BLOOD LEGACIES -
Chapter 194: A State Of Terror
Chapter 194: A State Of Terror
My brain awoke as well as my body, like the speed of light I flickered my eyes open and emitted a strong puff of air unable to steady myself, I felt like I have just emerged from the depths of water and finally catching my breathing like I just found air, I was cold both inside and out and I couldn’t help my teeth chattering from it, it was so intense that I felt like my blood was ice. But suddenly a strong warmth engulfed me and all cold seemed to be erased like a snap, I was back to feeling that secured warmth, and my state of panic was somewhat reduced but I could still feel the remnants shocking my body.
"Emma, what’s wrong?" hearing Dace’s voice calmed me again and all I could do was bury my face in his chest and grip him so tightly like my life depended on it, I didn’t wanna let go. And he returned my action by wrapping his arms around me in a secure state like his possessiveness came to the surface like a wide sweep.
"Did you have a nightmare?" at his question I was suddenly reminded of my dream, the fear, the panic, and the terror all came back like a storm and my breathing picked up as I pulled away from him.
"S-Someone’s dying" I choked out desperately, my cheeks were wet now and I realized I have been crying, it was just too much to handle.
"What do you mean?" he was worried and confused but there was no time to explain.
"Dace we have to go to school now!" I quickly turned on my light, grabbed my glasses, and rushed to my wardrobe to take a coat.
"Emma talk to me"
"There’s no time to talk!" I regretted raising my voice but the tears and hysteria wouldn’t stop, my lips quivered as I ran my hands through my spread-out hair, he watched me muddled and anxious, he was silently begging for an explanation and I knew that. "Please Dace, someone’s dying, we have to go now, please" I cried again.
"Okay okay" he held me as I sobbed, he understood me as he always does and I was thankful. "Let’s go"
~
My eyes were squeezed shut, and all I could feel was the whooshing of the breeze against my face and the wind blowing my hair wildly, like a blink of an eye we were at the entrance of the school. Dace was piggybacking me as he blurred, I made sure I held him tightly because it felt like I would fall, finally his inhuman speed was over and he dropped me, I was ready to go off on my own but he stopped me when he grabbed my arm and pulled me back to his side.
"I don’t want you leaving my side, if what you saw in your dream is really happening we need to be careful"
I nodded, that action was stupid of me, I was scared shitless, I want nothing more than to be by his side, and nowhere else, Dace was the safest. I darted my eyes to the school and I exhaled heavily, my nerves were all over the place and I couldn’t get what I saw in my dream out of my head.
Dace gripped my hand tightly as we approached the school doors, my heart had never beat so fast before, and it felt like it would fall off. Just at the entrance of the school on the stairs, we spotted blood but that wasn’t enough because I saw the source of it. I screeched as I covered my mouth, my eyes trembled seeing the body of one of the security guards of our school. I remember him because he was usually at the entrance smiling at us whenever we walked in and sometimes talked with us. There he lay in the pool of his own blood, clawed marks all over his body like he was mauled to death, it was such an awful sight and I was on the verge of puking.
"Look away, Emma!"
It’s too late now I have already seen it all, I darted my eyes to Dace, I knew he didn’t want me to see this, but I have come across it many times in the time I have been here, the only problem was my dislike for blood so I was forced to look away, my stomach hurt and I forced myself not to vomit, I was very close. I heard Dace moving. I knew he was studying the body.
"These are claw marks, like a werelion"
I snapped my eyes to Dace he was squatting in front of the body and thanks to his large frame I couldn’t see it.
I swallowed hard. "A-A werelion did this?"
He rose to his feet facing me. "I will find out but I need to take you back home"
"S-Shouldn’t we call the authorities?"
"The authorities are mundane, remember? I’m the best chance of finding out what’s happening"
"Then we call the families"
"You said someone was in danger right? That will take too much time"
I moved to him and clung to his shirt tightly as I shook my head. "I’m not leaving you Dace... don’t take me back I will stay with you"
He was about to speak but a scream came in and I jerked facing the school, someone was in danger! And no one needed to tell us twice.
"Emma"
"No Dace!"
He growled.
"P-Please!" I was scared shitless but I didn’t wanna leave him, even if I go back I won’t be settled because he was out here alone. I knew Dace had nothing to worry about, he’s built like a killing machine but that doesn’t mean he can’t get hurt right? I was panicking and my throbbing mark against my chest was mini murder for me, I don’t think I will survive without being next to him. Like he senses my feelings he didn’t push further but his now fowl mood said otherwise. He drew me closer to his body as we walked through the school doors.
"Make sure you stay close to me"
I want nothing more than that.
~
It was dark, really dark, so it was almost impossible to see, the lights must be faulty or something. I wonder how Dace led me through with ease, it must be because of his different eyesight. My eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness, thankfully because of the moonlight slipping in through the windows and illuminating the halls, but it also gave it that surreal feel... this is why I don’t watch horror movies and now it felt like I was in one.
My heart was constantly throbbing in my chest and I could even hear it. If Dace wasn’t by my side I think I would have crumbled to a million pieces of fear.
"I can’t get a whiff of anything" I heard Dace mumble. I bit my bottom lip because I knew it was because of me, my scent was hindering Dace’s abilities and I knew it, I was beginning to regret that I tagged along, maybe he would have figured everything out already.
"Da-"
The scream came again and I jumped, it was familiar, very familiar just like the one in my dreams. It must be her, that girl I saw in my dream and like a cue she came into view, tattered as she was in my dreams running like something chased her, constantly looking over her back.
She turned and a glimpse of hope found her eyes when she set her orbs on us and she increased her pace, slamming herself into Dace arms.
"H-Help m-me p-please, please!" she cried loudly. "It’s coming, it’s coming!"
"Calm down" Dace tried to get to her but the poor girl was on the verge of a breaking point. "Tell me... what’s coming?"
"I-I-Its..." she couldn’t form the words right because she was shaking terribly, shivering too.
"Please tell us" I found my voice and like she finally noticed me she darted her eyes at me, and the tears spilled more and she broke once again, her words were all messy.
"W-We were just staying o-out late b-b-because of our stupid club, w-w-working on a...on a" she shocked again.
"Hey hey, easy" Dace consoled her, holding her firm but she couldn’t stop shaking, what exactly did she see?
She sobbed running her hand through her blonde hair, her lips quivering. "W-We were just there in the class"
"Just you?"
She shook her head. "Me, my b-b-best friend and two others, we were working and t-then we h-heard it..."
"Heard what?" My mind was splitting and the anticipation was killing me and my heart speeding in my chest.
Suddenly a profound robust growl that shook the entire hall came through, even the windows shook, I was afraid they would break just by the speeding vibration, it stopped like a turned-off switch and deadly silence filled us.
"That" she whispers and terror unlike anything I have ever seen filled her blue orbs. "It’s coming"
