Chapter 63: A pair of shoes

Arriving back at the house, Andrew pulled off the tie first. Undoing the first button on his dress shirt, he finally felt he could breathe. Exhaling slowly, he took a second after the door was closed and locked behind them to center himself.

"Were you that worried?" Maxwell teased, taking off his own shoes. Andrew nodded.

"If I’m honest? I was terrified. I really didn’t want them to hate me." Andrew told him, and Maxwell smiled to himself as he placed his shoes neatly to the side. Turning, he lowered himself much to Andrew’s shock and began helping Andrew take off his shoes.

"Did you know that it’s a bad omen to give your lover a pair of shoes?" Maxwell asked. Andrew was having a hard time making his tongue move seeing Maxwell on his knees below him. Maxwell’s smile reached his eyes. "It’s because they can then use those shoes to run away from you." Raising Andrew’s one foot out of his shoe, Maxwell placed a kiss against his ankle. "But I’m not worried. If you run away, I’ll just find you." Andrew inhaled, overwhelmed.

"I don’t want to run away." Andrew told him, and Maxwell’s face was bright as he smiled.

"You say that now, but what happens when I do something scary later?" Maxwell said, pressing another kiss to his ankle before he put his foot down and moved onto the next shoe. Andrew was entranced.

"Maxwell, what do you mean? You could kill someone in front of me and I wouldn’t care." Andrew told him, and Maxwell froze, before he looked up at him and smiled.

"Could I? Are you sure?" Maxwell asked, his fingers gently caressing the top of Andrew’s foot and Andrew swallowed. Holy shit.

"I am pretty sure." Andrew offered, his voice a little raspy and Maxwell chuckled.

"Could you kill for me, Andrew?" Maxwell asked sweetly, and Andrew felt Maxwell’s pheromones wrap around him. Tempting, tantalizing, and it took Andrew a minute to find his words.

"I...I don’t think I could, but I could drive the getaway car." Andrew offered, and Maxwell threw his head back and laughed. Helping Andrew take his other shoe off, he pressed another kiss against Andrew’s ankle before getting to his own feet. He wrapped his arms around Andrew, sighing.

"Well, we won’t have to worry about that for a while. I have no plans to kill anyone, especially with you around. You have a soft heart, and I don’t want to harm it." Maxwell held Andrew for a long moment, before pulling back. "You did a really great job today, Andrew. I mean it. I couldn’t have asked for someone better to introduce to my family." Maxwell’s words made Andrew’s eyes water.

"Oh Maxwell." Andrew sighed, hugging the man tightly against him as his heart ached. "You are too much for me." Andrew whispered, before bending down and pressing his lips against Maxwell’s, who eagerly awaited the kiss.

It was a soft, slow seduction. A deep kiss full of soft sighs and tongues twirling around each other in slow, lazy movements. Neither of them sped up the kiss, or moved as they stood by the door, kissing each other in comfort.

Andrew was the first to pull away to press his forehead against Maxwell’s shoulder. His breathing was heavy, but his heart was full.

"Shall we take a bath?" Andrew suggested, and Maxwell chuckled.

"We both had showers before we left." Maxwell teased, and Andrew turned, giving him a pleading look.

"I want to wash your hair slowly, and relax with you pressed against me." Andrew told him. Maxwell’s smile fell, but the warmth didn’t leave his eyes.

"Who said you couldn’t be pressed against me?" Maxwell countered, but Andrew was ready for him.

"And I want to worship you. Can I eat you out Max? Please? You said we could. I want to reward you for being such a good partner? Can I make you feel good? Please? Afterwards, you can lay against me and I’ll do all the work. Don’t you want to know what it’d feel like to have sex in the water?" Andrew was begging the man, laying down his cards for the evening.

But Maxwell was a hard sell, and it took him several minutes of thinking it over, and staring into Andrew’s big, brown eyes before he relented.

"Fine. I’ll let you eat me out, but you have to make me cum. Otherwise we’re never doing it again." Maxwell warned, and Andrew knew that he’d won. As if he wouldn’t make Maxwell cum. What a silly thought.

It told Andrew that he wasn’t as opposed to the thought as he had made it seem. He just couldn’t relent easily.

Andrew hid his grin from the omega as the two of them headed for the bedroom, stripping as they went. Maxwell kept glancing back at Andrew, his eyes wide and full of desire. Andrew knew he had to be tenting his pants, and when Maxwell looked him over, his gaze hot, his smile widened when he saw how much he affected Andrew.

