Chapter 145: Unforeseen Bloodline {1}

VANESSA

~

My mini heels clicked as I walked along the hall. Several teens in black walked past me, the night school was a really busy time during the summers, and classes run differently in this season. My hope was that Emma is able to adjust. I know it’s her first day and that’s too much to ask, but I really wanted to her blend in and find her way here, I didn’t want her to think that she is any different from us, being a half-witch DOES spells something entirely different, we haven’t had one before and we don’t know how to deal with such, but I believed her place was here.

I didn’t expect Owen to tell his dad about her Cycle, I was more than happy keeping it secret as long as it assures her safety but I should have read Owen, well I have always read him but during this period of time he has been acting quite different, different from the Owen I knew, I wonder why. I knew for a start he took a liking to Emma, maybe that’s what.

I sighed deeply, dealing with teens is not an easy feat, Just look at Emma and me, she was angry at me, she barely said anything to me ever since her coming back home, I try to understand her but sometimes I don’t, the Emma I knew was something who didn’t like the attention or anything that has to do with pain or most likely danger, I have read her for the few months she has been here, but when it comes to that Devereaux heir all that goes out the window.

Ha, Emma... this was something I have not expected since she set foot in this town, I thought I might be able to shield her from all the supernatural craziness, but like I told her earlier, fate have other plans, she turned out to be a half-witch, witch blood who have had a relationship with a werelion, thank god she was human when that happened and her cycle was yet to find her, we have strict law here and meddling with a Devereaux was the crucial one. I hope she understands why this is meant to happen, why she can no longer see that werelion, she’s a part of us, part of the ancestors now, no matter what she cannot break that blood oath, I will make sure of it.

I made a turn and met the Secretary.

"He’s waiting for you miss Adams"

I gave a curt nod at her words and walked through the door closing it behind me. I strode into the wide office, with several rows of bookshelves behind. This building... The Head family building is very old and has all its aesthetic from decades ago. It was the first house of the head family, after all, passed for generations. It gave that old vibes and the designs it stayed with surprisingly... looked new like it was built the very week.

I set my eyes on Oliver Sherman, my clan leader and the head family itself, the very pure bloodline of warlocks and witches. I took a deep breath approaching him, Owen took most of his looks from him, both splitting images of each other, age does not show on this one, he was still as handsome as I recalled.

I cleared my throat for attention and also to stop my thoughts. He finally lifted his gaze from the pile of files he had on his table and set his honey brown eyes on me, a smile graced his lips, lighting up his features more.

"Vanessa" he mused in that smooth tone of his.

"You ask to see me..." I began. "...Oliver... it’s rare"

"Not unless you’re coming to see me yourself... as I recalled last two weeks about a certain individual"

I sighed. "My niece is getting famous"

"More famous than she was... when she was human"

"I see," I mumbled.

"Have a sit... this talk might take long"

"Might?" I asked, settling on a seat before his table.

"It’s about Emma"

"Oh" my eyes widened, I expected that but not so soon. "She just started today, Emma is not the one for trouble... believe me" he wasn’t just the clan leader but the principal too, this cannot be good. Emma is not trouble... not unless she is with a Devereaux.

"No no" he mused, leaning up.

"Then what?"

"I understand you decided to enroll her here" he began as he rested his arms on the table and I noticed how those ripped arms of his bulge out from his rolled-up sleeves, I quickly shifted my gaze to his eyes. "But I must say... it is risky"

"Risky? This is the best place for her... I came to that decision when my house was nearly in ruins by her element, she can only wield that here, I want that for her"

"I understand and like I said I respect your decision to bring her..."

"I’m sensing a but..."

He paused for a minute before he spoke, leaning on his black chair. "She’s a half-witch Vanessa... a mixed bloodline of a human and witch blood. Either from her mother’s side a witch or her father’s side a human or vice versa"

"Vivan doesn’t have witch blood" I clarified.

"True... but both of you are twins... the witch blood might have passed unto you but Vivan is still an Adams, a witch descendant"

"What is the purpose of this talk?"

"Emma as a half-witch is a mystery to us, we don’t know how she will adapt to learning spells or the toll her body will take from it. A full pledged witch or warlock when it comes to dating spells that are far strong or lesser... our body takes the toll but over the centuries we have handled that effect on our bodies"

I exhaled sharply, getting more worried than I have ever been in the past week "You’re saying Emma’s body might be weak"

"Yes, that is one thing we should keep on account... the human part of her might not allow her to become the witch you want her to be or the control you seek for her when it comes to her powers"

"Bringing her here was a mistake then?"

"I’m lacing this out of theories, they aren’t certain yet... I will keep an eye on her through Owen... if there’s any abnormality we will see to it"

I gulped hard at his words, I didn’t think of any of this, I only wanted her to not freak out and do things that she might not control that was why I brought her here, I didn’t think this far ahead but Oliver has, as expected of him, he is always two steps ahead that is what I admire of him.

"Thank you... I’m dumb not to see that"

"Oh Vanessa don’t say that... you’re only doing what’s best for her, as you should"

I nodded.

"One more thing"

"There’s more?"

"I know this happened before her witch blood awakened but her relationship with a werelion..."

Great.

"Trust me, Oliver... I have explained to her that the blood oath must be honored; they can’t see each other again" I assured him. "I will see to that trust me"

"The deed has already been done, rumors are already around the school.... Some may be afraid to approach her because of her relationship with a werelion while some won’t take it well"

"She won’t be bullied will she?" that was the point. "Fuck!" I mumbled.

"I will try to keep that under control... I thought I should let you know"

"As long as Owen is here I know he will look after her"

He smiled. "You know... I was stunned when Owen came to my office that day" he began in a wistful tone. "We rarely talk... he rarely comes here, when he asked that of me about Emma and told me everything, I understood she’s important to him"

I forced a smile. "You read him well"

He sighed leaning back on his chair. "We are in fucking times, Vanessa," he said in a more serious tone. "The barrier? Owen believes that Emma might have cursed it. In a normal sense I understand, a half-witch in our midst is unpredictable, and if that’s not enough, a Royal? The very Royal blood vampires responsible for wiping out the Juneau’s are after her?"

"Emma is someone who doesn’t like attention but somehow calls out unwanted things..." I said in a shaky breath. A slapping truth.

"We should still cooperate with the werelions... even though the barriers are patched and she’s safer with us... we might not have that advantage"

"What are you saying?" I blinked. "I get your point I do... but involving them is..." I bit my bottom lip.

"You’re worried about her null relationship with one of them"

"Of course!" I snapped which I shouldn’t. I closed my eyes, sighing deeply. "I’m sorry"

"I will speak to Elias"

I nodded, gripping the armchair hoping to balance myself.

"A half-witch as unforeseen"

I shifted my eyes to him, they held seriousness and I knew no doubt what he was about to tell me was a tough thing to handle.

"A mixed bloodline of human blood and witch blood calls many things... Emma is something we are yet to understand"
