Chapter 206: The Company That Awaits
EMMA
~
Dace still hasn’t told me anything... I wonder why... but whatever it was I figured it was serious because Dace kept a stoic expression, only when he looked over to me did he smile. I was really anxious because not knowing about the situation kept me on the rim, I have a suspicion though... What happened that night is going to be questioned, does this mean my Clan leader is here? That can’t be good.
"Emma!" My aunt engulfed me in a tight hug before I could blink.
"V-Vanessa"
"Do you have any idea how worried I was?" she broke the hug watching me with worried eyes and yet so furious.
"I’m sorry for worrying you" I admitted because I knew what I did was wrong. I can imagine how frightened she must have been and it was all my fault.
"Don’t do that again you hear me? I have no comeback when my sis finds out you were missing!"
"I-I wasn’t missing I was with Dace"
"You were in danger!" she snapped and I jumped slightly, I could see the pain in her eyes, I really screwed it up this time. "You put yourself in danger, you got me worried sick, you left just like that in the middle of the night and got tangled with a creature that killed 4 four people!"
"It wasn’t her fault," Dace said behind me.
"And you!" she darted her eyes at him, I have never seen Vanessa like this, she looked like she would eat nails and still call it food, she looked fearless now.
"You may be her Male or whatever you fucking call it..." she pointed. "But I will not tolerate my niece being in danger, she has suffered enough ever since she met you!"
"V-Vanessa... It’s not Dace’s fault, I was the one who dragged him"
She darted her angry eyes at me, and I held her hands tightly. "Please don’t blame him please, it’s not his fault, it’s all mine" I placed my hand on my chest. "I dreamed of it and I got worried and afraid that someone would die, I dragged him alone with me and he got hurt protecting me, if it wasn’t for him my actions could have caused my death"
"Emma" Dace began but I didn’t let him.
"Blame me, not him!"
"Dream?" she said to me with puzzled eyes.
"You dreamed about it?"
At the familiar voice, I looked behind her and saw Owen’s dad, Oliver. I was so engrossed with the talk with Vanessa and all the emotions storming on all sides and not seeing the company behind. Oliver, Owen, Dace’s mom, and Emilia.
"You saw this in a dream?" Oliver repeated his question and he seemed demanding now.
I felt Dace’s hands on my waist as he hauled me to him in a swift action securing me to his side. This was not the time for this, but I wasn’t so sure that I would get through to him.
"If you’re here to talk we will talk" he began as his gaze leveled to Vanessa, I was scared now that he got angry about Vanessa’s anger so I gulped but I got the opposite of how I felt when he spoke.
"I’m sorry for worrying you, Vanessa"
"Dace," I said with wide eyes watching him, he looked apologetic.
"It is my duty and my purpose to protect Emma with my life and yet I brought her to the face of danger and-"
"At my request!" I cut him off, there was no way he’s gonna take all the blame!
"God, you two" she rubbed her forehead. "Talk to us Emma, what do you mean you dreamed of this?"
"I-I saw it..."
"Saw what?" Owen asked this time and I got nervous that everyone had their eyes on me now but I was able to keep my composure because Dace was by my side, he always seems to take all the worry and unsettled dread away.
"It was a dream but it was so real, I saw a girl, Jean, in danger and I knew something was wrong so I asked Dace to take me to school because of it"
"You should have called me Emma" Owen spoke and I could see the hurt in his eyes. "Or any of us"
"Would you have come at the request of a werelion?"
He stilled at my words, would they? No! Because they would have brushed it off and come for me only and let Dace handle it by himself because he’s a werelion, there’s no cooperation ever.
"It all happened so fast it was too late to call and there wasn’t enough time" I brushed it off looking away.
"Emma, you should have told me," Vanessa said.
"The Manticore is a creature lost to time... something my son has never faced before, he’s lucky he came out with just a scratch," Camille said, folding her arms. "You’re lucky your father isn’t here"
"It was no big deal," Dace said with clenched teeth. I think his mother showing her motherly affection was something he didn’t need right now.
"Still, the baffling question is how Emma was able to detect this Manticore before any of us" Oliver’s words made a cold silence fill the room.
It was in the air and I needed no question because I knew just exactly what he meant.
"Y-You think I called it"
"We are yet to come to a conclusion" Vanessa spoke.
"And yet you’re all here, right now"
I noticed Dace’s hand tightened on my waist and I looked over at him, is that why he kept quiet when I asked him what was wrong?
"You’re a half-witch and you attract many unwanted things, it would be foolish to turn a blind eye to this"
"State your business!" Dace said with clenched teeth and his grip further tightened on me.
"Watch it!" Owen snapped at him and Dace’s gleaming eyes darted at him and I swore that it felt like Dace was about to pounce on him without hesitation but surprisingly enough he remained still like a rock but I knew any further prick will cause him to move, can I even stop him?
In a powerful deep tone that almost shook the house and worst my very bones. "You come here... into my home and blame my female for a monster appearance... you better have an explanation for this"
