Blind Spot -
Chapter 168: Fate Unit 1
Chapter 168: Fate Unit 1
The days with a broken hand were very boring.
There was so much that couldn’t be done; the practice of combat techniques had to be stopped as well.
Although Li Chengyi was using the Radiance Field to speed up his healing, it inevitably wouldn’t be just a few days before he recovered.
After three days, he had only healed by half; a full recovery was estimated to take about five days.
In order not to waste time,
he began to continue his research in the hospital room on the notes he had obtained from Zhong Hui: the exploration and records of the Clock Field.
He had already glanced through this notebook before but hadn’t read it in detail, just skimmed it.
This time, he read again the part Zhong Hui had recorded about the Silent Store.
A foreigner named Geon had found him and warned him not to enter again, otherwise unforeseeable consequences would arise.
Zhong Hui seemed to have ultimately heeded the advice and chose to take the merchandise and leave.
Otherwise, the subsequent information about other Blind Spots wouldn’t have been recorded in such detail.
But...
’What is the essence of a person?’
The sentence that came right after the page with Zhong Hui’s self-portrait still made Li Chengyi fall into contemplation at this moment.
Late at night.
He sat alone in the stark white hospital room, flipping through the notebook on his bed.
Knock knock knock.
Suddenly, there was a light knocking at the door.
The sound wasn’t loud, but it had a polite restraint to it, neither too light nor too heavy.
"Come in," Li Chengyi said aloud. He put the notebook he was holding under the pillow and then looked up towards the door.
It was already past eleven at night.
The duty nurse had been around half an hour ago, and it was now time for her to rest and change shifts.
Logically, there shouldn’t be anyone else coming.
Li Chengyi looked towards the door.
But there was no sound.
The door wasn’t locked, he had said to come in, yet the person on the other side remained still.
"Come in," he said again, raising his voice.
In the quiet hospital room, only his voice echoed slightly.
Still no movement.
The person outside seemed not to have heard.
Or rather, had heard, but still didn’t move.
Li Chengyi began to frown a little.
He quietly donned the visibly invisible Wisteria Floral Dress.
The Titan Sunflower had already evolved a second time and could cover the whole body, merging with his clothes, but because it had reached the Ultimate Form, as soon as he put it on, everything around would be ignited by the high-temperature field without discrimination.
Therefore, except when absolutely necessary, he generally refrained from using the Titan Sunflower.
Although the Wisteria Floral Dress was shattered and its defensive capability had diminished, it was still more reliable and comprehensive than any bulletproof vest.
Ordinary bullets couldn’t penetrate it.
After waiting a few seconds and realizing there was still no response, Li Chengyi slowly got up and out of bed.
The hospital room door was rectangular with a square viewing window.
From the position of the viewing window, he could see the edge of a grey wide-brimmed hat on the right side of the window.
It seemed that there was a person of medium height, about as tall as the viewing window, wearing a grey wide-brimmed hat, standing in front of the door, knocking quietly.
"Who’s out there?"
Li Chengyi slowly walked toward the door.
He rarely stayed in hospitals but knew that doctors and nurses would never dress like that.
So, the person outside had to be a stranger, and a stranger who stood at the door but did not come in.
His alertness was immediately raised.
Slowly.
Step by step, Li Chengyi walked to the door.
He extended his hand.
And grasped the door handle.
"You can’t... can’t...."
At that moment, a mumbled voice, unclear as if garbled, came from outside the door.
It was a man, his tone strange with a crying lilt. He was speaking Yi Country’s language, but one could oddly discern a thick sense of panic embedded within.
"Can’t keep doing this... can’t go in there again..." Through the door, the man’s muffled voice entered Li Chengyi’s ears.
"Go in where? Who are you? Can you come in and speak clearly?" Li Chengyi asked sternly.
"Don’t go in again... Really... you absolutely, absolutely can’t..."
Whoosh.
Suddenly, a breeze blew from behind Li Chengyi.
His heart chilled; he remembered that he hadn’t opened any windows in the hospital room.
He swiftly turned his head to look back.
Li Chengyi noticed that the window by the bed, which had been firmly closed before, was somehow now open.
The cool night air blew in from outside.
Yet what he felt at that moment was only waves of cold.
The Radiance Field unconsciously expanded quietly, instantly covering the entire hospital room.
The cleansing ability of the Radiance Field brought Li Chengyi a substantial sense of psychological comfort.
He turned back to look towards the door’s viewing window.
The edge of that hat was no longer there.
Click.
He twisted open the door, and outside was a quiet, impeccably white hallway.
And right at the doorstep lay a brown-wrapped envelope.
Li Chengyi bent down to pick up the envelope, closed the door, and went back into the room.
He wasn’t worried about poison or anything like that; in a protective state, even his breathing was isolated from the outside world.
The Floral Dress could even provide oxygen individually, allowing him to be self-sufficient and detached from the outside world.
Holding the envelope, he glanced over it briefly.
The yellow envelope’s upper left corner, where the postal code boxes were, had been blacked out one by one.
In the middle, there was no address, just two words: Geon.
Beyond that, there was nothing else; it was completely blank.
’Geon...’
Li Chengyi immediately thought of the mysterious person mentioned in Zhong Hui’s notes.
The mysterious foreigner who had come to warn him not to continue entering the Silent Store.
