Chapter 148: 137 reassured, three

Suiyang Yunjing Sales Office.

Li Chengyi bowed his head and signed his name on the housing contract.

After helping Rainbow Candy complete the most troublesome clue exploration in the Blind Spot, he then destroyed the Blind Spot’s main body of the Infinite Staircase.

In the subsequent changes, it took only a week for Rainbow Candy, as an experienced Blind Spot Individual, to rapidly identify the prototype and break away from the Infinite Staircase.

The so-called Infinite Staircase was actually an abandoned psychiatric hospital building.

Due to a mass riot of the patients in the hospital, at least fifteen people died and more than thirty were injured in the tragedy.

The hospital fell into decline because the scene of the crime was too horrific, and with nobody to take over management, the building was completely abandoned.

After Rainbow Candy found the building, the next day, she found the way to detach from it.

Amid huge financial expenditures, there was a psychiatric patient who had managed to escape by hiding in corners and had appeared in the investigation—safe and sound from the horrific massacre.

In that terrifying case.

The murderer was shot dead, those killed were either dead or insane, and only one person was fortunate enough to escape unharmed, merely continuing with mild depression.

Rainbow Candy also used that person to master the detachment method, and successfully completed the analysis of the Infinite Staircase.

"Mr. Li, to be able to purchase a villa in full at such a young age, we’ve never seen a customer like you in Suiyang before," the saleswoman said, her face beaming as she sold a nearly four-million-dollar property, evidently with a handsome commission.

Li Chengyi came back to his senses and scanned the contract terms again.

"If there’s no problem, when can I go for registration?"

"The contract stipulates a week from now, you just need to bring your ID card. We’ll have someone accompany you throughout the process," the saleswoman answered.

"Okay, thank you for the trouble," Li Chengyi put away the contract and slipped it into his bag.

Standing up, he exchanged a few pleasantries with the saleswoman and then walked towards the main entrance.

Boom!

Suddenly, a distant and hazy vibration rippled over from afar.

Even at such a great distance, at least several dozen kilometers away, Li Chengyi could feel the ground shaking beneath his feet.

His expression changed slightly as he looked toward the direction of the vibration.

In the afternoon sky, a plume of dense smoke was rising slowly, staining a small patch of the sky gray.

The sound of fire trucks, their sirens wailing incessantly, came one after another.

Interspersed with a large number of police car sirens.

Beep beep beep...!

Li Chengyi’s phone vibrated and rang.

He quickly took it out and pressed answer.

"Brother Cheng, the Hundred Flowers Chemical Plant in the southern suburbs has exploded! It’s said to be caused by dust ignition due to aged wiring! But I’ve mobilized the surveillance around the area at the first instance.

I’ve discovered that both the Safety Bureau and the Federation, with the help of Heavenly Eye, are pursuing images of an unknown individual. Be extra careful on your end, I thought it was just chaos in the provincial city, but didn’t expect it to have now spread to Suiyang," Rainbow Candy rapidly reported on the phone.

Ever since the last time they tacitly confirmed Li Chengyi’s dual identity by matching secret codes.

Rainbow Candy’s attitude towards him had become much more respectful.

Well-informed as she was, she understood that Li Chengyi’s achievements, even within the Mecha Engineer and Reinforced Human System circles, were impressive.

The most critical aspect was that nobody knew just how strong he was.

Behind those exaggeratedly powerful modification modules lay a power responsible for their maintenance and supply.

Rainbow Candy couldn’t find out anything about it.

That’s what alarmed her the most.

Previously, the forces that she couldn’t investigate were a secretive organization known as Dragon River.

"Don’t worry, it’s likely just a diversion. There’s nothing in Suiyang worth coveting, so it’s very likely they’re just trying to attract the attention of the law enforcement and experts," Li Chengyi said, having come into contact with Utopia, aware of their modus operandi.

"Brother Cheng, do you... know some inside information?" Rainbow Candy detected something from the details.

"I don’t know. But I can guess it, and it’s none of our business anyway. Yi Country is not as weak as you think it is, the upper echelons will definitely have a response, don’t worry," Li Chengyi had previously spoken with senior Mecha Engineer Ding Ning about Yi Country’s high-level federation and Mecha Engineer structure.

He knew that with the forces now exposed by Utopia, it was impossible to constrain the power of the great federation and the head bureau.

An empire with billions of people contains massive strength, one can guess as much.

Thus, he didn’t pay it much mind but simply hailed a cab on the roadside to head back to the Botanical Garden.

These days, he had spent nearly every day in the Botanical Garden, watering the flowerpots with the Shadow of Resentment’s diluted blood nutrient solution.

Every morning when he got up, he would check on them and continuously nurture the plants with his Radiance Field.

At first, there were no changes in any of the flowers, but as time passed, some of them began to wilt uncontrollably.

And now...on the eighth day.

After a few minutes.

Li Chengyi returned to a corner of the Botanical Garden.

A designated area was allocated here for his experiments with the Shadow of Resentment’s fresh blood.

Approaching the corner, several withered blackened plants came into view.

Thirty different kinds of flowering pots had been brought in, and already ninety percent of them had withered and died.

That included the chrysanthemums he had been focusing on.

Chrysanthemums are known to be resilient, but unfortunately... they couldn’t withstand the new nutrient solution and gave in.

Li Chengyi walked up to a pot of dead chrysanthemums, reached out, and grabbed a few stems and leaves.

