Chapter 97: Chapter 97 - Starfall Showdown Tournament Part 15

"Finally, I’m up against you," Vespak said angrily. "I’ll pay you back for punching me in the face earlier!"

"Sorry, I don’t accept returns." Zion smiled, stretching his body for his match.

"You think you have time to crack jokes?" His energy surged, engulfing the entire arena where he would be fighting Zion. For the first time today, an event wasn’t held in a fracture, so everyone could feel the intensity of his power.

"Against someone as weak as you, I can crack jokes all day."

"Heh, hehe, hahahahahaha! I get it, I understand what type of person you are. Fine, I’ll crack a joke as well."

"Oh? Let me hear it."

"I’ll give you the first hit without even moving a muscle. That way, everyone will see how much of a joke you are."

Zion stared at him blankly for a minute, trying to understand if he had heard the guy correctly. "Hahahahaha! Oh god, that was funny. My belly hurts. Haha, fine, I accept. But once you lose, don’t give me that shit about you holding back or anything like that." Zion released his energy, clashing with Vespak’s own.

He was surprised, no, everyone was. They couldn’t believe that his mana was matching the strength of someone from the dragon race.

’Shit! Did I make a mistake?’ Vespak asked himself.

"BEGIN!"

In one step, Zion bridged the gap between him and his opponent, and he punched Vespak so hard ne not only broke his scales, but also his neck, sending him flying out of the entire stadium and into some random building in the kingdom.

Silence. No one said a word. No one coughed. No one gasped. No one made a single sound. Why? They were in shock. Their minds couldn’t keep up with what they just saw.

"YEAHHHHH!!! THAT’S MY BABY!! WAY TO GO SON!!" Zaleena yelled, breaking the silence.

"YEAHHHHHH!!!"

"WOOOOOOOO!!!"

"LET’S GOOOOOO!!!"

"ZION! ZION! ZION! ZION!"

Zion bowed to the crowd, showcasing that he could indeed best someone from the dragon race.

"Honestly, I didn’t believe that he could win, but after seeing that? Oh yeah, I’m convinced." Someone said.

"We can actually win this!"

"Human’s on top, baby! Don’t let us down, Zion!"

"See! See! I told you my son was strong! Ha! Way to go, sweetie!" Zaleena didn’t hold back her praise and shouted at the top of her lungs.

All the important figures were now truly interested to see how powerful he was. It was one thing hearing it, but after seeing it? They wanted to see more.

"Don’t let us down, Dalys. Put that human bastard in his place!" Taruak shouted with anger.

"I know."

Stepping into the arena was Zion’s next opponent. The second drake of the dragon participants.

"Don’t think I’ll make the same mistakes Vespak did," Dalys said, her eyes focused and her tone cold.

"Doesn’t matter, you’ll lose anyway." Zion waved her off.

"That arrogance will cost you."

"Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?" He asked, smiling.

Dalys had no response as he was referring to the dragon race. The moment one of them lost to a weaker race, they lost their ability to be arrogant, since it would only make them a hypocrite.

"Very well, human, no, Zion Zagan. Show me what you got."

"BEGIN!"

The sky cracked with thunder, though no storm brewed above. Zion stood calm at the center of the arena, fists clenched, mana pulsing beneath his skin like liquid fire. His eyes burned with focused intensity, but he was having fun.

Across from him, Dalys hovered slightly above the ground, her long purple hair flowing unnaturally. Her aura shimmered with energy, runes swirling around her fingertips as she prepared her next spell.

"You’re fast," she admitted, voice steady, "So fast that even Vespak couldn’t keep up with your speed, but you can’t outrun aetherfire."

She unleashed a cascade of blazing spells, each one pulsing with deadly precision. The spells screamed through the air, then stopped. Or rather, they should have hit.

Zion wasn’t there.

A sudden crack of stone behind her was the only warning.

Dalys whirled, but she was too slow.

Zion’s fist slammed into her midsection like a cannon. Her body folded inward before she was launched backward, skidding across the ground, demolishing the stone path in a trail of smoke and debris.

Dalys coughed, blood on her lips. "How—"

Zion blurred again, appearing just above her. His heel came down like a meteor, but she threw up a shield just in time, only for it to shatter on impact. The ground crumpled beneath her.

She staggered up, summoning a spear of frost and hurling it toward him with a shout. Zion leaned aside with casual grace, the projectile brushing past him.

"You rely too much on magic," he said, cracking his neck. "You’ve forgotten how to fight."

Before she could respond, he was already inside her guard. A flurry of strikes, clean, brutal, and unrelenting, hammered into her ribs, shoulders, and jaw.

He picked her up by the face, clutching it tightly, and slammed his fists into her ribs multiple times in a second, the speed and force shattering her scales and bones.

"Pathetic." He said, dropping her on the ground, then kicking her out of the arena.

"I thought dragons were supposed to be powerful! What happened? Don’t tell me this is all you have to offer? What a disappointment." He shook his head

The crowd went wild at his showing of dominance and arrogance, but they loved it.

"Come on, show me what you’re truly made of! You know what, how about both wyverns come and fight me at the same time, that way, it will actually be a challenge!"

"He’s insane!"

"Yeah! Show them who’s boss!"

"Go Zion, Go!"

"How dare that human! I’ll teach him a lesson!" Taurok stormed onto the stage with fury in his eyes.

"If you think you’ll have an easy time against a wyvern, then you’re in for a treat! Get ready, I’ll put you in your place!"

"Begin!"

Zion turned around and was about to walk off the stage.

"What are you doing?!" Taurok asked

"If you and Kaida don’t fight me at the same time, then I’m leaving. It’s not fun fighting one weak person at a time."

"How dare-"

"Do it," Drakoth announced.

"Father!" Kaida tried to protest

"I said, do it. Give him and the people what they want. If he loses, then that’s on him."

Zion smiled and walked back to the center of the area. Kaida, who just arrived, looked pissed and wasn’t in the mood for his games.

Kaida pointed her finger at Zion in anger. "My pride as a wyvern has been stained because of you! I’ll make sure to-"

He cut her off. "I dong give a fuck bitch. Just get ready to fight."
