Chapter 673: 618 is approaching 2

"Don’t worry, that won’t happen. When the time comes, I’ll introduce you to my master, his Fierce Tiger Fist is incredibly powerful and frighteningly explosive. It’s also quite famous within our Federation, ranking in the top ten." Kui reminisced about his years of training within the sect, a warm hint of nostalgia rising in his eyes.

"How long until the league starts?" Li Chengyi asked.

"In one month. Haven’t I told you?" Kui replied, puzzled.

"Isn’t there a preliminary round of selections?"

"..." Kui fell silent...

"It seems, there is a preliminary..." The warmth in his eyes vanished instantly.

"How much longer until the preliminaries?"

"Five days... in five days."

Suddenly, a man and a squirrel fell into silence.

"Run!" Kui suddenly grabbed Li Chengyi and started sprinting down the highway.

Just five days to make it to the city where the preliminaries were gathered, to book flight tickets, any delay could mean missing the competition due to not making it in time.

Biqiu City Gymnasium, one of the fifteen preliminary venues for the Tumeng Federation’s international competition.

Li Chengyi followed behind Kui, scanning the entire venue.

The swarm of competitors crowded at the registration points, each pushing forward, trying to get a better spot in line.

No order, no queuing, any desired order had to be fought for.

Strength was the primary criterion dictating one’s place in line here.

In the vast gymnasium, at least hundreds packed in front of the three registration booths.

Hundreds of muscular men and women with tough expressions huddled together, mixing sweat, curses, and the air filled with tense and volatile elements.

But none of this mattered much to Li Chengyi.

From the moment he entered the gymnasium, he had caught the gaze of numerous contestants.

"A... a squirrel!?"

"Oh my god... it really is a squirrel! Look at its muscles! They’re even more developed than mine!"

"A black bear, a chinchilla, and now a squirrel... this international competition is really getting interesting..."

"Chinchilla Linda fights to secure a habitat exclusively for her clan; she is the strongest creature in the mountain range where her clan resides. After slaughtering the former rulers, the Plateau Wolf Pack, she signed a deal with the local government that recognizes their exclusive right to the land if she places within the top ten in the competition."

A large, well-built man with dyed red hair and wearing red gemstone earrings, holding a lady’s cigarette, looked at the entering Li Chengyi and company with an affected pose.

"Black Bear Chen Jianying sought mastery in martial arts to stand against the King of Grey Bears, the one that killed his parents; he became famous after killing Nadan, the King of Grey Bears."

The redhead exhaled a smoke ring, eyes still on Li Chengyi.

"Just wondering what this squirrel is here for, participating in this competition."

"There are many animal martial artists taking part in these competitions, but only a few truly succeed," commented a man with a buzz cut standing nearby in a low voice. "There’s nothing to care about."

"What my senior brother says is true," nodded the redhead. "Our Feiyun Temple’s Chi Xiao Palm is the strongest! This competition is the time for us to shine."

Since humanity claimed absolute dominance hundreds of years ago, the rest of the animal clans struggled to survive in the shadow of mankind, even the mightiest White Bear Clan had to retreat to the poles. Just a squirrel, probably won’t cause much of a stir.

Kui easily signed up Li Chengyi, and then they proceeded to the waiting area to rest, awaiting the initial screening.

"That’s it? Don’t you need proof of identity?" Li Chengyi asked in surprise.

"Not necessary. These competitions don’t restrict casualties; taking someone else’s place on stage can lead to death. Who would dare?" said Kui casually.

"Makes sense," Li Chengyi nodded, looking around. He spotted a comfortable-looking lounge chair and walked over to it.

A bald, husky man was sitting on the chair, daintily licking a creamy ice cream.

Smack.

Li Chengyi slapped the ice cream out of his hand onto the ground.

"This chair, I’m taking it."

He stepped in front of the man, his tall, imposing figure casting a shadow over his face.

"..." The bald man looked at his ice cream that was now on the ground, and then back at Li Chengyi.

"My ice creeeaammm!!!" he explosively leapt to his feet, lunging at Li Chengyi in a bear hug.

His thick arms locked around Li Chengyi’s shoulders like iron clamps.

"You dare!!"

"Dare to mess with my ice cream, Morrison’s ice cream!!"

"I’ll tear you apart, shred by shred, and feed you to the dogs!!"

"Savage Slam!!" The bald man was clearly from a reputable school, his move executed with perfect wrestling technique; his hands clamped on Li Chengyi’s shoulders while his legs swept around, leveraging from top and bottom.

At that moment, a wave-like, roaring force fiercely struck Li Chengyi.

Boom!!

A muffled collision erupted from where the two clashed.

The bald man’s right leg hit Li Chengyi’s left with a thud.

At this point, everyone nearby shifted their gaze to them. Conflicts like this were common in the gymnasium, so observing them became a way for everyone to gauge the strength of potential future rivals.

Kui too was shocked, not having expected Li Chengyi to so brazenly seize the chair right off the bat. Seeing the bald man’s skilled take on wrestling, and that he was no weakling, Kui immediately grew somewhat concerned for Li Chengyi.

After all, Li Chengyi was just a squirrel. Albeit a strong one.

But...

What he didn’t anticipate was...

The bald man’s grip on Li Chengyi stayed fixed, both of them standing motionless.

Yes.

Motionless.