Later, Zhong Hui had a blood transfusion, and then the person himself disappeared, leaving behind a clone created by his wife to live in his place.
But everyone knew that the real Zhong Hui was nowhere to be found.
Li Chengyi did not know how this Geon had found him, nor did he understand his intentions.
’Perhaps, the root of everything is hidden in this letter...’
He looked at the letter and took a deep breath.
Hiss.
He tore open one end of the envelope.
He shook the inner chamber and an irregularly folded piece of white paper fell out.
He unfolded the white paper.
The crooked characters of the Yi script were written on it.
’Your body...is undergoing a transformation.’
’Whether you change your blood or not, each visit to that Silent Store will slowly cause irreversible changes. ’
’Something has set their sights on you...They look very much like people...but are only just similar...They are not human!’
’Be careful...watch your surroundings...they...have come!!!’
The last line was written with so much force that the paper was punctured with several slits.
Li Chengyi could feel that the person who wrote the letter was in a very bad emotional state.
All of the content of the letter was here.
He flipped the letter over and back again to make sure there was no other content before he carefully refolded the paper and placed it back in the envelope.
"They have come? Who are ’they’? Humans? Or monsters from the Blind Spot?"
Li Chengyi frowned.
This Geon was secretive and refused to speak clearly.
It was unclear what he was scheming.
However, regardless of his intentions, besides offering a warning, the other party made no further moves, which could perhaps be considered well-meaning.
Once, Zhong Hui entered the Silent Store and also encountered this Geon.
Clearly, he had a way of monitoring and investigating those who entered the Silent Store.
The Blind Spot had suddenly infiltrated his reality.
This made Li Chengyi’s already tense state even tighter.
’It seems I must leave the Silent Store as soon as possible.’

The evening of the 15th.
On the old street where he first entered the Silent Store.
Li Chengyi, dressed in a black trench coat and wearing a black knitted hat that covered his entire head and most of his face, leaving only his eyes visible, strolled slowly up and down the street, waiting for the Flash Appearance.
From a nearby bar KTV assembly street, music and shouts of people floated over incessantly.
It sounded like fighting or drunken madness.
Winter had arrived and the temperature was dropping even further.
Li Chengyi tightened his coat and lowered his head, continuing to walk slowly along the sidewalk.
His left hand had fully recovered.
It took just five days, with only half of the powerful nutritional liquid provided by Da Xiong used up.
The examining doctors all looked at him with eyes as if seeing someone who had been enhanced.
They all thought he must have received at least dozens of Strengthening Injections.
But only Li Chengyi himself knew that he had only taken Strengthening Gene Medicine once so far.
And that was during his time at the Brain Calculation Center.
Pitter-patter.
Small raindrops fell from the night sky.
Li Chengyi raised his head to look at the sky—the overcast sky was dark, with neither clouds nor the White Star moon visible.
It was just a blanket of chaotic gray-black.
As the raindrops increased, the ground gradually became moist.
He straightened his hat and expanded the Radiance Field around him.
As the rain fell on his head and shoulders, the heat quickly dried and evaporated it.
As he walked,
passing a 24-hour self-service bank on the left, the blue and white light from inside the automatic glass doors of the self-service bank shone out.
The light fell on the tactile paving outside and on Li Chengyi himself, as if it had coated him in a thin layer of blue-white film.
A girl with light golden hair and chocolate skin, wearing crystal earrings, dressed in a milk-white low-cut mini dress, staggered out of the self-service bank.
She leaned on the red fire hydrant at the door, bent down, and started to vomit.
Li Chengyi was not surprised—bars were abundant nearby, and these kinds of scenes were common.
He withdrew his gaze and continued forward.
Turning a corner, on the left side of the road ahead was a wall with black and white checkers.
Dark green plants peeked out from over the wall.
Through the plants, one could see a row of detached villas.
He passed an iron gate of one villa.
In front of the gate was a shiny, silver, round plaque.
It displayed the homeowner’s postal code and house number.
Listening to the faint sound of a TV program emanating from within a house.
Li Chengyi calculated the distance, turned around, and headed back the way he came.
He couldn’t stray too far from the spot where the Silent Store had appeared: it was on the street block he had just passed.
He walked slowly.
In a short while,
he was back in front of the self-service bank.
By the chocolate girl who was vomiting, there was now a slender young girl with black hair, helping her sit on the steps of the bank doorstep to shelter from the rain.
Li Chengyi slowed his pace slightly as he recognized the black-haired girl.
Zhou Xingtong.
The roommate that Chen Pi had introduced to him.
She wore a black long-sleeve T-shirt bearing the white logo of Doodoo Milk Tea, speaking softly to the chocolate girl.
Her slim waist and long legs completely hidden under the loose-fitting work clothes, and she wore a pair of black-framed large glasses on her face that had little makeup, looking much more haggard than before.
Li Chengyi had not expected to encounter an acquaintance at such a time.
Although they rarely met, she would occasionally like his posts on his social circle.
After thinking about it, he chose not to greet her; it was not the time for idle chatter.
With the danger of the Silent Store escalating, he needed to be prepared to respond with full force.
The Floral Dress was fully repaired, and he had borrowed the Rainbow Candy’s Life Garment.
Emergency medication, short-acting stimulants, and simple structured directional explosive packs.
All these were thoughtfully prepared for him by Da Xiong and Rainbow Candy.
