Blind Spot
Chapter 357 - 330 Xuan Ming Island 2

Chapter 357: 330 Xuan Ming Island 2

Li Chengyi moved carefully.

At the same time, he attempted to activate the technological devices on his person.

But unfortunately, all the devices were completely unresponsive, and his phone wouldn’t even power on.

Muttering a curse under his breath, he looked up and ahead, swiftly donning the Invisible Flora Cloak.

The fusion mode could integrate the cloak’s protection with his existing equipment while remaining inconspicuous.

The effect was similar to being covered by an invisible force field.

As the sounds of footsteps continued forward, quickly,

Li Chengyi came to a halt, slowing down his pace.

Looking ahead, at the edge of a terrace, directly facing him, stood a tall humanoid figure in gray and white armor.

The armor on the figure looked very thick, with padded reinforcements at the joints, a fur collar around the neck for protection, and a helmet adorned with two rugged, uneven horns.

What caught Li Chengyi’s attention the most was the greatsword, as wide as an adult’s thigh, strapped to the figure’s back.

It seemed to have heard the footsteps.

The figure moved slightly, turning around, the dark eye holes beneath the helmet revealing nothing but pitch black.

"Hello?" Li Chengyi raised his hand and waved towards the figure, signaling his friendly intentions.

The figure remained still, watching him.

At this close proximity, Li Chengyi realized that the humanoid was actually slightly taller than him, standing at roughly two meters thirty-four.

And he also noticed... the ground around the figure’s feet was coated with a not-so-thin layer of ash...

It seemed the figure had been standing there for quite some time.

From its initial posture, it appeared as though it had been overlooking the entire city.

"Can you speak?" Li Chengyi asked, addressing the figure again.

Since the incident with Yserine, he had come to believe that not everything in the Blind Spot needed to be hostile; perhaps it was worth attempting communication first, as a successful interaction could yield rewards beyond imagination.

Click.

The figure gave no response, its hand already gripping the hilt of the greatsword on its back.

Whoosh.

It grasped the sword and stepped toward Li Chengyi.

What looked like a normal advance quickened in speed.

The distance of more than ten meters closed in the blink of an eye.

The figure raised the greatsword high and swung it down fiercely towards Li Chengyi.

A fierce whooshing filled the air as the blade chopped down towards Li Chengyi’s neck.

Clang!

The Sword of Wisdom materialized.

A transparent greatsword materialized in front of Li Chengyi, just in time to block the blade.

Typically, each manifestation of the Sword of Wisdom possessed at least one-tenth the strength of the real blade.

Yet, it had failed to repel the figure’s greatsword.

The Sword of Wisdom clashed with the greatsword in midair, seemingly being pushed back steadily.

As the two swords grappled, the armored figure in white continued to advance, its strength apparently growing!

"What’s going on?" Li Chengyi sensed something was off.

At the initial contact, the Sword of Wisdom’s strength was only slightly weaker than the opponent’s.

But as the tussle continued, the Sword of Wisdom’s force dwindled while the adversary’s grew.

Soon, it could no longer withstand the assault.

Boom!

The Sword of Wisdom shattered, and the figure’s greatsword came crashing down heavily.

Clang! The sword hit the ground as it missed its mark.

Li Chengyi took a precise step back, evading the strike.

Another Sword of Wisdom emerged, slicing towards the armored figure from behind.

This blade was silent and unsuspected.

The figure in white armor did not block, or rather, did not attempt to; it continued charging at Li Chengyi.

The sword struck the figure’s backplate with a heavy thud.

No harm done.

The Sword of Wisdom barely left a faint white mark on the figure’s armor.

’Is it that hard?’ Li Chengyi’s eyes flickered slightly.

He dodged left and right, easily evading the assailant’s attacks while his mind raced.

Numerous Swords of Wisdom attempted to solidify from within the figure’s body and burst forth.

Yet some invisible force resisted the Swords of Wisdom, preventing them from detonating internally.

’No use this way, either?’

’Looks like I have no choice but to attack head-on?’

Li Chengyi didn’t understand the nature of this Blind Spot, so naturally, he had no intention of engaging in a fight to the death with the figure in white armor. It was paramount to test his options first.

He immediately pointed his toes and gathered numerous Swords of Wisdom around him.

Sss, sss, sss!

In an instant, a torrent of blades shot out like raindrops.

A sonic boom erupted at close range, and in virtually no time, the Swords of Wisdom struck the figure.

Clang, clang, clang, clang!

A cacophony of collisions merged into one resounding echo, as though containing numerous distinct sounds.

About half of the Swords of Wisdom were deflected, the rest hitting their target head-on.

The figure in white armor was blasted back, its body marred with dents and cracks, though conspicuously absent of punctures.

Seizing the opportunity as the figure was repelled, a flash of darkness enveloped Li Chengyi, who vanished from the spot.

He proceeded forward, switching to the Floral Dress and utilizing Shadow Flash to avoid further entanglement with the figure in white armor. After all, it couldn’t be killed, and with the first warning sign, it was crucial to survey as much of the situation as possible.

At his current speed, the flick of his toes stirred the air, and he disappeared down the corridor in an instant.

Following the passageway, he accelerated as he moved forward.

Soon, Li Chengyi saw two more humanoid figures dressed the same as the armored figure he had encountered earlier.

This gave him some conjecture about the place.

Quickly reaching the end of the corridor, there were stairs leading to a higher level.

The gray stone steps were covered in dust.

This time, an armored figure similar to the first white-armored figure was sitting on the steps, sword in hand, head bowed.

It seemed to be waiting for something.

When Li Chengyi approached within fifty meters, the figure lifted its head, stood up, took the greatsword in hand, and looked forward.

Whoosh!

A pair of tattered wings, made entirely of bones, unfolded behind it.

