Chapter 391: -139- The Angry Third Prince

Violet Duchy, Capital Mansion of Linte City.

Inside the central castle of the city, Third Prince Philip, who had been transported to Violet through the Super Long-Distance Point-to-Point Transmission Magic at the Mage Tower, sat on a noble’s chair, his brows furrowed, watching the personal soldier before him report:

"What did you say? The main force of Castel’s rebels has been completely annihilated?"

"Yes, completely annihilated... It is said that on the banks of the Don River, they lasted only half a day before they were wiped out by Castel’s Allied Forces."

The personal soldier lowered his head as he answered.

Hearing the personal soldier’s words, Third Prince Philip’s expression changed.

He involuntarily stood up, shaking his head:

"Half a day? No... that’s impossible!"

"The rebels from the Northern Land had gathered at least ten thousand men! If we include the hired Northern Territory Cavalry, the forces could nearly reach twenty thousand!"

"The Mage Group of Castel had already disbanded, they absolutely didn’t have the power to form a battle array, how could they possibly defeat so many troops?"

"To speak of twenty thousand rebels, even if there were twenty thousand wild boars, Castel’s forces couldn’t capture them all in three days, yet now you are telling me they were defeated in half a day?"

"What about the Northern Territory Cavalry? What about Count Gaston’s forces? Didn’t the army of the Tulip Count Domain betray them in the midst of battle?!"

Third Prince asked sternly.

The personal soldier swallowed saliva, his scalp going numb as he replied:

"Prince... Your Highness, the stationed army of Tulip indeed betrayed them right in the midst of battle, but... they turned towards Castel..."

Hearing this, Third Prince Philip’s expression completely changed.

He grabbed the personal soldier’s chain armor collar, his look darker than ever before:

"What did you say? Tulip’s stationed army turned towards Castel? Do you realize what you’re saying? Those were Bold Duchy’s elite standing army!"

"Yes, Lord Prince, news from the north says that Tulip Count Domain’s stationed army turned in battle, joining Castel’s Allied Forces..."

"It was precisely the defection of the stationed army that led to the massive defeat of the rebels, even capturing many of the Northern Territory’s Cavalrymen."

While speaking, the personal soldier cautiously presented a sheepskin scroll.

Third Prince snatched it over, quickly scanning through it, and the more he read... the darker his expression became, the fiercer... his gaze grew.

"Traitor! Madman! Anatole de Gaston dares to betray me! Does he really not fear me directly stripping him of his title and domain?!"

Third Prince tore the sheepskin scroll to pieces, fiercely throwing it onto the ground, his handsome features twisted with rage.

Anatole was the name of Count Gaston, his full name being Anatole de Gaston, and his domain was in the south of Bold at the Count Linte Territory.

Strictly speaking, he should be referred to as Count Linte, but because the Gaston family name was quite illustrious and Bold Duchy only had one Gaston branch, many of Bold’s nobles habitually called him Count Gaston.

Duke Gaston’s betrayal undoubtedly plunged Third Prince into fury.

The elite standing army capable of deploying Magic Energy Formations, there weren’t many throughout Bold Duchy, and Gaston’s defection directly took away nearly one-third!

"I knew it! I knew it! I should never have believed his lies of loyalty! These nobles of Bold... every single one of them is a scoundrel!"

Third Prince roared angrily, his teeth gritted in a way that scared even Eleanor, who was massaging his feet, causing her to shudder.

And when Third Prince’s gaze fell on his wife standing before him, his rage burned even fiercer.

He kicked her away furiously:

"Useless! All useless! Your Bold family is also useless! The very standing army we raised! To think they would run off with those lower nobles!"

When Count Linte entered the room, he saw Third Prince in the midst of his tantrum.

The middle-aged noble, as the heir to Violet Duchy, slightly frowned and said in a stern voice:

"Prince, mind your status, she is your wife and also the Duchess of Bold."

"Hmph!"

Seeing the middle-aged noble who entered the room, Third Prince then withdrew his foot.

"What are you standing there for? Quickly take Lady Eleanor away."

Count Linte said to a nearby personal soldier.

The personal soldier trembled, not daring to move at all.

Count Linte glanced again at Third Prince:

"Prince..."

Facing the gaze of the middle-aged noble, the Third Prince took a deep breath to quell his anger.

Looking at the shivering, curled-up Eleanor, a flicker of disgust flashed through his eyes before he waved his hand impatiently and said,

"Enough, take her away."

Following the order, the personal soldier escorted Eleanor out, leaving only the Third Prince and Count Linte in the room.

Count Linte sighed and said,

"Your Highness, the task of attending to you can entirely be done by the maidservants. After all, Lady Eleanor is the Duchess of Bold..."

"I am well aware she is the Duchess, but I am even more aware that her last name is Bold. My dear uncle, you should know how the old Duke Bold treated me back then,"

the Third Prince retorted with narrowed eyes.

Count Linte, somewhat helpless, replied,

"The past is in the past. Now, you are the Duke of Bold and a strong contender for the throne. You should be looking towards the future. Every move you make is observed by the nobles, you..."

"Enough, my dear uncle, if you’re here to preach, you might as well stop. I’m too annoyed to listen to any of this right now."

The Third Prince waved his hand as he spoke.

Count Linte hesitated before saying,

"Is it the news of the Castel rebels’ defeat?"

The Third Prince glanced at him:

"Has grandfather already heard?"

"Yes, the news has spread. It’s said that Tulip’s standing cavalry crushed the rebels in one fell swoop,"

Count Linte sighed.

The Third Prince remained silent, and seeing his silent and gloomy demeanor, Count Linte asked,

"Your Highness, how do you plan to deal with the Gaston family?"

The Third Prince eyed him and replied,

"My uncle, I know what you’re trying to say. Count Gaston is indeed from the Gaston family, and you’re worried about offending that old fox, Duke Gaston..."

"But, my dear uncle, haven’t you considered why he would betray me?"

"Ha, if he did not have other forces backing him, how would he dare betray me—a mere count whose domain is under my control—and scheme against me?"

"Stealing my army to help quell the rebellion in Castel... haha, he doesn’t want to see me strengthen my hold over Castel!"

Hearing the Third Prince’s words, the middle-aged noble’s eyelids twitched:

"Are you suggesting that Count Gaston’s actions were supported by Duke Gaston in secret? Perhaps that duke is no longer neutral and has sided with the Second Prince?"

"Humph, it’s not impossible,"

the Third Prince said coldly.

Count Linte hesitated:

"So, your Highness..."

"Don’t worry, I can distinguish between urgency and importance. Castel is the primary concern right now. As for Gaston... there will be time to settle the score with him after Castel is dealt with!"

the Third Prince declared.

As he spoke, he narrowed his eyes:

"It seems... I underestimated that little count."

"Being able to make Gaston betray, perhaps she has already been wooed by the Second Prince and won his support."

"My uncle, the situation has changed, it seems... we must march north immediately and declare war on Castel."

Count Linte nodded:

"My father also agrees. The Violet army is ready, and we can move out immediately after declaring war."

The Third Prince nodded in satisfaction.

Losing the Tulip garrison made him furious, but it was not enough to entirely affect the overall situation.

Castel... ultimately, it is a count’s domain lacking transcendental resources, and certainly no match for Violet and Bold united!
