Chapter 652: 600 Worlds 4
Old Buck coughed and hastened toward the three-story library.
After passing through two corridors and four rooms, he rapidly reached the largest room on the third floor.
This was the library, or more precisely, the transformed library.
Baron Carlos had converted the original third-floor parlor into a vast library to house his collected books from all over.
The domain’s finances, apart from the daily expenses, were all spent here.
Merchants even established a team specifically to collect books for Baron Carlos, simply to earn the substantial annual spending on books.
Because of this, the domain no longer had funds for military expansion and could only maintain the basics.
Thinking of this, Old Buck felt a wave of exhaustion.
Arriving in front of the library, he saw the doors half open and spotted Carlos seated behind the desk at first glance.
This fifteen-year-old young baron was now broad-shouldered and well-proportioned, his smooth black hair hanging to his lower back, simply tied with a hairband. He wore a heavy, silver armor that protected the vital joints at all times.
The family crest on the splendid armor shone brightly in the candlelight, a majestic and beautiful stag.
This was the new crest of the Okra family, forcibly changed by Carlos and announced to the Empire.
Family crests were typically designed and registered only once at the time of creation. It was a tradition, an ancestral legacy, and few chose to alter it.
But Carlos did just that, as he flagrantly enacted his decree with no regard for tradition and provided no response to inquiries from the Empire’s noble Senate, a body without real power.
Aside from the Senate, other power-wielding nobles wouldn’t bother to make an issue over such a trifle with a domain noble.
Standing outside the library, Old Buck observed Carlos, who emitted an indescribable oppressive aura even just by sitting there.
His clean and handsome face flipped through books with a detached air, his robust body encased in armor, exuding the spirit of a newly matured lion.
’I heard he has started one-to-many training on the school grounds... even Milton must join forces with several soldiers just to put pressure on him...’ Upon thinking of this, a sense of relief surged through Old Buck.
Such valor had already assured the firm seat of Black Castle as the ruler of the domain.
"Is it Uncle Buck? Please come in,"
At this moment, Li Chengyi inside the library seemed to have noticed Old Buck standing at the door for so long and spoke up after putting down his book.
At fifteen, his strength had already far surpassed the limit of a Knight and entered a new level.
However, what frustrated him was no matter how much he trained, his physical capabilities stalled at a point equivalent to six point seven times that of a Milton Knight and refused to improve any further.
It seemed to be the ultimate limit of flesh and blood in this world.
Even using the Flower Language Technique to enhance himself was in vain.
Therefore, for his own safety, he had a full set of heavy armor, long-handled weapons, and a large shield custom-made.
And to boost his own power, he once again began collecting information about Mages.
Over the years, he had read a vast array of various books.
The image of a Mage became increasingly clear in his mind.
"Uncle Buck, you’ve come so early. Is there something you need?" Li Chengyi stood up and asked.
"My lord, Viscount Tislan has sent an invitation. It is for the coming-of-age salon. As you know, we are nominally subordinate nobles under his command, and we must give this face. Otherwise, we might be perceived as defiant to our superior, potentially targeted by Viscount Tislan’s Territory, or even become adversaries," Old Buck replied, his health seemingly improving recently. The previous illness appeared to be fading away, and even the aging of his body had slowed down significantly.
This allowed him to serve the domain with renewed energy, and his mood was much lighter.
"I understand. Do I need to make time to attend?" Li Chengyi nodded.
"Yes, they specifically mentioned hoping for your personal attendance; it’s quite an honor," Old Buck said with a smile.
Since the passing of the previous baron, the Okra Domain hadn’t received such respect in a long time.
Though he was well aware that they probably invited him because of the Baron’s handsome face; after all, the salon was ostensibly a coming-of-age celebration, but implicitly it was also about finding husbands for Viscount Tislan’s two daughters.
"Okay, I will go," Li Chengyi took the invitation and glanced at the time, "It’s just right—the book I’m currently reading will be finished soon. I heard that Viscount Tislan’s Territory maintains the services of a Mage. Perhaps I could seek some advice."
Old Buck listened with a bit of helplessness.
Carlos was excellent in all respects, except his incomprehensible pursuit of becoming a Mage.
"That’s good... Well then, I won’t disturb you any longer..." He bowed and prepared to leave.
"Oh, Uncle Buck, did mother go to Lady Lisa’s house again?" Li Chengyi suddenly asked.
Recently, Melissa often liked to visit Lady Lisa, who was a well-known socialite in the neighboring domains.
"Rest assured, the old madam mainly went for the music concert," Old Buck responded.
"That’s good," Li Chengyi nodded.
Watching the other person bow again and leave the room, he sat down, pulled open a drawer, and took out an aged diary to read once more.
This was a special personal diary given to him some days ago by a friend.
It detailed the account of a low-level traveling Mage named Andrelen. Though it contained no meditation techniques for cultivation, it involved quite a bit of information about Mages.