Despite the ragged wings, as they unfolded and flapped, a faint white light still emanated, accompanying the movements of the wings and surfacing across the humanoid figure.

"Tsk tsk... Angels, huh?" Li Chengyi halted his footsteps and looked at the white-armored figure blocking the staircase.

He roughly guessed what kind of Blind Spot he had come to.

But... what was this layer of white light?

Standing ten meters away from the winged figure, he scrutinized the opponent closely.

For a moment, both parties fell silent.

Suddenly, the winged figure raised its sword high.

Countless points of white light turned into tiny specks that flew up and converged onto the sword blade.

A series of invisible, transparent oppressive sensations squeezed the air, forming violent wind currents that blew crazily along the passage.

In Li Chengyi’s hand, the Golden Sword was also tightly grasped, Soft Qi brewing, his eyes faintly beginning to undergo Dragon Transformation, turning into a pale golden-red.

He wanted to test how strong this guy was to facilitate subsequent responses.

One white, one gold, both swords were swung almost simultaneously.

Two shadows flashed, crossing past each other.

A huge hole appeared in the right shoulder of the winged figure.

It swayed its body and fell backward, crashing heavily onto the staircase, losing its balance.

Li Chengyi slowly approached, frowning as he looked at this fellow.

This winged figure was very strong in terms of speed and power!

The explosiveness of its sword strike was roughly about three hundred tons, bizarrely almost identical to his.

Yet its speed was much slower, only around twice the speed of sound, which was why it ended up defeated.

And...

Li Chengyi furrowed his brow, feeling that something was amiss.

If this winged figure also had the same colossal strength as him, why didn’t it accelerate its sword blade to a similar speed?

A flash of black light, and he was already heading towards the upper levels.

Star Lake, Underground Magma Cavern · Xuan Ming Island.

In the deep strata about 130 kilometers from the earth’s surface.

Countless streams of dark red magma flowed and burned, emitting thick smoke, forming a sea of death that spread everywhere.

In this sea of magma, a black city shaped like a gigantic island was slowly moving in the red glow.

The entire city resembled a giant palm, facing upwards with its curled fingers, while its palm center flickered with a blinding red light on and off.

An invisible force field sternly blocked all outsiders from entering the city.

Pop.

Suddenly above the city, a black fish-shaped spacecraft separated from the stratum and flew down towards the city.

Inside the ship.

Barton, Angeal, and Karan sat in a row opposite Yang Chengxi, who was tied up alone.

Around them were a squad of fully armed soldiers in black armor and carrying guns.

"Uh... this place... feels a bit dangerous, doesn’t it?" Barton chuckled dryly. "Brothers, could you tell us where exactly we are?"

"This is Xuan Ming Island."

The leading soldier captain answered coldly.

"Our headquarters of Star Lake."

Star Lake?! Headquarters?!

All four of them shook.

What kind of organization was Star Lake? It was one of the largest terrorist organizations in the world, and moreover, the successor to the United Front!

This kind of terrorist organization was rated among the top three in terms of danger on both sides of the Twin Star.

"Can we ask why you brought us here?" Karan thought that as a woman, she might communicate more easily with men.

"The world is about to be destroyed. Danger is spreading, and the apocalypse is coming. You are lucky to have been chosen to participate in the salvation project of Star Lake."

The captain answered earnestly.

"How do you mean?" Barton twitched at the corner of his mouth. These days, nine out of ten cults preached that the world would end, claiming only they could save people.

"Do you know about Blind Spots?" the captain sighed.

All four nodded.

Barton and the others, being members of the Ethics Committee, naturally understood this.

Many crimes were committed by Blind Spot Individuals.

Yang Chengxi, on the other hand, came from a pirate background, where some were Blind Spot Individuals, so she had a fair understanding.

"Good to know," the captain sighed again. "Others see us as terrorists, but only we know that we have been saving people all along, rescuing this increasingly fragmented world."

"....."

The four had no words to respond.

"Don’t disbelieve. You will soon see for yourselves." The squad leader spoke firmly. "The world is falling, and once it falls into the infinite Black Sea, everything will be completely destroyed. And now... the signs have started."

"What signs?" asked Yang Chengxi.

"Monsters from the Blind Spots are already part of the present world..." the squad leader said gravely.

"Ordinary people cannot see them, and they have all sorts of powerful abilities, many of which are impossible to kill, only to expel, seal, or imprison."

"And Xuan Ming Island is the front line of battle against these monsters!"

"Why would the world fall?" Yang Chengxi asked further. She didn’t believe any of these superstitions.

"Because the world is getting heavier, larger, and more bloated. Artificial intelligences are trying to destroy everything, making humans their nourishment for rebirth," the captain answered. The response was almost instinctual, evidently rehearsed by heart.

"When will the world be destroyed?" she asked with a sneer.

"When we can no longer hold back," answered the Star Lake squad leader.

"How will it be destroyed?"

"I don’t know... but the common belief is that artificial intelligence design has caused our fall, so only by totally destroying their plot, can we escape our fated outcome," the squad leader replied with a hint of impatience.

"So where is this dangerous artificial intelligence?" Yang Chengxi pressed on.

"I don’t know, but I’ve heard the Star Generals on the island say that White Star’s artificial intelligence actually wasn’t created by us humans, but was led and manipulated by alien forces to develop in that direction. Our technology, especially that of White Star, wasn’t developed normally, but was guided and created by an external, powerful force," the squad leader answered.

Yang Chengxi wanted to ask more.

Bang.

Suddenly, the entire spacecraft shuddered slightly and came to a stop.

"Alright, Xuan Ming Island has been reached, time to disembark."

The squad leader swiftly got up.

"Next, you will truly see the reality of the world! All the hidden truths!"
