BLOOD LEGACIES -
Chapter 158: Vortex
Chapter 158: Vortex
OWEN
~
The wind was quite heavy here... but this was what I needed, some air to clear my senses or to escape what happened, I don’t know which, I just know I wanna be alone, the first time I have thought of such a thing, I have always sought to be around people but right now that isn’t what I needed. I felt lost, I felt cornered and I felt defeated, almost like my own heart was betraying me.
I ran my fingers in my hair multiple times, unable to take my mind off Emma. Oh Emma, fuck! I merely chuckled to myself, what was the point of it then, after everything only for her to be bound to that beast? I can’t make sense of any of it because I don’t know what to think. A witch’s blood? A destined Female to a werelion? Fuck that was wrong! But either the way she had chosen and the mark was clear as day, she did indeed bear one of theirs, fuck!
"I thought I might find you here" I twirled at the sudden voice, confusion flushed through me because I knew this place to be isolated and no one would come here. Not even him.
"What are you doing here?" I asked my dad as he strolled up to me in slow steps, always seeming calm than ever.
"I know you come here whenever you want to be alone," he says, standing beside me with folded arms and watching the same view as me, which had most of the tropical area before us. "I’m your father, I know this," he mused.
I shifted my gaze away from him. "If you do then I want to be alone, you should know that too"
"I do," he nods. "But you left in quite a way that got me worried"
"Hope I didn’t offend our guest" I spat.
And a smirk found his lips. "It’s loud and clear Owen, you have feelings for Emma" he sealed gazes with me and I wavered. It took a moment as I blinked and forced my eyes away. With his ardent gaze on me it felt like he could see my very soul, maybe he could.
"So?" It doesn’t matter now" I said sternly. It was over... Dace was officially in Emma’s life, she accepted him and my clan did too.
"Is that so?"
I faced him and I narrowed my eyes. "You were the one who agreed to this!"
"True... but you don’t expect me to decline the Werelions, they may have come here for a talk... But the moment that mark was brought to our hearing you know I cannot say no to them, they would have taken her just how they took most of our lands. When the werelions set their eyes on something they never let go. Whether Emma’s decision or not it was inevitable" he faced the skies. "Funny her decision still set with us, I was truly hoping she would just choose him, smart"
Yes, I knew what Emma did was smart... that was the first time actually... that the Emma I knew speaks boldly about something, I was stunned when she did, she didn’t back down and wanted her voice and choice to be heard, Emma has changed. It made a smile find my lips, even though she was shy as always, there was this boldness that was slowly building in her.
My smile slowly fades. "Then what’s the point of coming here only to remind me of this"
"I’m not here to remind you, Owen"
"The fucking leave me alone!"
He snapped his eyes to me, they were unreliable now and his smirk was gone. "I spoke with Colton about something, I asked him to do some research"
"Look I’m not in the mood for this... you’re always cooked up in your office, why?"
"Just listen to me Owen, it’s about Emma"
I paused and my entire focus was on him now.
"After the incident, I asked Colton to do something for me some research after getting Emma’s blood"
"You what?"
"I drew her blood through magic"
"And you didn’t tell me?!" I was angry now... how could he do something like this without telling me and without Emma’s consent.
"I’m now..." he said without concern about my vexation, he looked more coordinated and serious now unlike when he came to find me, whatever it is he was gonna tell gotta be something intense. "Listen to me Owen, when I tested her blood I discovered something"
"What?!"
"How a simple spell could almost rip a class in two by her hand, I had no choice but to seek more answers"
"That’s why you took her blood"
"When it comes to blood testing... black result is a full pledged witch or warlock, half witch is oxblood"
"I know that already, her’s is Oxblood isn’t it?" That was the only explanation because she was a half-witch.
"It was..."
I blinked in confusion. "What do you mean it was?"
"First it gave us the color of Oxblood and then..." he paused almost like he was trying to relive what he saw. "And then it glowed"
"Glowed?"
"Yes, Owen, her blood glowed, and tell when last have we seen something like this"
"Because she’s a half-witch?"
"Think Owen, I thought you were taking your studies seriously"
I took a minute before I did as I was told, at the back of my head I knew I had heard of glowing witch blood before, but I wasn’t sure.
"Look I don-" I paused as my eyes widened in realization it all came to me now. "Wait, you don’t mean..."
"Yes, Owen" he nods. "Does your magic feel like it would combust whenever you’re around her? Do your spells get stronger even? She’s your age surely she’s affecting you"
Every word he uttered had truth in it, Emma made my magic dance and go wild, Henry and Miles even testified to that, so that’s it? It wasn’t just because she was a half-witch? Because that witch part of yours was something more, something she shouldn’t be. Because of it, she affected the barrier, my spell that day in the garden increased in power.
"She’s a Vortex" the realization struck me too hard to believe, I was stunned. "But that’s not possible, dad, she’s a half-witch, she’s not a pureblood so how? How can she be a Vortex?"
"The same thought I had Owen... but Vortex’s don’t do bloodline it appears,"
This was too much for me to take in, Emma’s a Vortex? Her?
"At the beginning of our clan of magic... There were certain individuals who could make even the simplest of spells and make them mighty, they are like a trigger to even the smallest things, their presence like a beam of energy, hence we call them the Vortex" he faces me. "Emma is a Vortex and now she’s in the hands of the werelions" He doesn’t sound pleased with that but...
"They don’t know"
"We cannot let her fall in their hands completely, Owen"
"What do you mean?"
"We have to find a way to unbound her from that Werelion"
"What? is that possible?" I asked with wide eyes.
"We have thousands of spells Owen... many, relating to every wonder of this world surely we can find something to break that bond, and then she will be free"
I gulped at his words.
"Owen" he placed a hand on my shoulder. "Even as a Vortex she is weak because of her body, but that doesn’t mean she can’t snap into a full potential that can be fatal to her. If she mixes bloodline with them not only will she empower our enemies but she will be in danger, we don’t know what will happens"
My leveled gaze moved to his.
"Do you want that Owen? Do you want her to walk into something as dangerous as that? If she’s with us and be with her people... marry our people then our clan will once again have the proper strength we deserve, she can link us more to our ancestors and we will no longer have the need for the werelions, we can outrun the vampires once and for all. She can BE with you" he tapped my shoulder.
"You care for her, and I know you aren’t happy with her future in the hands of those..." he exhaled sharply. "...beasts"
I flinched at his words.
"Think about it Owen, I need you in this, Emma needs you" he added the last part softly and it made my heart ache. He moved away and twirled to walk away.
"I will do it"
He halted in his steps before turning to me.
"Are you sure about this? If you agree to this... you must see to the end, for her"
Emma was into something bigger than her, she was bound to a werelion wrongfully, something that shouldn’t happen, and more she was a Vortex, like a treasure to my people and she was important to me.
"Yes... I will find a way to break her bond with Dace Devereaux"
