BLOOD LEGACIES -
Chapter 107: Prom Day {1}
Chapter 107: Prom Day {1}
I stood before my mirror in my dress, almost matching the color of my eyes, V-neck, and the sleeves although tiny but thick enough for me but my arms were still exposed now everyone will see just how skinny I was. The dress just stopped at my knees, straight.
I leveled my gaze to the white cardigan jacket, well that will do, I can take that, the night is cold after all.
I slid on it before fixing my hair in my usual top bun, Today so far was kinda okay, what made me smile was speaking with my mom, she was actually the first person, ramming the words ’Happy birthday,’ to me and kisses, I swear if she were here she will give me a bear hug which I craved, but distance was a bitch.
And then I got messages from Henry and miles, it seems they were told too.
"Okay," I said to myself, I look simple and that was okay for me, the heels I wore weren’t those high ones, they looked almost like sanders, at least I can walk with them.
I sighed. "You can do this" I muttered to myself, there will surely be a crowd but well I will just have to endure it.
"Emma!"
"Coming!"
I quickly tied the rose to my wrist, wore some dot earrings, and sighed deeply before grabbing my purse with my phone in it and rushing downstairs but I ceased my actions when I saw Owen. I remained frozen just at the height of the stairs, unable to take my eyes off him, he looked good wearing a tux, he looked all brushed up and I mentally slapped myself for dressing so vaguely. Maybe I should have applied makeup, I would have just asked Vanessa for help, great!
I descended the stairs adjusting my glasses and he smiled.
"You look beautiful"
"Thanks," I said with a blush, pulling some strands of my hair behind my ear.
"Happy birthday Emma" he gave me a rose he held and I shyly took it unable to look him in the eyes but I forced myself to and then a light flashed through followed by a snap sound. Vanessa took a picture.
"She does look beautiful, you can thank me, she has poor taste in dresses"
"Vanessa"
Owen chuckled.
"Oh Happy birthday Emma, I know I’m saying it for the second time but it matches up for this" she revealed a box.
"What’s in it?"
She giggled "Go on, open it" I did and I gasped when I saw a beautiful bracelet inside, it looked just like... Owen’s mom’s necklace because of the pendant with a triquetra symbol. I remember when Owen told me it was their clan symbol or something. It was a silver chain with the triquetra pendant, about four of it all tiny but the craftsmanship was gorgeous.
"It’s beautiful," I said breathlessly. "Thank you"
She smiled warmly at me. "You’re always welcome"
~
I couldn’t stop staring at the lovely bracelet Vanessa got for me, my finger lining the symbol, it was so beautiful.
"We are here" Owen’s words snapped me back. And I looked up at the disco lights coming from the school, I took a deep breath.
I heard my door open and Owen helped me out.
"Thanks," I said blushing as our hands touched but I quickly pulled away hoping that he didn’t notice.
Owen remained smiling like he just won a lottery and I was too shy to look at him, my gaze remained to the ground even as we stepped into school.
They used the sports hall and it definitely does not look like the sports hall anymore, with all the decoration it was all changed, with more highlights and vibe. The music was so loud that it made my ears hurt, the dance floor was quite lively and the DJ was rocking so wild.
So this is prom, I rubbed my arms, training my eyes on the other girls with heavy makeup and beautiful dresses I looked down at my simple dress, I really feel like a misplaced piece not that I minded but it was still good to admire beautiful things, their dresses were gorgeous but I wasn’t so sure I can wear their type. It exposes too much skin and mine wasn’t exactly what I was proud of, I was cautious of that because of how skinny I was.
I spotted Henry and Miles who waved at me from a distance with a red cup in their hand. I forced a smile waving back at them, they looked so handsome in their tux, it was like that particular suit seemed to bring out their manliness.
"Here" I turned to Owen who gave me a drink and I narrowed my eyes.
"Relax, it’s just juice," he pointed to the place he took it from.
"Sorry, I just don’t want to be drunk, people get drunk a lot at proms," I said while taking the drink and he raised an eyebrow.
"Sounds accurate for someone who hasn’t attended Prom before"
"Well, I heard" I shrugged.
"I see," he mused.
"Do I look off?"
"What?"
"I mean out of all the beautiful girls you’re stuck with me" I adjust my glasses before taking a sip from my drink.
He snickered. "You’re beautiful Emma, trust me, but for a change, I would love to see makeup on you"
I frowned. "Really?"
He shrugged. "I don’t know, girls and their things, it has a way of highlighting features or something"
So he does like girls with makeup then...
"Are you cold?"
"What?" he pointed to my sweater.
"Oh," I clenched it. "Yeah"
I shifted my gaze and it turned out I was the only one on a cardigan. That was alarming. Now I was really feeling off and uncomfortable.
"Are you okay?"
"Why are you asking?"
"You look like you are kept with thorns"
Well, I feel like it.
"I don’t know, I told you prom is not for me" I muttered.
"It’s your birthday"
"I know"
"Aren’t you happy?"
I sighed.
"It’s just..." I didn’t know what word to use.
"It’s okay, I understand you... but that doesn’t mean I can’t give you my present"
"Present?" I asked.
The music changed to a much slower beat sound and I noticed everyone was dancing in twos now.
"Will you dance with me?"
