Blind Spot -
Chapter 146 - 135 Peace of Mind One
Chapter 146: 135 Peace of Mind One
Eternal Botanical Garden.
Li Chengyi’s vision was shimmering with countless snowflakes. As his view gradually cleared, the white dots became sparser until they disappeared completely.
"I’m out!"
He breathed a sigh of relief.
"Yserine?" he tried asking.
No one answered.
The things or people inside the Blind Spot seemed to have different degrees of restriction in reality.
The merchandise in the Silent Store was just like that, completely invisible to ordinary people.
Now, it seemed that Yserine was the same.
Exhaling deeply, Li Chengyi quickly raised his hand to check the time on his phone.
It was okay; the phone had automatically corrected the time after reconnecting to the network. Only twenty minutes had passed.
’Such a short time, it shouldn’t have led to any trouble.’
What he was worried about was spending too long inside, and by the time he came out, Rainbow Candy and the others had also run into trouble. That would be a real hassle.
After straightening his clothes, he walked out of the bedroom and headed downstairs.
He hadn’t gotten far down when he saw Da Hei and Da Xiong, Xiao Zhong, and the others rushing up towards him in a hurry.
"Brother Cheng!? Da Xiong says you didn’t go in! Your phone signal was lost too. Did you enter another Blind Spot?" Da Hei’s large beard on his chin was still stained with white milk, clearly he was in the middle of eating when he heard the news.
He had run over here without even taking the time to wipe his beard.
He and his brother originally thought that Brother Cheng had gone in to help and felt somewhat reassured, so they went for some milk. They happened to meet Da Xiong just as he Flash Appeared back.
After learning from Da Xiong that they hadn’t encountered Brother Cheng at all, they all realized the urgency of the situation.
Right then, Li Chengyi’s phone signal reconnected.
The group immediately dashed towards the stairs in a frenzy.
"I entered another Blind Spot. What’s going on with you all..." Li Chengyi frowned at their anxious expressions and immediately thought of something.
"Could it be...!?"
"Sister Tang went in!" Da Xiong said urgently, her demeanor at the moment completely devoid of her usual gentleness and composure, showing seriousness with a touch of impatience.
"We encountered a monster inside and were trying to find a way to deal with it when my time was up, and I Flash Appeared back. Now, the others are trying to Flash Appear, but no one can get in!"
Flash Appearing was a matter of chance, and typically, the odds for Blind Spot Individuals weren’t high.
Although they could still possibly get in through accumulated time, not being able to enter at a critical moment and attempting to go later would be meaningless—the flowers would have withered by then.
"Rainbow Candy went in? How long has it been!?" Li Chengyi quickly grasped the seriousness of the situation.
"About twenty minutes or so, she went in with you at the same time, Brother Cheng. We thought you both entered the same Blind Spot, but it seems..."
"Get ready immediately." Li Chengyi quickly descended the stairs, squeezing between them.
His actions revealed his strong physical condition, taking several steps per floor, swiftly reaching the lobby on the ground floor.
Arriving at the place where Rainbow Candy had previously been playing games, he looked around.
He closed his eyes.
’Entering a Blind Spot always follows certain patterns.’
’Almost every time, it happens unintentionally, when one is unaware.’
’Like when passing through doors, idly wandering, or when our attention is elsewhere.’
’According to the boss’s dossier, one characteristic of entering and exiting a Blind Spot is the requirement to let one’s consciousness enter a dissociative and dispersed state. In a dispersed state, it’s easier to touch and perceive the location of a Blind Spot and thus be drawn in by it.’
Li Chengyi closed his eyes, his mind flashing through analyses on how to Flash Appear more quickly.
"Da Hei, where’s the high-temperature heat gun that was prepared?" he asked solemnly.
"It’s all here." A heavy burlap bag was thrust into his hand.
"And the emergency descent device prepared earlier, along with a large number of disposable light-emitting devices. Over two thousand, definitely enough." Xiao Zhong’s voice followed.
"Good, now, everyone be quiet!" Li Chengyi grabbed the bag and sat down on the spot, next to where Rainbow Candy had been sitting.
He deliberately began to diverge his thoughts, considering a variety of other chaotic things.
Like how to transfer his account funds to improve his family’s living conditions, or about the Blue Book investigation by the boss, Xindela, which had gone quiet for so long without any progress—was there some issue?
And the old man he met in Utopia who had given an invitation but then went silent; this mysterious, terrifying organization was entwined with the Blind Spots, and it was uncertain what they would do next.
Considering one heavy matter after another, he suddenly realized he had quite a few troubles to deal with.
Li Chengyi kept thinking, continuously spreading his thoughts, sitting quietly on the couch like a closed-eyed statue.
He was waiting.
Suddenly, a slight warmth of air gently brushed against his cheek.
"It’s here!!"
Li Chengyi’s eyes snapped open.
Before him was no longer the lobby but a dark, enclosed stairwell!

*
Thump!
Rainbow Candy tumbled to the side, rolling on the floor to escape several yards. She narrowly dodged a pale hand that lunged at her from behind.
Her heart pounded furiously, yet her face remained remarkably calm.
She glanced at the black figure that had tried to sneak up on her, quickly got to her feet, and sprinted up the stairs.
Thud thud thud thud.
The dull sound of footsteps was like drum beats, quickly spreading through the stairwell.
Since the other was coming from below, she had no choice but to head up; if another monster appeared from downstairs in such a tight space...