Bald Head remained motionless, and so did Li Chengyi.

"Heh... are you trying to give me a massage?" Li Chengyi said, arms folded across his strong chest that rose and fell slightly with his breath. His shiny, triangular eyes, full of intense mockery, watched Bald Head in front of him.

"Maybe you should put in all the effort you used when you were sucking milk, might make me a bit more excited."

Bald Head’s complexion turned red with disbelief...

His entire body seemed to bleed out, flush with rage, his muscles bulging even larger.

"You son of a...!!!"

He channeled all his strength in a frenzy, his one-meter-eight frame seemingly larger than Li Chengyi’s, towering over him.

"Poseidon’s Infinite Killing Spree!!"

He roared, his moves exploding before his voice did, charging with a shoulder block that hit Li Chengyi in the waist and hoisted him upwards.

But in that instant.

A massive grey shadow brutally struck him from the side.

Bang!!!

With the force of a bear pouncing, Giant Strength fiercely slammed into Bald Head’s side, sending him flying to the left.

In a series of impacts, Bald Head cried out in pain as he smashed through two sets of tables and chairs, knocked down several competitors, and then was stopped by a flamboyant redhead pierced with ear studs, fortunately preventing him from crashing into the sharp blades on the wall rack at the edge of the gymnasium.

Li Chengyi felt much better as the impacts digested a good deal of the side effects within his body.

The exchange just now had digested about one-fifteenth of it; had Bald Head been a bit stronger, he would’ve digested it even faster.

"Pathetic." He sneered coldly, sat down on a lounge chair, propped up his legs in a casual position, deliberately making himself an infuriating target.

What he needed was constant combat and strikes; only then could the side effects within his body be digested.

The stronger the strike, the faster his digestion.

He had divided the second phase of enhancement into three parts, and upon completion, he could enter the third phase of enhancement.

Now at the start of the first part of the second phase, his strength had already reached the level of King of Grey Bears.

And the constant throbbing and swelling agony in his flesh and blood made him truly aware of the terror of Eternal Vitality.

Thus, he needed endless battles, endless opponents.

Closing his eyes, he crossed his arms.

Suddenly, a sharp gaze shot towards him from not far away within his awareness.

Li Chengyi opened his eyes and looked back.

It was the same redhead who had intervened to stop Bald Head.

"What, you have a problem, ’half-man, half-beast’?"

The redhead’s muscles tensed fiercely, an evil fire surging from the depths of his heart.

"You motherf...!" He had never seen someone with such a filthy mouth... no, that guy wasn’t human.

Suppressing the bulging vein on his forehead, he forced a smile.

"Alright, I’ll see you on the stage later."

He raised his middle finger.

"My name is Luo Ting. I’m a practitioner of Chi Xiao Palm from Feiyun Temple!"

"Rules are made to restrain the weak," Li Chengyi said indifferently. "Are you announcing your sect in hopes of scaring your opponent with your background?"

"Keep running your mouth for now, Squirrel Boy," Luo Ting said coldly. "Later on, I’ll tear that tail off your back and make a shawl out of it!"

"Why wait? Come at me right now," Li Chengyi stood up, pointing to his chest.

"I’ll stand right here. Come on, punch here. I won’t fight back, I’ll let you have three moves!"

"You!!?" Luo Ting’s face started to redden as well.

"Come on, silverfish. Use all your power! Let’s see if sucking milk left you with any strength," Li Chengyi taunted.

The competitors around began to agitate, provoked by Li Chengyi’s arrogance, stirring amongst themselves.

If not for the terrifying tail sweep that had knocked Bald Head unconscious, it was likely that someone would have already charged forward.

"Beat him!! Kill him!!"

"Feiyun Temple is a prestigious sect of the Federation. Kill him! How dare he insult a Chi Xiao Palm practitioner!!"

"Go for it, Brother Luo!!"

The cheering around rose wave after wave, and the gym slowly became a hotbed of agitation.

"All you can do is shout, a bunch of worms!" Li Chengyi said with a smirk. "Come and hit me. Quick! You’re all trash anyway, I’ll let you come at me together."

He mocked, pointing to his chest with unrestrained taunts.

Kui, sweating profusely, finally couldn’t stand it anymore. Without waiting for the others to react, he quickly approached Li Chengyi and dragged him away.

"Fucking hit him!!"

"Kill the Squirrel People!!"

"Finish off that freak!!"

This jerk away seemed like poking a hornet’s nest, as the competitors around surged forward, racing towards the pair.

Kui wordlessly dragged Li Chengyi out of the gym and ran a good distance before they shook off the competitors chasing them.

Back at the hotel, he let go of Li Chengyi, face still covered in cold sweat.

"Xiao Hui, couldn’t you have kept your mouth shut for once!?"

"Kui, you’re too weak," Li Chengyi said, not bothering to explain but simply walking over to the window.

"Strength is only enhanced through combat. They are too weak, instead of letting them face life and death on stage, it’s better for me to eliminate them in the beginning and save their lives."

Of course, he wouldn’t reveal that he needed to digest Eternal Vitality and absorb Evil Thoughts.

"But you went too far," Kui said speechlessly.

"Too far? I’m a Squirrel. I know nothing," Li Chengyi responded indifferently. "I only know, why should the strong yield to the weak?"

Kui looked at him, speechless and unable to counter.
