Chapter 256: -39- Are you a Bloodline?!_2
Charlotte’s heart stirred, and she glanced at her lightly:
"Miss Agnes, please do not forget, you are not the sole subject of my interrogation."
"You may prefer to have your spirit world shattered than to answer my questions, but... even if you can resist the power of spirit control, your knight may not be able to."
Upon hearing Charlotte’s words, Agnes’s expression finally changed:
"You want to control Rahael?!"
She grew almost instantly frantic and furious:
"Where is Rahael?! What have you done to him?!"
Seeing the girl suddenly grow tense, Charlotte knew she had caught her opponent’s weak spot.
She chuckled lightly and said,
"Your knight is currently safe. He is badly injured, and even with the Bloodline’s Blood Healing abilities, it’s unlikely he’ll fully recover quickly. He is undergoing treatment now, so I came to interrogate you first."
As she spoke, Charlotte’s expression suddenly turned cold:
"However... if you do not cooperate, then I will have to turn to your knight instead. He may not know as much as you do, but I’m sure he has enough information to answer my basic questions."
This time, Agnes remained silent.
Charlotte changed tack once again, her smile returning:
"I believe you’ve already sensed that I have no intention of killing you, at least... not for the time being."
"You do not have many choices before you. You can refuse to answer my questions, of course, and I will continue to try. Perhaps I won’t get anything from you, but you will certainly crumble under my spirit control."
"And I can still get the answers I want from your knight. After you crumble, he might continue to be controlled by me, not only completely forgetting about you, but also loyally serving as a ’knight’ for me, until he sacrifices himself for me."
After listening to Charlotte’s words, Agnes’s eyes widened, glaring at Charlotte angrily:
"How dare you!"
"Of course I dare."
Charlotte sipped her tea and said lightly.
She continued, her tone switching as she spoke in a cheery manner:
"Of course, you have another option."
"You could willingly tell me everything I want to know, and I can guarantee that I won’t lay a hand on your knight. Perhaps for you, there might still be a chance for a turnaround."
"Other than that, you have no other choice."
Agnes stared blankly at Charlotte, teeth clenched, her expression angry:
"Devil! You’re truly a devil!"
"Thank you for your compliment."
Charlotte smiled slightly, her small canine teeth showing, her innocent and delightful demeanor reminiscent of a little devil with two horns.
"So... what is your response to this devil’s proposal?"
She spoke with a smile.
Agnes continued to glare furiously at Charlotte.
But soon, she was defeated by those golden-red eyes and suddenly deflated, seemingly drained of all her strength. She lowered her head slightly, and with lips pursed, she said:
"It was Count Hall, a Shedite of the fourth generation, who turned me into a Bloodline. I was captured by him eighteen years ago and transformed."
Good heavens, eighteen years ago!
Her true age must be at least in her thirties or forties?!
Charlotte’s eyes twitched.
The Book Spirit’s sense of time was sporadic and of limited reference value; this was her first exact knowledge of when Agnes had become a Bloodline.
But... Shedite, huh.
It seemed not everyone in the Dark Bloodline was a lunatic despised by other Bloodlines like those of the Blood Demon Church.
"And then? You killed Count Hall and impersonated his identity with your knight?"
Charlotte asked.
Agnes glanced at the Book Spirit behind Charlotte:
"It told you, didn’t it? If you already know everything, why bother asking me?"
"It’s just a confirmation."
Charlotte sipped her tea and continued to inquire:
"Where did all the Mithril that Count Hall collected get transported to?"
"Mithril? What Mithril?"
Agnes looked utterly bewildered.
Charlotte frowned.
This guy... they’ve been impersonating Count Hall for so long and they didn’t know about the Secret Silver Mine?
"Do you not know what Count Hall has been up to?"
She asked.
"How would I know? I only know that he and his Bloodline acquaintances seem to be up to something big, but the specifics are unclear to me. It’s only been two and a half years since I killed him and gained my freedom!"
Agnes shook her head.
Two and a half years?
So, was it the real Count Hall who managed the Returning Star United Commerce back then?
Charlotte furrowed her brow.
"Wait... Mithril? Secret Silver Mine? Castel Mining Workshop?! Was the workshop referring to this?"
Agnes suddenly widened her eyes as if realizing something.
Charlotte: ...
She suddenly felt that the girl in front of her might know even less than she, the actual victim, did...
This was truly outrageous; impersonating Count Hall for two and a half years and not getting into the enemy’s inner circle?!
The real Count Hall had been dead for two and a half years, meaning the Returning Star United Commerce had been without management for two years.
However, investigations into the Mining Workshop showed that the Bloodline’s plans hadn’t been interrupted in these two and a half years, and the business was still operating normally.
This was way off the mark!
After two and a half years under these circumstances, hadn’t the Nais Clan noticed something was wrong with Count Hall?
"Two and a half years... and you haven’t figured out what Count Hall has been doing?"
She couldn’t help but comment sarcastically.
"We’d have to dare to! Every one of those Bloodline members at the meetings exudes a stronger presence than the last. We’re already struggling with our disguises; how could we dare to pry into what they’re really up to?"
Agnes complained.
A meeting?
Each with a stronger presence than the last?
Charlotte’s heart skipped a beat.
"A meeting?"
Charlotte raised her voice.
Agnes pursed her lips, seemingly reluctant to divulge, but faced with Charlotte’s profound gaze, she eventually spoke up honestly:
"It’s a remote meeting through Crystal Ball projections. There are quite a few Bloodline members present, and I only know that they have accents from the Falling Star Kingdom, they’re Bloodline from the Falling Star Kingdom."
"Do you know their specific identities?"
Charlotte asked.
Agnes thought for a moment and said:
"They rarely mention each other’s identity, they seem quite familiar with one another, however... I remember three names, they should be the highest-ranking among them: Count Yulster, Count of Nottingham, and Lachlan Count."
Goodness gracious! Three counts?!
Charlotte’s heart leapt.
These three names were not unfamiliar to her, as she had seen them in the information provided by the Prophetic Witch, Anna.
Yulster, Nottingham, Lachlan—three location names in the Falling Star Kingdom, also representing three counts of the Nais Clan, the Blood Counts!
The Bloodline members targeting the Castel Domain actually amounted to three Blazing Suns!
That doesn’t even count Count Hall, whom Agnes had cunningly killed!
Frankly, Charlotte was quite curious as to how this Bloodline girl, who didn’t even possess a Silver Moon, managed to kill a Blazing Sun.
And Agnes, while recalling, continued:
"Among those three counts, Count Yulster seems to hold the highest position; he is almost always the one summoning meetings..."
"Oh, right, they also often mentioned ’Duke,’ who should be the real mastermind behind the scenes, though... the ’Duke’ has never attended the projection meetings; it’s always Count Yulster relaying messages."
Duke... Duke?!
Charlotte’s eyes twitched.
Within Bloodline society, the only ones called Duke were the Blood Dukes.
And the Blood Duke corresponded to the Transcendent Rank of Fourth Tier—Legendary!
That was a truly high-level figure within the Bloodline, at least of elder status, possibly even a Clan Leader!
Contemplating this, Charlotte’s heart sank.
The infiltration of the Nais Clan into the Castel proved to be orchestrated by a Bloodline of Duke-status!
"Now... you see why we struggled so much to keep our identities hidden, right? In such a situation, we wish we could just be invisible, let alone investigating what they’re really up to!"
Agnes said meekly.