"!?!" Suddenly, Rainbow Candy’s eyes widened as she saw another grey door appear in front of her.
"A door that moves!?" She suddenly remembered the mysterious object detected by the equipment, quickly approaching from above.
"Could it be... that this thing came down from above!?"
The grey door was located on the wall to the left at the turn of the stairwell, just like a normal emergency exit in a staircase.
Only then did Rainbow Candy notice the red lit-up sign above the door.
It read: Safe Exit.
The blood-like red light in the gloomy stairwell radiated a dense sense of oppression and ominousness.
’This damned sign of safety doesn’t mean a thing! Do they think I’m a pushover!?’ Rainbow Candy’s expression darkened as she reached into a pocket and pulled out a silver, round remote control.
She pressed it forcefully.
Whirr!
A miniature drone shaped like a black flying fish burst from one of her pockets and ferociously charged towards the wooden door.
With a practiced roll, she picked up the previous covering and spread it out, tucking herself into the corner of the wall.
Boom!!
After a huge roar,
scorching flames and a flash of red light streaked by, thick smoke and dust billowing throughout.
Rainbow Candy removed the covering, her face now adorned with a simple gas mask.
On her hands were black gloves resistant to high heat and punctures.
She put away the covering.
Then she looked back at the door.
A huge hole had been blasted through it.
Dada dada....
Suddenly, from deep within the wooden door, a series of rapid footsteps approached swiftly from the darkness.
Rainbow Candy’s heart tensed, knowing something was wrong, she quickly pressed two buttons on the side of her shoe.
She stomped down hard.
Bang!
She sprung up, like a coiled spring, leaping over the eight-step staircase, then turned a corner, taking off with another leap.
This was a pair of super bounce shoes, which she had trained with and mastered long ago.
Having survived so many times within the Blind Spot, she was naturally not one of those trash who only relied on high technology.
She had her own real skills.
In the blink of an eye, the grey wooden door was left behind her.
The disheveled, black humanoid couldn’t keep up at all.
Rainbow Candy jumped up one level at a time, hurtling towards the upper floors.
"They definitely won’t be able to catch up like this!" she thought with a slight ease.
"Ugh..."
"Heh... heh..."
Suddenly, a faint sound of a woman vomiting and gasping for air echoed from ahead.
The sounds were intense, filled with a fearful modulation and sobbing.
Rainbow Candy’s expression turned grim, she pressed the button on her shoes again, halting the powerful jumping mode.
She stood in the stairwell, snapping off her watch’s light, then reached into a small bag to pull out a small object.
She pressed the object against her chest.
Sss.
Under a faint sound,
the object spread like liquid sludge over the surface of her body, quickly extending over her entire body.
It acted like a thin film, entirely covering Rainbow Candy, enveloping her clothing as well.
Rainbow Candy stepped back two paces, pressed closely against the wall, standing still.
Quickly, the film that covered her merged her entirely into the wall, changing color and mimicking the surrounding wall’s complexion.
One second later.
Breathing ceased, as oxygen was supplied by her mask.
Two seconds later.
Heartbeats isolated, covered with thick insulating materials, minimizing the sound of heartbeat transmission.
Three seconds later.
Body temperature insulated.
Covered with insulating material to prevent any trace of temperature from being detected externally, avoiding infrared scanning.
Lastly, was the counteracting of the body’s biological electromagnetic field, the film isolated and negated the body’s weak bioelectromagnetic field to prevent detection from electromagnetic scanners.
Rainbow Candy quietly pressed against the wall, her back completely covered by the film.
The film had a strong corrosive property, slowly embedding her whole body into the wall.
This was her ultimate life-saving divine artifact—Weibang Energy Multi-Environment Adaptive Life Suit.
It was a special protection device formed by combining biotechnology and mechanical technology.
In extreme environments, it could provide a short-lived, absolutely concealed environment that would suffice for three hours of survival.
And because it was mainly biotech, the Blind Spot had a very low failure rate.
But it could only last for three hours. And it was a one-time use, non-recoverable item.
Dah, dah, dah, dah....
At this moment, clear footsteps gradually came from the staircase downstairs.
In the darkness, under the residual glimmer of some silver spiders,
a black figure, with disheveled long hair, walked up unhurriedly from below.
Her head was bowed, in a black and gray long dress, her face obscured.
One step, another step.
The figure quickly ascended the stairs and arrived at the turning point.
At the corner, where Rainbow Candy was hiding against the wall.
Swoosh.
Fortunately, the black figure did not notice anything, nor did it stop, it simply turned the corner, passing by Rainbow Candy, and continued upstairs.
She did not linger, moving mechanically, step by step, steadily progressing upward, then disappeared around the corner above.
Rainbow Candy took a long breath, looking through the film, able to see what was happening outside.
This world-class technological product naturally came with an imaging function.
Linked to her mask internally, she could clearly see every image outside.
The image was fan-shaped, like a ginkgo leaf, covering a one hundred twenty-degree field of view.
This already encompassed all directions in the stairwell.
Seeing the black figure head upward, away from her,
her frantic heart slowly calmed down.
’God damn it, another technological failure in the Blind Spot! Shit! Wasted more than ten million of my money!’ she raged inwardly, yet there was nothing she could do.
What was more irritating was that the Blind Spot not only countered her but she was also the only one who had entered.
Without others to take her place and provide a buffer, she didn’t even have enough time to investigate the original model.
