Chapter 366 - 337 Xuan Ming Island Nine
Chapter 366: 337 Xuan Ming Island Nine
Nanzhou Ridge Park.
Two shadows slowly walked along the park path, passing by the occasional elderly stroller and couples, but it was as if no one could see them.
These two figures were like invisible men, walking silently, without leaving any trace, and even without stirring the slightest breeze as they passed by, extremely eerie.
"Communication is cut off," one of them said in a deep voice. "Brother Han, I don’t remember the intelligence indicating that the Zhao Family or Mingyuan had such strong cybersecurity capabilities?"
"They will act according to the original plan—the arrangements we’ve made are already in place, and there’s no need for us to monitor," a hoarse voice replied. "However..."
"It looks like it must be the work of Mingyuan," he paused, "Their intentions are pretty clear now. Block communications, then do whatever they want to do, pin everything on the Dragon River Assassin, and afterward, explain things to the Zhao Family, to Jiu Yi, and to the Security Bureau."
"Dragon River doesn’t have much of our information; shall we abandon it?" the other asked in a low voice.
"Let it go. It’s just an empty shell," the hoarse voice said. "We must not underestimate the Zhao Family—if they notice something is wrong, they will definitely mobilize their main forces."
"According to our investigations, the main forces of the Zhao Family are distributed in three areas: the military, Jiu Yi, and the Education Bureau. Led by the Black Phoenix Zhao Chengxi, who is a Grade Nine, they can mobilize about one-third of Jiu Yi’s manpower through their positions. Of the thirteen factions represented by The Ten Heroes of Jiu Yi, at least four are on good terms with the Zhao Family," the other explained succinctly.
"The three near-Earth orbital fortresses and the Seventh Fleet, huh? Isn’t that where the Zhao Family gets their confidence from?" the hoarse voice laughed. "The influence of the Security Bureau is actually secondary. They can’t compare to the Li Family."
"Mingyuan seems to want to exploit the gap in information lockdown the Zhao Family is experiencing to create a lag in time. They want to settle everything once and for all. What confuses me is, how can they be sure that the Zhao Family will accept the outcome? Any of The Ten Heroes can defy Destiny, while the rest are insignificant," the other said in surprise.
"Could it be that they really dare to revolt?" the hoarse voice asked.
"This has indeed become interesting; with just a slight movement of a pawn, we can witness a century’s drama..."
The two turned and walked in the direction away from Mingyuan.
In front of them at a clearing in the park, a small silver-gray flying craft, like a bird crawling on the ground, quietly revealed itself from invisibility.
"Let’s go. Since communications are blocked, we’ll go outside the blockade area directly and inform the Zhao Family of the situation.
No matter which side wins this time, as long as we wait until the end, we can profit from the chaos," the hoarse voice laughed.
"Those fools from Utopia can only fight head-on, and the Red Temple has been wasting years for nothing—a bunch of decaying things. No wonder they’ve been decimated by Jiu Yi Kill," the other laughed along.
"This is what’s called ’no good deed goes unrewarded,’" the hoarse voice chuckled lightly.
The Zhao Family is a huge entity; as long as they’re informed of the situation and mobilize their strength, no matter how outrageously Mingyuan behaves, they will surely be completely crushed.
The pillars of Jiu Yi, The Ten Heroes, each one is a powerful Grade Eight Feiyi Master, and many are even at the threshold of Grade Nine; it’s only because of limited resources that they can’t supply more of Grade Nine and have to maintain the status quo.
Such tremendous power is far beyond the reach of a mere Grade Eight outsider like Mingyuan.
Grade Eight is generally the limit that an individual can reach.
Higher Grade Nine requires not just the small amount of energy a single individual can carry but a large amount of all-around comprehensive support.
A Grade Nine consumes an amount of energy support every second that could directly supply uninterrupted electricity to a city of tens of millions of people.
And this is just the norm.
For this reason, everyone understands that once you reach Destiny, you’ve hit the ceiling.
Unless there’s a trans-era revolution in energy, the possibility of an individual crossing the Grade Eight threshold based on personal effort is virtually nonexistent.
Buzz.
The hatch of the flying craft slowly opened.
The two stepped forward at a leisurely pace.
But after only a few steps, the hoarse-voiced man suddenly stretched out his hand, stopping his companion.
The two stopped in their tracks and gazed intently at the flying vehicle.
"What’s wrong?"
The hoarse-voiced man did not answer, but instead stared fixedly at the flying vehicle, an interested smile crossing his deep blue face.
"It seems I underestimated Fengnan Province, I didn’t expect someone to approach so silently, only noticing now."
Put, put...
Suddenly, a large flock of black crows burst from the forest.
The crows flapped their wings, their red eyes flashing by, like sprinkles of rubies gently falling around the flying vehicle.
Among the flock, a dark figure with black wings slowly descended from the sky and landed on tiptoes, standing firm.
Armor, clear as a mirror, adorned with fine black dragon patterns and metallic blades for wings.
And the ferocious helmet with dragon horns protruding from it.
The armor this figure wore was so naturally perfect, it seemed as if it had grown that way, possessing a certain eerie and somber beauty.
"Who are you...?" the hoarse-voiced man asked softly.
"You’ve come to my territory, yet you still don’t recognize me?"
Li Chengyi fluttered his wings, a faint, invisible black aura emanating from his body.
"Destiny?" The hoarse-voiced man paused, the smile slowly fading from his face.
"How did you find us? The flying vehicle and all our tech equipment are operated manually, completely isolated from signals. Even the strongest hacker, without an access point, without a radiation field, couldn’t possibly detect our presence."
"That’s why I hate you lot, the little bugs skulking in the shadows... buzzing around." Li Chengyi took steps toward the other man.