"My my, are you happy to see me?" Maxwell teased, and Andrew chuckled.

"You have me hard whenever I see you, Max. I just have learned to control myself." Maxwell tsked.

"You don’t need to do that. If you want anything, Andrew, you can always come up to my office." Maxwell’s words were a siren call, and Andrew swallowed the lump in his throat. Maxwell laughed as Andrew’s pheromones wrapped around him, intensifying.

"I-I don’t want to interrupt you." Andrew admitted softly, and Maxwell laughed.

"A little break never hurt anyone, did it? I wouldn’t mind sitting in your lap for a few minutes." Andrew frowned, and Maxwell laughed. "What? Is a few minutes too long?" His grin was full of mischief as Andrew reached for him, yanking him off of his feet.

"Too long my ass. You are in trouble, Mr. Beckett." Andrew growled, and Maxwell chuckled.

"Oh no. A big man has me in his arms. What am I to do?" Maxwell looked back at Andrew with big, blue eyes and Andrew melted.

"Even if you call for help, no one is going to save you." Andrew played along, and Maxwell’s giggle filled the air. Andrew carried him to the bathroom, growling and kissing his neck as Maxwell pretended to struggle in his arms. Andrew’s heart felt warm as he looked down at the smaller man in his arms. He was so lovable, so cute, and without him, Andrew wasn’t sure how he would have made it through this transition in his life.

Sniffing, Andrew felt his eyes water again and Maxwell’s smile began to fade from his face. Maxwell sensed something was wrong and he frowned, taking Andrew’s face in his hands.

"Baby, why the tears? Did I actually hurt your feelings? You know I didn’t mean it, right?" Maxwell willingly soothed, and Andrew shook his head with a wet laugh.

"I know you didn’t mean it. You complained about my rut, remember?" Andrew said, and Maxwell frowned.

"Then why is my Baby crying?" He asked, and Andrew’s eyes watered more, tears spilling from his eyes. Andrew rested Maxwell against the bathroom counter, sniffing.

"I just...I care about you so much. I don’t know what I would have done without you." Andrew told him, and Maxwell pulled Andrew’s face down, pressing kisses against his cheeks.

"Oh Baby, I don’t know what I would have done without you either. You don’t need to cry though." Andrew’s shoulders shook as Maxwell continued to pet and kiss the large man.

"I can’t stop them. I get overwhelmed and they keep coming. I swear I wasn’t as big of a cry baby before." Andrew got out between sobs, and Maxwell wrapped his legs around Andrew’s waist.

"Are you sure? You cried even harder than this when you showed up drunk on my doorstep, remember?" Andrew glared at Maxwell through his tears.

"I couldn’t help that. I had just had my heart broken." Andrew protested, and Maxwell pressed his lips against his eyes, Andrew’s heart racing at the gentle touch.

"I know, which is why I’m bringing it up. I’m fine with you crying, Baby, as long as these are happy tears." Andrew nodded, and Maxwell softened. "Good. If they were sad tears, I’d have to fight whoever made you cry." Andrew laughed.

"What if you made me cry?" Andrew asked, and Maxwell’s smile grew wicked.

"Oh, I know I make you cry Baby. But those tears are exempt from the rule." Andrew snorted, shaking his head at his antics. He hoped Maxwell never changed. He loved being able to talk to him like this, even as his emotions overwhelmed him.

"I’m going to do my best to be able to go to the wedding." Andrew told him, and Maxwell shook his head in response, his eyes warm.

"You don’t need to. I would love it if you were able to go, but I don’t want to rush you." Maxwell’s expression hardened. "We also can’t rely on the suppressants either. I don’t want you to think that it’s an easy out. They are there to help, not to be your go to." Maxwell warned, and Andrew laughed. He wrapped his arms around Maxwell’s waist, pulling the man closer to him.

"I understand, Dr. Beckett." Andrew teased, and Maxwell frowned.

"Don’t patronize me. I mean it. Especially since you’re the first true alpha on them, I want to be careful. We have no one else to test them on yet." Maxwell was serious, and Andrew nodded, his tears slowing as they continued to speak.

"Alright. I understand, Maxy. I’ll be careful, and I’ll work with Michael to make sure I’m doing it the natural way. Can I have my reward now?" Andrew asked sweetly, and Maxwell laughed.

"That eager, huh?" His smile reached his eyes when he stared up at the alpha.

"Desperate." Andrew answered without any hesitation.
