Chapter 120: Perilous Answers

Dace knows!

Dace knows Owen kissed me!

What am I gonna do?!

I should have said something but there hasn’t exactly been time, now it would seem like I cheated on him, what should I do?!

I couldn’t stop my beat from thrashing so fast and I couldn’t meet his eyes either, I let them stay glued to his chest, I was thinking, brooding about what I could possibly say.

"I-I-I-I" My attempts to speak was even a joke, I couldn’t form the words right, and my nerves were all over the place, I was quivering.

I heard a sigh escape from Dace and I was forced to look at him, he had his back facing me now, when did he turn?

Is he angry? I couldn’t read him and that only made matters worse, I could feel the heat radiating off him like a hot furnace was standing before me, I couldn’t ease my sweating.

"You need your drip"

I jumped at his sudden voice, I gulped hoping he would say something again but he didn’t.

~

My grip tightened on the sheets when Dace inserted the drip back into my hand, once again he did so that it wouldn’t hurt me, but I was still shaking from the last event, I was super nervous, Dace had been silent and it scared me.

"Your questions"

I leisurely drifted my eyes to him, they were back to me but I couldn’t read them.

"I will answer them"

I sighed shakily, I should try to think, I should say something, staying silent won’t get me anywhere.

"A-Are you angry?" I asked in a serene tone which was foolish of me, but I couldn’t help it, I needed to understand him.

"Emma," he began. "I knew about this a week ago"

Yes, that’s right... I have been asleep for a week, he has known all this time.

"O-Okay"

"I want you to ask me questions related to that day" he changed the topic and I shifted uncomfortably, he didn’t need to tell me, I knew he was hurt and angry, I shouldn’t bring it up right now, Dace can be unpredictable sometimes, I should focus on getting my answers, that was what he chose to answer right now, so I should respect it. I will bring this up later and then I can come clean about it and explain to him the situation that led to it.

I gulped. "That night... t-the werelion, was that you?"

"Yes"

I taunted, the second beast I saw was Dace. I could still see it through my peripheral vision, it was still imprinted in my brain, the werelion, the beastly looks, the killing intent, and the growls.

"That was my lion form, Emma, what you saw last time was just part of it"

I gulped. "So you should know... I can be a beast sometimes"

"The vampire" I quickly said, hoping to change the topic, because it felt like Dace was trying to scare me with his nature or that I was already scared. Yes, I was scared, I knew exactly what I got myself into. Vanessa and Owen have always spelled out for me in clear words how wild a werelion can be but I never thought seeing his true form would shock me like this.

"T-The vampire said something about..." I gulped hard. "He said he had c-claimed me’’ I shifted my gaze to Dace and I noticed as his eyes were highlighted and his muscles flexed.

"He bit you Emma, enough to kill you"

"B-But I’m still alive" I could still remember how it felt, the feeling of my own blood leaving my body like some pipe was connected to me, he was killing me, and yet he abstained from doing such.

"He knew that, that is why that bite is not just a bite... its mark"

"What are you saying?"

"He’s coming back for you"

I drew sharply on my breathing.

"And when he does... I will make sure to rip him to shreds"

The tears fell before I could stop them and I quickly wiped them away, I suddenly recalled the looks Luther gave me. It said it all, and even without words, I knew he would come back, for me.

"T-The barrier"

"For now its been patched up but they don’t know what caused it, there could still be loopholes, which is why you’re safe here with me"

"Vanessa..."

"She’s okay, she came here a few times to see you"

"I wanna see her... please?"

He took a moment before he nodded. "I will see about that tomorrow"

I nodded and silence seemed to slip in between us, the air was heavy and it was getting harder to breathe. I knew the answers I would get from Dace will not be a good one.

"He said the exact same words about my blood, just like the other vampire" I met his eyes. "I-I’m scared Dace, I-I"

"Hey" he wiped my tears with his thumb. "Marked or not I won’t let him get you, I promise" I believe in Dace’s words, I really do, But I still felt agitated like I was in the jaws of a shark and this damn wound in my neck was stinging, it made a chill shock my spine.

"That vampire, it looked different from the others" I began, remembering the qualities I observed about him.

"Yes, he’s powerful,"

"He looked human but at the same time he was not he’s not like the first vampire who attacked me"

"Yes he’s not" he began. "He’s a Royal blood"

"Royal blood?"

He nods. "Royal bloods are vampires above hierarchy, my guess he’s one of them, I have never seen anyone up close, The Royals always have a system of letting their minions do their dirty work, It’s a mystery he came here himself" he explained and it seemed to connect the dots once again. "Another of my guess he must have led the vampires through the barrier for an attack"