"Heh... You call us bugs??" The hoarse-voiced man started laughing, with surprise, mockery, and a sense of superiority that was hard to comprehend.
"Originally I had no intention of interfering, just watching... after all, the game doesn’t always require personal participation..."
"But now... I’ve changed my mind..."
His right hand hung down, and a blue-purple curved saber slowly slid into his grip.
"I’m going to capture you and bring you back... for..."
Whirr!!
In an instant, a flash of black light and a figure appeared behind him.
His face changed dramatically, drawing his saber in a lightning-fast block.
Clang!!!
A loud bang echoed, and white vapor burst into rings.
The Golden Sword Blade struck heavily against the side of his curved saber from behind.
A massive shockwave erupted, lifting the surrounding trees and grass in rings, sweeping everything outwards from the center where the two stood, like a hurricane passing through.
The hoarse-voiced man gripped his saber with both hands, his muscles cracking under the immense force, while trickles of blood seeped from the edges of his eyes, sliding down his cheeks.
Thump.
Even through the curved saber, the force of the impact caused a slight indentation in the middle of his chest.
His robe tore open, revealing the blue skin underneath which slowly displayed a sharp sword mark.
Blood slowly seeped from the sword wound, forming beads of blood.
"The weak long for the world, the strong control it," Li Chengyi held his sword with one hand, black light flashed again, and he made another slash.
The slash brought a trail of white vapor that instantly sent another person who was pouncing from the side flying.
The sword wound continued to fly, carrying within it a multitude of spike-like Swords of Wisdom, creating white ripples that passed over a nearby flying vehicle.
Hiss!
A deep crack suddenly appeared on the surface of the flying vehicle.
The whole flying vehicle was cut in two at the waist, its internal engine flickering with uncertain light.
One second.
Two seconds.
Boom!
The flying vehicle exploded with a loud bang, orange and white flames accompanied by shockwaves and metal debris, flinging half of the nose away, crashing heavily onto a tree trunk before bending and falling to the ground.
"Now, you have no escape."
He pointed the Golden Sword at the ground, red dragon eyes quietly watching the raspy man whose eyes were bleeding.
"Destiny... Your strength... How is that possible!?" The raspy man clearly noticed that the data on the opponent differed greatly from the information he had just looked up.
How long had it been?
A month? Two months?!
The data from Sutan had become invalid in just two months?
Destiny was already Grade Eight! And Grade Eight was essentially the peak of individual strength; without the support of a nation-level entity, it was impossible to undergo a qualitative change and achieve Grade Nine.
This was the limit of the Reinforced Human and the limit of the Feiyi.
It was a fundamental leap from tactical to strategic level.
It could be said that what restricted any Grade Eight powerhouse was not their own strength or quality but their energy.
The biggest difference between Grade Eight and Grade Nine was energy.
It was not a difference of one or two times but dozens, hundreds, or even more times.
Grade Nine relied on national energy to supply themselves with equipment and weapons, making them unmatched.
While Grade Eight relied only on the small amount of battery energy they carried with them.
Therefore, after reaching Grade Eight, individuals generally stopped improving their strength and instead aimed to perfect their weaknesses in various aspects.
Because of energy limitations, the actual difference between Grade Eight powerhouses wasn’t as significant as imagined.
More differences lay in the realms of operation, tactics, and materials.
But now... What did he see??
Destiny... this guy had become much stronger than when he was analyzed in Sutan!
What in the world was this guy!!??
Distracted for a moment, the raspy man immediately heard a muffled grunt.
Another companion was caught off guard, hit by a sword once again, and a massive sonic boom broke out, exploding a wide pit several meters wide in the ground.
He lay on his back, metallic pieces shattered and scattered all over him, half of his head gone, a large hole in his chest, he was done for.
Li Chengyi released the Golden Sword, which now bore serrated cracks, and stood up from the pit.
Anger+2.
Anger+3.
Anger+2.
A dense surge of Evil Thoughts sprang forth from the two.
"Anger, huh?"
His blood-red dragon eyes looked towards the raspy man.
"Who was he to you? A relative? A friend? A disciple?"
Hiss.
The Golden Sword stabbed down, hitting the man below in the neck, piercing through the middle of his neck and into the soil.
"Want to avenge him?"
Li Chengyi slowly pulled out the sword, the friction causing a hissing sound, which made the man below convulse, and arcs of electricity surged through his body.
This guy wasn’t a pure complete being but a Reinforced Human, and if he died here, it meant complete death, and he could only rely on cloning for regeneration in the future.
Anger+2.
Anger+1.
Anger+1.
Hm? The anger actually decreased?
Li Chengyi was slightly surprised; it seemed that the opponent had calmed down.
Since provoking the other party had no effect, it was better to be direct.
Let the opponent feel despair.
It’s rare to encounter a strong man he could freely slash; he might as well enjoy it to the fullest.
Flicking off the fragments from the Golden Sword, Li Chengyi fluttered his wings, floating slowly into the air, gazing at his opponent.
"We underestimated you..." The raspy man tore off his outer robe, revealing a burly body clad in black leather armor underneath.
"Destiny... we didn’t plan to deal with you so soon, but now... since you are courting death, don’t blame me..."
Hiss, hiss...
As he spoke, plumes of white smoke began to rise from his body.
His black leather armor also quickly melted into a black liquid, covering his entire body and forming a complete set of tight black suits.
At the same time, his muscles also rapidly swelled and grew, his height increasing rapidly from two meters, climbing to three, three and a half, four meters!!
Hiss.
A pair of black spiral horns pierced out from the sides of his forehead, growing longer, standing erect behind him.
