Chapter 729: Battlefield 670 II
Li Chengyi, watching from behind, felt a wordless discomfort in his heart.
The imposing walls of Silver City, which had boosted his pride, now rapidly plummeted in his esteem at this moment.
"Cows for sale! Cows that replenish blood, mana, True Yuan, immortal power, vitality, and much more; compatible with all sorts of techniques available on the market, we have all kinds of cows! Come take a look if you want to buy. They’re all great tonics."
"Freshly collected battle loot crates, one star coin each, non-negotiable! Hurry up, once sold out, no more stock will be available!"
"Rare materials on sale for a fracture of the price!! Closing stand promptly at nine tonight; be quick or miss out! Come check them out!!"
"Second-hand damaged spaceships, two for one star coin, fair deal for young and old!"
One after another, the Tian Ju Pavilion disciples setting up their stalls appeared along both sides of the corridor, against the walls.
The crowd in the middle of the corridor, awaiting inspection, naturally split off, drifting leisurely towards the stalls on both sides.
"Shall we take a look? It’s all junk from the battlefield, but sometimes you can find something good in the trash—it all depends on your vision," Qing Ming said with a smile.
"Forget it, let’s hurry and find Brother Lan Meng," Li Chengyi said, shaking his head with a strange expression.
"Good choice. The main battlefield here is opposed by the Void Sect; there aren’t many good things."
The two immediately stopped talking and accelerated, leaping forward.
Streams of inspection light swept over the pair. Thanks to their identities as disciples of Tian Xuanzi, they needed not slow down at all and quickly traversed the lengthy corridor stretching thousands of kilometers.
On the other side of the city wall was the equally vast and dark expanse of the Black Sea Void.
At least on the previous side, a few blind spots could be seen floating around, but here, not a single blind spot was visible.
The combatants flying out of the city wall exit turned into curved beams of light, shooting rapidly into the dark distance.
They were like streaks of colored light shining into the darkness.
The two had just emerged from the exit.
When they heard a shrill voice calling out from the right.
"Over here, over here!"
A towering Black Bull wearing dark heavy Armor and wielding a giant battle-axe was waving vigorously at them with one hand.
Contrary to his strong and imposing appearance, was a childlike soft and cute female voice.
The over five-meter tall Black Bull continued to call out.
"This way, come here."
Qing Ming’s mouth twitched, but still, he led Li Chengyi to approach the calling figure.
The two sides exchanged greetings with clasped fists.
"I am Black Bull, sent by Master Lan Meng to meet Brother Bai Lu. You two can just follow me," the bull-headed figure explained in a delicate voice.
"I won’t join, I have other matters and need to return," Qing Ming quickly added, giving Li Chengyi a pat on the shoulder. "Disciple, take care."
"Thank you, Brother, for protecting me all this way!" Li Chengyi immediately responded.
"Don’t mention it, just remember, if you encounter Omniscient, run immediately; with the others, first test your strength, and don’t act rashly or penetrate too deep in one breath," Qing Ming cautioned.
"Understood."
Li Chengyi nodded earnestly.
Only then did Qing Ming turn with satisfaction and, transforming into a flash of dark light, disappeared from sight.
Leaving Black Bull and Li Chengyi to watch until he was completely gone, they then turned and flew toward the deeper parts of the Black Sea.
"From this point on, we need to be careful. Members of the Void Sect have extremely high stealth capabilities and often infiltrate this area to attack. All their attacks carry a toxin that can corrode anything and turn it into complete void. If Brother, your regenerative abilities aren’t strong enough, I would advise against engaging them in close combat," the Black Bull said while explaining on the way.
"Isn’t a robust body enough?" Li Chengyi frowned.
"At least those on the level of a Saint can manage. Those who can’t regenerate from a drop of blood would do best to stay back from the battlefront and attack from a distance or use decoys," replied Black Bull.
They hadn’t flown far when suddenly, a patch of dark fog appeared in the void ahead.
The fog appeared like it had instantly moved through Flash Appearance, not visible one second and then materializing the next.
As the mist dispersed, a large swarm of red-eyed monsters clad in ragged clothes formed of black fog was revealed.
The monsters, wielding a variety of ancient weapons, upon seeing Black Bull and Li Chengyi, rushed towards them.
Hisss!
The billows of black fog previously spread out turned into ropes, reaching from the front in a fan shape towards the pair, attempting to entangle them.
"They’re Mist Spirits! Be careful not to let them touch you!" Black Bull swung his giant axe vigorously forward, and a large gust of black wind blew out.
The black wind transformed into numerous black spikes, densely covering a wide area and enveloping all the red-eyed monsters within.
With the concentrated sound of piercing following, silence soon prevailed.
The Mist Spirits vanished completely.
"These Mist Spirits are just the lowest-level scouts of the Void Sect. Anyone with a Third Seal or higher can easily handle them. The only thing to look out for is their toxin; if those below the rank of Saints are exposed, they’ll have to return to Silver City for treatment," Black Bull explained.
"Thank you," Li Chengyi nodded.
Watching as the other side put away the giant axe, they continued forward, with Li Chengyi following behind.
