Chapter 601: Heartbeat 3

Chapter 601: Heartbeat 3

Outside Ludian City.

Two figures dressed in white priestly vestments stood on a higher peak, overlooking the entire city district.

Priestly vestments were a type of simple attire with long sleeves and pants that tapered at the ends, featuring specific Deity logos on the chest and back, along with codes representing their rank and positions within the theocratic country.

Paired with golden and silver thread patterns symbolizing the supreme authority of the Godly power, the overall appearance was simple yet luxurious, exuding a sense of sanctity.

"Knight Commander Ma En, is this the destination we are to reach this time?" a female knight standing slightly behind asked in a low voice.

"Yes, two priests from the Divine Tribunal disappeared here. The Sunlight Council struck, and even though we have undercover agents, there was no trace left, not even a chance to issue a divine warning. Thus, the culprit must be someone else," the robust male knight closer to the front said in a deep voice.

He sported a neat mustache, eyes full of determination, and his skin bore a darkened hue, the hallmark of prolonged exposure to sunlight, signifying countless hours of training and combat under the sun.

"Let’s move. The position of the heretical prophecy has been pinpointed; next is to find it quickly, solve the issue, and then retreat. We must be fast, to avoid alerting the Council," he continued.

The Sunlight Council and the White Praise were engaged in large-scale warfare. Delving deep into enemy territory for a strike meant they couldn’t afford to make too much noise. Otherwise, the masters and experts of the Council would not miss the chance to capture the two Golden Knights.

At the Golden Level, whether in the Council or the White Praise, they were considered absolutely superior fighters.

They moved like the wind and possessed the power to single-handedly destroy a small town. Endowed with divine power, ordinary mortal weapons had minimal effect on them.

Only damage from Silver Tier and above could pose a threat to their rank.

All Golden Level warriors had a resistance that reduced the effectiveness of mortal weapons by thirty percent.

This reduction, combined with their hefty armor, their physically robust bodies tempered through countless battles, and the powerful divine arts granted by different Deities, made them formidable, invulnerable moving fortresses.

"Let’s go, Evnie. We must complete the mission within one hour; any longer and we will certainly be discovered by the Council’s prophetic techniques," he said.

With that, Knight Commander Ma En took a step forward, suddenly vanishing into thin air.

"Understood," the female knight replied softly, following suit and disappearing from the top of the peak.

The direction they headed for was precisely the detective agency where Tom was.

Thousands of kilometers away.

Above a vast, pale red ocean, Li Chengyi floated in the air, holding a slender Golden Sword Blade that was three meters long, surveying the waters below.

The sea breeze whipped his black coat and pulled at his silvery-white hair that reached his back.

Below him, on the sea’s surface, a giant octopus with a body length of several hundred meters was floating, covered in wounds and barely clinging to life.

"My name is Poroduro, I willingly submit to you, please may I inquire as to your esteemed name!?" The octopus’s head was covered with countless tiny, dense purple and black eyes, staring up at Li Chengyi in the sky.

"You may call me Bai Lu," Li Chengyi used the monastic title from his Tianju Pavilion Sect.

"Yes, mighty King Bai Lu," the giant octopus, also a Demigod, submitted willingly after undergoing a brief test of strength, deciding to pledge fealty to Li Chengyi.

This time without using the Flower Language Technique, Li Chengyi simply left his own seed in the creature’s mind.

"Go rest and heal. I will summon you when needed," Li Chengyi said casually.

He slightly raised his eyes towards the distance.

A soon-to-be-complete Human-Faced Spirit Sword within his Primordial Spirit Sword Palace was currently trembling slightly, emitting a faint warning hum.

"It seems an uninvited guest has stealthily entered my domain..."

Li Chengyi glanced at Budouna in the distance, and with a flicker of black light, appeared beside her.

After extending the distance of Shadow Flash, despite still having a brief activation time, it could already catch others off guard on first use, likely causing a surprising initial strike.

"Come with me back, someone is here," he said, extending his hand.

Budouna obediently stepped forward, grasping his arm.

The long-range Shadow Leap activated.

Soon, the two disappeared above the vast sea.

With a shift and transport through space, by the time they emerged, they were already above Ludian City. An invisible shadow enveloped them, causing them to vanish in the blink of an eye as they Shadow Flashed to the city district below.

Right below was Tom’s detective agency.

As a soon-to-form new Origin Seal and excellent "crop," Li Chengyi certainly wouldn’t let it face danger at such a critical time.

Just then, in front of the detective agency, two large figures clad in white attire were quickly approaching the shop.

Suddenly, a green figure flashed, blocking their path.

The newcomer, clad in an exquisite green dress with a slender waist and waist-length green hair, had eyes like top-quality emeralds.

It was Budouna, who had just hurried back from outside.

"Stop right there."

She looked at the two men sternly.

"Hmm?" A Gold Level!?

Ma En and his companion looked up, not expecting the person behind the scenes to appear so quickly.

"Was it you?" Ma En immediately spoke, questioning with a divine technique that instantly activated to intimidate the other’s spirit.

The technique invoked a hint of Divine Intention, which descended upon Budouna instantly, assaulting her mind.

A wave of dizziness passed through her consciousness, and by the time Budouna regained her senses, she was no longer in the city but suspended over a desolate and uninhabited dark land.

’Exile space!?’ It was a special battle space commonly used by the theocratic countries in Anze, empty and desolate, utilized as a communal blind spot space for all Church Group conflicts.

