Chapter 281: -50- A little trouble_2
Could it be... that my own mother’s true identity is from the Falling Star Royal Family?
This speculation was not without possibilities, as Charlotte had known from early on that her mother came from the Great Nobles of the Falling Star Kingdom and, apparently due to sensitive identity issues, had hidden everything about her past after coming to the New Moon Kingdom.
Charlotte had not paid much attention to these matters before, but now, since she might also be entangled in the strife of the Falling Star Kingdom, she felt perhaps she should properly investigate.
"Nisi, since you have read so many books describing the Falling Star Royal Family, have you ever come across a member named Annie?"
Charlotte asked.
"Annie? There are many named Annie in the Falling Star Kingdom, and quite a few in the royal family, too. Which Annie would you like to inquire about?"
Nisi scratched its head.
Suddenly remembering something, it raised its chubby face and asked,
"Wait... are you suspecting that your mother is a member of the Falling Star Royal Family?"
Charlotte nodded,
"Those who can be addressed as ’Your Highness’ would only be princesses and the like, right?"
"A Saintess or some females of transcendental status could also be addressed as such... However, your mother was a devout Holy believer and likely does not fall into that category. Before you were born, she often came to the Church to feed me dried fish!"
Charlotte: ...
There were too many odd points in that sentence, and she did not even know where to begin her retort.
Noticing Charlotte’s peculiar expression, Nisi suddenly realized its mistake and quickly said,
"Ah, no... I’m sorry, not before you were born, but before this body of yours was born."
Saying this, it scratched its head again,
"To tell you the truth, you seem more humane than I imagined, which often causes me to forget your true identity..."
Charlotte: ...
That sounded so strange.
"Lord Charlotte, are you curious about the origins of your mother in this body? If you want to clear things up, maybe I can help ask around. Don’t look at me now, I have quite a few friends inside the Church, several of whom have been appointed as priests in the Falling Star Kingdom, and there are even Great Priests. If I ask them to investigate, perhaps they can find some clues."
Nisi patted its chest as it spoke.
Charlotte’s interest was piqued, and she nodded,
"That would be good, leave this matter to you."
"Alright!"
Nisi happily raised its tail.
Sebastian was rarely absent, but now it was Nisi’s turn to show off its skills in front of Charlotte.
The poor Black Cat did not realize that, as time passed and after repeated conflicts with Sebastian, it was gradually turning into a loyal hound itself.
"Alright, call someone in to lock up Madoc, and interrogate him thoroughly once he regains consciousness."
After glancing at the North Port Mayor foaming at the mouth on the ground, Charlotte ordered.
...
The attack that had an anticlimactic end did not affect the Count Mansion’s banquet.
In fact, because the main conflict had occurred in the spirit world, the nobles in the banquet hall were even unaware of Charlotte’s previous encounter with a Bloodline assault.
It was a pity that they had not managed to take control of Lachlan Count, but Charlotte had not come away empty-handed.
At the least, she had roughly figured out what the Nais Clan might really be up to.
Madoc was probably just a small character, but using him as a starting point, she might be able to pry out more information.
Moreover, although Lachlan Count was erased by Duke Yoroc, Charlotte also took advantage of the psychic invasion opportunity to roughly pinpoint his location.
It was clear that Duke Yoroc did not feel confident in rescuing Lachlan Count from Charlotte’s hands, which suggested that Lachlan Count surely knew a lot of important information regarding the Nais Clan.
Charlotte planned to arrange a raid once Sebastian returned.
Of course, she did not hold too much hope, for Lachlan Count’s castle was indeed within the Count Territory, but it was too far from North Port, and it would take at least two or three days to reach.
Two or three days... Charlotte estimated that was enough time for the Duke named Yoroc to take care of things. Perhaps by the time her people arrived at the castle, there would be nothing left.
However, for Charlotte, the coming period would also be her best opportunity to reorganize her territory.
The death of Lachlan Count, who was likely the person in charge of the Nais Clan’s infiltration into Castel, meant that the hidden Bloodline forces within Castel would inevitably be thrown into chaos.
Duke Yoroc had been scared off by her, and for the short term, the Blood Duke, who had no clear understanding of her capabilities, would probably not take any further action, all of which bought Charlotte time.
However, Charlotte did not think this would solve everything once and for all.
In fact, her recent act had not been without flaws, and if Duke Yoroc was determined to investigate, it would have been quite easy to link the "mysterious Bloodline powerhouse" with "Charlotte of Castel."
The probability of discovering they were the same person was very, very small, but guessing that there was a relationship between the two was almost certain.
The only thing to be thankful for was probably that the Nais Clan and the Holy Royal Court were in a state of hostility, so Duke Yoroc definitely had no way to check with the Church to see if there was a Bloodline who worshipped the Contract God...
But nothing was absolute, the Nais Clan was skilled in Observation, and who knew whether they would use divination or similar means to confirm some information.
As for whether the Nais Clan would continue to make moves against Castel, to be honest, Charlotte was also uncertain.
What she could do now was to take advantage of the Nais Clan’s slow reaction and catch them off guard!
At this thought, Charlotte casually picked up the materials that the nobles had provided by reporting each other at the banquet.
She stroked her chin, pensive:
"It seems that these materials, most likely originally intended to confuse the issue, could actually come in handy."
...
This was a forest brimming with vitality.
Tall trees shielded the sky while lush bushes thrived.
White spires, marvels of construction, rose among the woods, surrounded by fresh flowers and vines, forming a city within the forest as if it were an Illusion Realm.
In the central and tallest spire of the city, two slender figures sat opposite each other, leisurely playing a game of Mireya chess.
One of the figures was a handsome young man dressed in a star-studded blue and black robe, with silver-grey hair cascading naturally behind him.
If Charlotte were here, she would recognize him as the Blood Duke—Yoroc Nais—who had just confronted her in the Spirit world.
The other figure was a beautiful female Elf.
Her magnificent gown adorned with vibrant flowers and greenery, along with the silver hair and golden eyes that symbolized Royal Authority, gave her an air of nobility and mystery.
Suddenly, Yoroc Nais’s movements paused slightly, his black Priest Chess piece held in mid-air.
Seeing his momentarily serious expression, the female Elf smiled gently and asked:
"Lord Yoroc, what’s wrong?"
Duke Yoroc’s eyes flickered, as he slowly placed the Priest Chess piece down:
"Great Elder, there’s been a problem with the clan, I’m afraid I cannot continue our chess game today."
"Oh? What happened?"
The female Elf asked curiously.
A flash of red light passed through Duke Yoroc’s eyes as he said indifferently:
"It’s nothing serious, just a little trouble on the Castel side..."
Having said this, he rose from the chessboard, bowed to the female Elf, and said:
"Great Elder, may I borrow one of your island’s quiet rooms for a moment?"
The female Elf smiled and said:
"Of course, the Nais are friends of Moon God Island. Take my emblem down, and our kin will naturally lead you to our finest quiet room."
"Thank you for your generosity,"
Duke Yoroc spoke.
With those words, he hurriedly left the spire.
"A little trouble, huh..."
As the female Elf watched the increasingly advantageous position of the black chess pieces on the board, she laughed softly:
"Something that makes a Blood Duke with a strong desire for victory leave his chess game and hurry to a quiet room for Observation does not seem like a ’little trouble’..."
