Chapter 155: Everyone likes Thai food

Chapter 155: Everyone likes Thai food

After their visit to the omega research department, and their little talk with Dr. Liu, Andrew was feeling a bit more relaxed about everything, and it was lunchtime.

It was the time that Michael was supposed to come check on him, and Andrew was actually excited to tell him how good he was doing. Richard offered to have lunch with the three of them, but Andrew declined. He had a feeling that Michael’s chat wasn’t going to be a short one.

His fellow researchers were two friends from university, Dr. Ainsley Cox and Dr. Hailey Piper. Both were quite nice, but Dr. Cox was the one who had seemed eager to have a research subject on the team. The girls had seemed disappointed when Andrew had said no, but after he explained he needed to go meet up with his Doctor, the group was far more understanding.

So, Andrew headed off on his own to go up to the lobby once he’d gotten a message from Michael asking if he could meet there. It was a rather big deal, since Maxwell had controlled everything on his way down. Not that he had any issues with that, he just worried he’d set off an alarm or something absurd like that.

When he stepped into the elevator, there were two other researchers inside. On a quick note, Andrew knew that they were either omegas, or smaller betas, and Andrew immediately hesitated about getting into the elevator.

They seemed hesitant as well, but told him to come in, and Andrew did. He could have waited, but appreciated their consideration. He tried to stay as far away from them as possible in the small space, and once the doors opened for the lobby he stepped out quickly, wishing the two of them a good afternoon as he raced out.

He didn’t want to make them uncomfortable with his pheromones. That was the last thing he wanted.

Moving quickly, he scanned the people scattered around the lobby. It was oddly busy compared to before, and that was when he realised a lot of people were milling about smoking outside, or were waiting for food to be delivered. Huh.

No wonder Maxwell had had such poor nutrition before Andrew got into his life. Andrew would need to bring that up to someone, probably Maxwell and Mr. Newman? Maybe Mr. Beckett? He’d have to see who would have more power in this regard.

Did they not even have a cafeteria here? Or was the quality of food poor? That didn’t seem like Maxwell. He’d need to do more investigation, because Maxwell didn’t show him a cafeteria on his tour.

"Andy!" A familiar voice called and Andrew felt a smile cross his lips as he saw Michael with his little briefcase waving at him from a set out couches. He had Mr. Beckett with him, which was another reason why everyone was milling around.

Andrew’s smile widened as Mr. Beckett waved at him.

"Dr. Nice. it is good to see you in good health. How is your first day going?" Mr. Beckett asked as he got closer. Andrew shook his offered hand, and Michael went in for a hug.

"It seems to be going well." Andrew told them jovially, and Mr. Beckett’s eyes creased at the corners as he looked up at him.

"Good. You seem in much better spirits then I last saw you. Is it good to be around like-minded people?" He asked and Andrew nodded.

"My brain feels sore, but in a good way. I’m excited to start work. I’ve only really toured the places I’m allowed to go so far, so I’ll probably get a light lesson in what I need to do after lunch." Andrew told them and Mr. Beckett frowned.

"Where you are allowed to go?" He prompted and Andrew laughed.

"It’s nothing like what you’re thinking, Mr. Beckett. Because I’m an alpha, and this is a predominantly omega workplace, there are just some places I shouldn’t go. There are a lot of sensitive members on the staff, and I would hate to cause them any issues. It’s for everyone’s safety that I have areas I’m not allowed to go to, especially when I’m still learning to control my pheromones." Michael frowned at him.

"Andy, you’re doing incredibly well when it comes to pheromone control. At least now." He told him and Andrew smiled.

"While that may be true, that doesn’t take away from the fact that there are still several sensitive omegas on staff. I’m fine with it. Really." Andrew told the two alphas, and both finally relaxed.

"Well, as long as you are okay with it, I won’t bring it up to Max then." Mr. Beckett said, before he smirked. "Now, how long are you going to call me Mr. Beckett, Andy? Really, it makes me feel like there is a distance between us. You can call me Thomas if that makes you feel more comfortable, but I would prefer if you called me Tom." Andrew felt his eyes widen at Mr. Beckett’s words.

"A-Are you serious? I wasn’t sure-is that okay?" Andrew asked cautiously and Mr. Beckett laughed, patting his shoulder.

"I wouldn’t tell you to do so if I didn’t mean it, Andy." His eyes danced as he looked over him and Andrew swallowed. He could feel the gazes of everyone on him as he spoke to one of the directors of the company, and Andrew sighed quietly.

"Thank you, Thomas." Mr. Beckett’s eyes crinkled in the corners as Andrew called him by his first name.

"Perfect. Max should be here at any moment, and we’ll head out for lunch then. I hope you like Thai food." Andrew furrowed his brows in confusion before he could feel Maxwell behind him.

Turning, he watched as Maxwell exited from an elevator and made his way towards them, his gaze never leaving Andrew’s face. His expression was stern, hard, the same expression Maxwell always had when he was in serious work mode.

Andrew felt a tingle run down his spine, but ignored it.

Andrew watched as Maxwell’s nostrils flared, and his lips turned up slightly in a smirk. Andrew was in trouble.

"Father, what are you doing here? And why did you just send me a message saying Thai food?" Maxwell asked as he approached, not even hesitating as he took one of Andrew’s hands in his own, giving it a squeeze. Andrew felt his whole face turn red as Maxwell behaved like it was completely normal. Thomas smirked as he looked from the blushing Andrew to the calm and collected Maxwell.

"Well, I know that Dr. Smith wanted to check on Dr. Nice, and I know that you aren’t going to take a break unless Andrew is involved, so Thai food." Maxwell’s eyebrow twitched as his Father called him out, and Andrew couldn’t deny that he was right.

"We only have a short window for lunch, Dad." Maxwell said and Thomas laughed.

"You think I have a huge window for lunch, Max? I’ve already preordered, we just need to get there. The car is waiting outside." Thomas turned, glancing over his shoulder to make sure that they followed after him and Maxwell gave his hand a squeeze.

"Are you okay with this?" Maxwell whispered and Andrew melted.

"I like Thai food." Andrew whispered back, and Maxwell scrunched up his face.

"I meant my Father showing up and bossing you around?" Maxwell whispered back, forcing them to follow after the other two at a small distance. Andrew knew that they could probably hear them, but were being respectful.

"I’m not opposed to it. I find it endearing." Andrew told him. "He cares about you, and I don’t mind being used when it’s for something like this." Andrew told him and Maxwell grumbled.

"I was hoping to have a quiet lunch with just the two of us." He complained and Andrew laughed.

"We’ll have plenty of time for that. This way we are killing two birds with one stone anyways. Do you not like Thai food?" Andrew asked and Maxwell sighed, running his free hand through his hair. It barely moved, like Maxwell wanted.

"No, I like it. I just...damn him, he’s a meticulous planner." Maxwell muttered and Andrew glanced around, before leaning down and pressing a kiss against Maxwell’s forehead.

"We can only say you learned from the best." Andrew told him, his eyes sparkling as he stared down at him with open affection. Maxwell’s ears turned pink.

"Don’t seduce me so openly. I’ll get embarrassed." Maxwell protested and Andrew laughed.

"Ah, but that’s the point. I think it’s cute when you blush." Andrew told him and Maxwell swatted his shoulder with his free hand. Andrew was laughing as they joined the other two at the car. It wasn’t quite a limo, but it wasn’t a small car either. It was clearly meant for carrying several people at a time, safely, but in comfort.

"Get in you three." Thomas told them, his grey eyes sparkling as he looked them over. "The restaurant just called and let me know our order is ready."