When in crowded places, someone would open a space to transfer the battlefield.

"This suits me just fine." As a Golden Level powerhouse capable of fighting a Demigod for a short period, Budouna let out an angry roar, her body suddenly lurching forward, her right arm transforming into a dragon’s claw, reaching out through the air towards the two men.

The air compressed, the immense force bringing about an explosive velocity more than twice the speed of sound, bursting forth with a sonic boom that scattered a white vapor ring in mid-air.

"The holiness of white!" Ma En took the initiative without hesitation, his hands instantly condensing a white broad-bladed greatsword, slashing forward.

Clang!!

His entire body was blown backward by the tremendous force, crashing down into the black, desolate ground.

He carved a crater dozens of meters wide amidst the rocks.

The gap in strength was clearly too great.

Ma En shot upward, his body igniting with pure white holy flames, yet he seemed to sustain little injury.

"It’s that damn Pure White Holy Power Technique again!" Budouna’s eyes flashed with extreme disgust.

The divine technique of the White Praise, the Pure White Holy Power, could maintain the user’s peak state for a certain period of time and reduce all damage by fifty percent.

All damage, not just physical attacks.

This was a short-duration divine technique modeled after demigod resistances. Although it could only last half an hour and Golden Level warriors could use it only once a month, it was enough for one battle.

It was the battle method that the Holy Knights affiliated with the White Praise excelled at.

"Kill!!" The female knight in the rear also ignited with holy flames, deploying the Pure White Holy Power Technique, charging towards them.

In this state, they were fearless and unstoppable.

Immediately, the three clashed mid-air into a fray.

What was disgusting was that even though Budouna could overpower the two, she simply couldn’t kill them no matter how hard she fought.

Even the magic that had previously injured a demigod seemed ineffective against them.

The crystalline tendrils could only cause their holy flames to dim slightly, that’s all.

In this exiled space, Li Chengyi hid in the shadows, quietly observing the battle.

Watching as wounds continually appeared on Budouna’s body, only to heal quickly, the victory clearly belonged to her. Once the divine technique’s duration ended, the two Golden Knights were assuredly doomed.

But such a result, taking so long without being able to kill them, surprised him somewhat.

Before Budouna took action, she had confidently proclaimed that she could instantly kill the opposition, that the previous encounter with a demigod was only due to a higher rank. But most ordinary Golden Level warriors definitely shouldn’t be her match, and now...

’Such an amplification... is indeed very strong...’ Li Chengyi silently observed.

Time trickled by.

Finally, half an hour passed.

The holy flames of the two began to fade, extinguishing.

"Our Lord triumphs!!! The Pure White Light shall shine upon everything!"

The Golden female knight roared in rage, and her body exploded spectacularly.

Self-detonating mid-air, she transformed into a blinding pure white sun, illuminating the surroundings, driving away a great expanse of darkness, and radiating warmth.

Budouna, bearing the brunt of the impact, was enveloped in the grand holy light, her skin and clothing instantly vaporized, revealing the flesh and sinew beneath.

She roared furiously, yet did not reveal her true form; instead, she shrank her body into a ball as much as possible to minimize the area exposed to the light.

Unlike the female knight, the other Knight, Ma En, made a completely different move.

He seized the opportunity to raise his greatsword high, chanting something softly.

As he chanted, a series of golden inscriptions lit up on his sword, traveling along the blade’s spine up to the tip.

"Holy is my Lord! Banish the heretic from the pure heavens, unbeatable. Here I sincerely implore Your Divine Intention, cast Your gaze down here and purify the faithless adversary before me."

Ma En’s chant took a long time, a full two seconds.

Though he chanted quickly, two seconds in a battle between masters were enough to interrupt him countless times.

Budouna seemed to think so too, releasing a green dragon breath toward Ma En.

But the dragon breath was blocked by an invisible barrier at his side.

Ma En’s chanting appeared to stir some power within his greatsword, resonating together and becoming a sort of thread, sending his prayer of chant toward some boundless void.

"Damn it! It’s a Holy Artifact!!" Budouna finally realized, "These lunatics! They’re detonating a Holy Artifact in exchange for a sliver of the Pure White God’s Divine Intention descending!!"

Her face showed terror. The one who had imprisoned her in the Shadow Dragon Prison was but an Archbishop from a church group that paled in comparison to the power of the White Praise.

And now, she was facing a divine shadow of the mightiest deity about to be summoned.

Even if it was just a shadow, that was a real deity!

It was an almighty supreme being with faint divine power!!

She turned to flee but couldn’t move at all, as if she was glued, fixed in mid-air.

All she could do was watch helplessly as Ma En nearby was gradually engulfed in an intense holy aura.

His eyes began to turn pure white, a bright, blinding light emitting from within.

Behind him, a pair of wings forged from pure white light appeared.

Above his head, even a crown-shaped golden halo formed.

Whoosh!!

At the moment the crown and wings took shape, an immense pressure of spiritual consciousness crashed down around Ma En, affecting thousands of kilometers in the vicinity.

The very ground sank in unison, the air turning into gales that howled across the surroundings.

"It’s the descent of a True God!! Run!!!" Budouna finally remembered she too had a master and bellowed in terror.

"Useless thing." Li Chengyi was speechless below, no wonder she was imprisoned, she couldn’t even handle a Golden Tier Knight.