Along the way, they encountered two more groups of Mist Spirits, all dispatched by Black Bull.
As they continued ahead, the void around them gradually began to resonate with a complex noise of hubbub.
The cacophony was a blend of countless discordant sounds: roars, shrieks, insane screams, clashing weapons, explosions, and the slicing of flesh and wood among others.
"We’re getting close to the battlefield. Be careful," Black Bull warned.
Li Chengyi didn’t need a reminder to see the scene that was unfolding before them.
An ocean of rainbow-colored specks roiled in opposition to an equally massive black sea.
The black color should not have been so conspicuous, yet within it, the myriad monstrous forms were starkly distinct.
Their shapes were bizarre, but all were controlled by a central body of darkness with red eyes.
There were the Fog Spirits they had encountered before, huge Cutlass Skeletons made wholly of bone, and pitch-black shadow dragons spewing dragon breath. But even more were shapeless masses with numerous black limbs jutting out all over.
A single glance by Li Chengyi could hardly discern their number.
The monsters in the black sea crowded and rushed madly forward, using their bodies to block the myriad attacks coming from the front.
Everyone from Tian Ju Pavilion was cloaked in a faint iridescence, marking their allegiance.
This sheen of color seemed to provide temporary immunity to the Void poison, allowing them to split and engage in close combat.
In the midst of both armies, massive warships and fortresses floated silently, emitting rings of black mist and rainbow light.
"This way, our Master is here," said Black Bull, veering right and flying faster.
Li Chengyi retracted his gaze and hurried after him.
Just a light sweep with his consciousness made it apparent. In the distant fray, indeed, all were powerful beings beyond the Third Seal.
Among them, some even bore the Ten Seals.
Around the floating fortresses, bands of Divine Fire Powerhouses were marshalling and continuously unleashing vast swathes of long-range rainbow magic.
The Saints in the rear, donning dark gold Armor that amplified their physique and Consciousness Power, and wielding gigantic spike-covered shields that could cover their whole bodies, seemed to be used as heavy assault units.
"Although this is Tian Ju Pavilion’s main defensive line, the Lian City Association and many smaller factions have joined us to combat the Mother of the Void."
Black Bull led the way, flickering a few times as he flew.
Eventually, they arrived in front of a fortress as grand as a silver Taoist temple.
The temple fortress continuously emitted rainbow halos, obviously functioning as a war-time Force Field Generator.
A group of Taoists in Tian Ju Pavilion robes stepped forward to inspect the two visitors’ identities.
After verifying their tokens, the pair accelerated and flew into the temple from behind.
Passing through several heavily guarded black corridors, they eventually entered the core grand hall of the temple after traversing thousands of kilometers.
A massive Yin-Yang Tai Chi Diagram spun continuously beneath their feet in black and white.
Above them was an infinite expanse of blinding rainbow light, too brilliant to look at directly.
The walls surrounding the grand hall were embedded with majestic silver alchemical furnaces.
In each furnace, rainbow flames could be seen burning.
Around them, eight furnaces revolved in the opposite direction of the central Tai Chi Diagram.
Beyond that, strong pig-headed beings with dark skin and no clothing were endlessly transporting unknown materials along built-in inclined paths in the walls, dumping them into the furnaces to be incinerated.
"Black Bull, greetings to Master!" At this moment, Black Bull stopped in the middle of the Tai Chi Diagram and respectfully saluted towards the sky above.
Li Chengyi squinted and looked up as well.
The blinding light above dimmed slightly in his eyes, layer by layer, until the intensity had reduced to a bearable level. Only then could he clearly see what floated above them.
It was a huge, fat figure constructed from countless rainbow bubbles.
The fat guy sat cross-legged on an equally large chair with a high back, floating in the air. His kindly face smiled benevolently, watching down on Black Bull and Li Chengyi.
His body, along with the chair, occupied the entire ceiling of the temple, and the diameter of the grand hall’s floor was at least three hundred meters.
Furthermore, similar to the Four Elders of Heaven’s Harvest, eight slender white jade-colored spider legs extended behind the fat man, piercing into the void and continuously extracting clumps of colorful material, which were fed into his belly button.
The belly button featured a black mouth full of serrated teeth, relentlessly chewing whatever material was fed into it.
"Ah... the scent of home..." The fat man took a deep breath.
Rip.
Suddenly.
His big round head, previously smooth on top, bulged out countless flesh buns.
The flesh buns each grew a face identical to the fat man’s own, emitting sounds of bliss.
"It truly is the scent of home..."
"I smell it too."
"And I too..."
"How long has it been since we’ve been back?"
"I can’t remember... It’s been too long... Our current selves, if we were to return, the whole world couldn’t bear it..."
"It’s a pity we can no longer split our spirit..."
Li Chengyi watched the scene below him, goosebumps threatening to break out all over his body.
A nine-headed squirrel with the body of a deer and the tail of a snake surged out behind him. The disgust was so intense that he almost materialized his true form.
"Ever since the Master reached Omniscience and tried to converge all his past, present, and future selves, something went wrong... so..." Black Bull carefully explained. "But don’t worry, they’re all the Master. It’s just that each one is from a different period."
