close by," Grayson said, already walking to the door.

"Wait you’re not gonna go alone are you?"

He stopped at my question and faced us. "Yes of course I am... that will buy you guys enough time to get out of here"

"Look, we may not be hunters like you but we know how to fight beasts. ME actually, I have fought vampires before"

"Congratulations... but I don’t remember asking for your help"

"Guys do you hear that?" Sarah suddenly said and the whole room fell silent. That was when we heard it.

"Footsteps," Grayson said.

"How can you tell what it was?" Sarah asked puzzled.

"I have a good hearing" he only mumbled as he strode onward and we followed.

We all came to the hall, the light still flickering on and off. Grayson pointed his gun when a figure was spotted.

My heart hammered in my chest as my eyes slowly adjusted to the shaking eyes, I was half expecting to see a Manticore but not a person...

"Grayson, wait!" I held his arm before he could pull the trigger.

"It’s not a Manticore"... I turned as a girl in bare feet came into the light, and the flicking lights were steady now.

"It’s Jean"