The stems were dry, black, and brittle, as if they had been baked dry by the sun.

They were devoid of any moisture to the touch.

’Yesterday they were still green...just a bit wilted, but today they’re gone....’

He sighed and moved on to the other flowerpots to check their conditions.

A young man responsible for the record-keeping of the plants hurried over.

"Mr. Li, I have been diligently caring for these plants every single day, running over at the slightest disturbance, but inexplicably, they suddenly died off in large numbers! The surveillance here has always been on, you can check it out if you don’t believe me!"

The young man was also a staff member of the botanical garden, specially transferred by Li Chengyi to be responsible for this small section of the experimental plants.

His tone was clearly out of fear that Li Chengyi would suspect it was his fault that caused the widespread death of the flowers.

"I understand, you did well. It’s not your fault, go and attend to other things," Li Chengyi nodded, indicating he understood.

His eyes still swept over each pot of flowers.

Dead.

Dead.

Dead.

All dead!

Li Chengyi sighed softly.

These past few days, he had lost count of how many times he had sighed; each time he saw these pots of flower dying en masse, a tinge of disappointment would rise in his heart.

Today was no exception.

Walking around, he saw that all the flower pots were left with only withered, blackened remnants.

Li Chengyi was completely disappointed and was about to leave.

Suddenly, his peripheral vision caught a glimpse of pale green.

That was a touch of green still surviving in one of the pots.

"What is this!?"

He became instantly excited and quickly walked up to that pot.

It was then he discovered that the flower in this pot was a hyacinth, one that had just been brought out from the greenhouse for experimentation and had already withered away, turning into black leaves scattered in the soil.

That hint of green was not the hyacinth at all, but something that had grown from the dark soil near the edge of the pot, close to the black dirt.

He carefully reached out to clear that thing away.

Immediately, a fresh green showed amidst the black withered leaves.

Strands of green leaves, like spring onions, spread open like an orchid.

In the center, there were some purple and white small flowers.

The flowers were peculiar in appearance, resembling the edge of a basket, with purple spikes piercing through.

The petals were curved, forming the basket when put together.

The filaments made up the spikes, with their tips faintly yellow in color.

A wave of surprise rippled through Li Chengyi’s heart.

He reached out a finger and gently touched the little flower.

As wisps of floral energy surged up, flowing into the mark, new, never-before-collected information emerged.

’Jiutou Flower (Contaminated): A perennial herb with thin, hollow leaves, purple flowers, underground bulbs are narrow and ovate, scales fleshy and white, crisp and tender taste, with unique spicy aroma, edible, containing proteins, calcium, iron, carotene and other nutrients. Enhances digestion and appetite. Blooms in October and November.’

’Flower Language Technique: Fierce Shadow Bloodline (mutated due to being watered with the blood of the Shadow of Resentment, the original heart of the fierce has been integrated, causing a mutation of the bloodline, and forming an entirely new and unknown bloodline).’

Li Chengyi’s expression became somewhat peculiar.

He thought of the Inferior Shadow Dragon Bloodline in the Silent Store.

’If I’m not mistaken, the Flower Language Technique of the Feilian must have originated in this way. But this Fierce Shadow... what could it be? A mutation that has taken on a name, probably a relatively stable bloodline that already exists...’

By now, he had quite an understanding of the Mark of the Evil Flower.

He knew that this ability itself, if it encountered a flower that had not been named, would not automatically assign a name.

It would display it as unknown or unnamed instead.

But this one... turned out to have a named bloodline already.

Thinking of this, he quickly called the young man over.

"Go around and gather all the Jiutou plants and replace everything here with Jiutou!"

"All... thirty pots changed to Jiutou?" The young man seemed a bit incredulous.

The Jiutou was essentially a wild weed, a type of wild vegetable that no one cared to buy; this one pot had been overlooked and hence had gradually grown larger at the edge of another flower pot.

But to be fair, the young man knew he was at fault.

Technically, since he had received overtime pay, he should have taken meticulous care of each flower pot.

The fact that the Jiutou was found in a hyacinth pot meant that he had completely overlooked it previously.

After all, it was considered a weed.

"Change them all to Jiutou. But I suppose our botanical garden doesn’t have this in bulk cultivation, right?" Li Chengyi asked.

"We don’t. However, there’s plenty of it in the drier soil among the grass outside. It’s a kind of wild vegetable with very strong vitality, usually used as a seasoning or herb," the young man replied.

"Help me find thirty pots, and I’ll give you an extra month’s bonus for this year!" Li Chengyi grandly offered.

Upon hearing about the extra month’s bonus, the young man’s eyes lit up.

Without a second word, he hurried off to look for Jiutou elsewhere.

After confirming the success of the experiment, Li Chengyi was in a very good mood. He specifically found a worker to keep an eye on the pot of Jiutou flowers.

Then he went to prepare some nutrient solution before returning to the Botanical Garden Dormitory Building.

Now the people of the Garden of Fate had all gone back to their places, leaving the area empty and quiet.

Last time it was the Blind Spot Incident with the Rainbow Candy that brought everyone together, and now that it was over, everyone had gone their separate ways again.

Li Chengyi sat alone on the sofa, took out his phone, and sent a message to the boss.

"Boss, how are things on your end?"

No reply.

Probably busy.

Li Chengyi didn’t mind; after all, no one responds immediately to a non-urgent message.

It might also be that Xindela was occupied with something.

He took the remote control and switched on the wall-projected TV.
