Chapter 143: How Hard It Is To Read A Book {1}
"It’s not working," I said in frustration, casting the book aside on the table. I have tried this 6 times and yet nothing... it was still the same blank page, and no words popped out at all as expected, what was I doing wrong? I did as Owen directed, which was exactly the same tips as Mrs. Claudia.
Owen blinked multiple times like he was trying to register my comment or more the situation. "I don’t understand... you’re supposed to"
"It’s not working"
"But you did exactly as I told you... it should work"
"Yes I did, focus my magic in my eyes, which I don’t feel at all"
He exhaled sharply. "We must be doing something wrong"
"Or I can’t do it" I mumbled fidgeting with my fingers, it wasn’t working at all and Owen seemed to not want to see that. "Maybe it has to do with because I’m a half-witch"
"No Emma... you have witch blood, it will work... maybe it just needs some time" I just nodded my head halfway through his words but I flinched when his hand settled on mine. "Hey, I’m here okay"
I looked to the side, removing my hand from his. "I’m hungry," I said already on my feet. "I promised Carly we will eat together" I walked away before he could say anymore.
"Emma"
I halted... I really wish he didn’t call my name.
"Are you angry with me?"
I sighed heavily.
"Because I did what’s right for you?"
I twirled. "Why do you think this is right for me?" I narrowed my eyes.
"Because it is... you know the blood oath"
"Owen" I sighed, closing my eyes before flicking them open. "Vanessa told you something... she trusted you with something and yet you went ahead and told your dad with-"
"And I will do it again" He took a step towards me that caused my heart to slam a beat. "If it means keeping him away from you" he adds dangerously low. "I will fucking do it again" he added in a much deeper tone that got my heart racing, I could see it all in his orbs and I was forced to level my gaze "We shared something, Emma"
I looked to the side.
"Doesn’t it mean anything to you?"
I bit my bottom lip before forcing myself to face him back. "We just kissed Owen" I mumbled.
"And it means something to me... what about you?" he said sincerely.
I shake my head about twirling but he grips my arm. "Emma"
I exhaled sharply.
"Talk to me"
What was he expecting me to say? Whatever it is he wanted me to say I have no idea, I knew he was desperate for what was in my mind, so I faced him.
"You’re my friend Owen" I closed my eyes. "P-Please don’t make this harder for me"
He huffed at my words.
"I have to go" I mumbled, removing my hand from his grip as I walked away. I was recently scared to meet his eyes directly because I knew what I would see in them, the never-ending emotions I wasn’t sure I could handle.

After I was done filling my plate with food I wasn’t so sure I had the appetite to eat so I walked towards a table and spotted Carly who waved at me. I forced a smile to stretch on my lips as I strode toward her.
"Sorry I’m late"
"No worries, practicing?"
I settled on my seat and I just stroked a nod.
"Well, how did it go?"
I just forced a smile.
"Guess what?"
"What?
"Seems like spells are officially on my reading list"
"You read it"
She nodded giggly. "Henry helped... fuck I’m so way behind, I’m glad I’m getting a hang of it"
"Yeah me too"
"Did you read yours? Just like Mrs. Claudia said"
I shook my head and she frowned. "Oh"
"Maybe I just need to practice better" I nodded, poking my straw in my juice.
"Mmm"
"What?"
"I don’t know you don’t look too happy," she said in a certain tone, watching me with her blue eyes, and I leveled my eyes away from hers, scared they might read me completely.
"Trying to adjust that’s all" I mumbled.
"Is something going on with Owen?"
I almost coughed on my straw but I held it in. "W-Why do you ask?"
She shrugged. "You talk with ease with Henry and Miles but Owen, you keep avoiding him... it obvious"
Was it?
"N-Nothing’s going on between us" I forced a smile.
She was about to speak but footsteps hovered over us and we both turned to two girls that stood before us. The one in front waved her golden lock she let down over her shoulder giving me a look.
"C-Can I help you?" I was forced to ask because her whole attention was directed at me, I couldn’t help but admire her outfit, her dress sense was sort of similar to Emilia, making her look like some Diva.
"Emma Adams... the recently claimed witch" she began with a smile but her words made chills flood through my body.
"I-Is there something I can help you with?"
"Not only a half-witch but..." the other girl behind her trail.
"But Lion’s girl," the one with the golden locks said and it caught the attention of others making everyone cease whatever they were doing.
"I’m Sophie Sherman" she mused as her brown eyes sparkled. "And if no one is gonna clearly state the obvious then I will..."
"It’s Owen’s cousin," Carly whispered to me.
"You’re the talk of the school, the half-witch and the Lions girl" she mused. "Tell me how was it? Fucking a beast?"
I huffed at her words, but I could barely hear myself when the hall circulated with murmurs.
"I have no idea why the head family allowed you to be here... You shouldn’t" she added in a firm tone.
I sighed, grabbing my tray.
"Emma," Carly said with worried eyes.
I rose to my feet and faced Sophie. "Is that all?" I mumbled walking past her hoping to get away from all the eyes around me.
But I suddenly felt the ground beneath me shift and next I found myself on the floor with my tray releasing from my hold.
