Chapter 80: Chapter 80 - Inside the Fracture Part 2

Luna stabbed the ground with her staff, and a massive sheet of ice froze every Komodo Dragon in place. The ice was slowly melting, but it gave everyone else enough time to act and start killing them. She followed up by unleashing a spell called [Ice Moon], where a massive circular iceball in the shape of the moon blew up on top of the Komodo Dragons, freezing them in an eternal frost.

"Nice going, Luna!" Lars shouted as he beheaded multiple lizards in one swift motion, as Kaitlin followed close to him, doing the same thing.

Eliza waved her wand and vines sprouted from the ground, entangling the lizards and crushing them under their strength; however, they soon caught flame and burned away, so she switched to arcane magic instead. [Star Shower] Summoning multiple orbs of magic that homed towards their targets, they tore through them upon impact.

As for the remaining lizards that were managing to break free from the ice, Zion used his aura force to grab all of their heads, and once he clinched his fists, blood and lava exploded from their bodies as their heads were crushed under the pressure of his mana.

But even after all of that, their battle still wasn’t over. More and more Komodo Dragons came crawling out of the canyon, and other lizard-like creatures started crawling from out of the ground, charging at the group with the intention to kill the intruders.

"We’ll be surrounded if this keeps up!" Lars yelled.

Luna looked to her left, then right, and nodded her head as she assessed the situation. "I’ll handle it. [Frost Nova]". As if a volcano went off, a massive eruption that spewed spikes of ice covered the area, impaling every lizard that was caught in the blast.

A massive pillar of ice shot up into the sky, and hundreds of lizards who had died from the intense cold were trapped in it. Luna clenched one fist and stabbed her staff onto the ground once more, and the ice pillar broke into thousands of smaller icicles that rained down on the fire-filled lizards like a machine gun.

"I’ll increase your strength," Eliza said as she summoned a magic circle onto the hot but now frozen ground that amplified Luna’s magical power temporarily.

At last, after nearly an hour of relentless combat, the lizard onslaught ceased, leaving them a moment to finally catch their breath.

"Eliza, heal us," Kaitlin ordered

"Don’t tell me what to-"

"Shut up and do it." Zion cut her off.

"Tsk." She reluctantly did as she was told, healing Kaitlin’s burns before moving to Lars. She was going to make Zion beg her to heal him, but once she finished with Lars, she saw that he was completely fine and was healing Luna himself.

After everyone was patched up, Kaitling spoke up. "I think it’s best to relocate to a better area. The damaged terrain here could impact our ability to defend ourselves."

"I agree." Lars nodded.

Everyone else agreed, so they started moving again. Along the way, they encountered more and more monsters, each battle becoming harder and harder. There were even some lizard-men who stood on two legs and had stone weapons that were coated with lava.

After three hours of nonstop fighting with barely time to rest in between, it had felt like every monster had been killed in the fracture.

"We fought all of those monsters, and yet we haven’t come across a Wrym yet." Getting his arm healed, Lars looked around the area to see if they had missed something.

"Maybe the instructors were wrong about a Wrym being here." Eliza thought.

"We shouldn’t let our guards down. Wyrms sometimes burrow beneath the ground, so we should stay on our toes." Kaitlin spoke in a commanding tone.

[Area completely analyzed. Showing map now.]

A 3D holographic map of the fracture digitized itself in front of Zion. The fracture was small, about the size of a large city, and it even showed the locations Zion and the group had been at.

Zion and the others were marked as five small white dots on the map, which was easy to understand. He then saw a giant red dot coming in their direction.

’What does that red dot mean? Is it the lava flow of that nearby volcano?’ Zion asked Tessa.

[The red dot is for enemies.] Tessa affirmed

’So that means a bunch of monsters are coming our way.’

[Incorrect. Multiple monsters would be indicated by multiple red dots. A large red dot means a large monster is coming your way.]

’Oh.’ He nodded

"Oh." He said aloud

"OHHHHH!!! GET OUT OF THE WAY NOW!!" Zion shouted, pulling everyone back with his aura force, allowing them to get a head start on their retreat.

"What? What’s happenin-" Before Kaitlin could finish, a massive mouth tore through the ground, swallowing anything that was trapped in its jaws.

When the large creature landed on the ground, everything shook like an earthquake, testing everyone’s balance and disrupting volcanoes in the distance, causing them to erupt.

"Well, there goes your Wyrm, Lars." Eliza gulped as she stared at the towering snake-like creature that snorted steam from its nose with the head of a dragon.

"I thought you said Wyrms don’t have legs!" Lars shouted at Zion

"I said sometimes!" Zion shouted back

Just then, the wyrm’s throat bulged, a wet gurgle rumbling up from its chest like a warning. The swelling rose, climbing higher until it reached its maw—and with a sudden snap of its jaws, a torrent of molten lava erupted forth.

"Woah!"

"Watch out!"

"I thought you said they don’t have a breath attack!" Lars shouted at Zion

"That wasn’t a breath attack! It was spit!" Zion shouted back.

"Breath attack, spit, same thing! We need to take that thing down!" Kaitlin yelled.

Lars pointed his sword at the wyrm’s head. "Aim for its weak points!"

"I’ll hold it in place!" Eliza waved her wand around, and a magic circle appeared underneath the wyrm, and chains sprang forth, wrapping around the massive creature.

Zion surged forward in a blur, drawing a blade from his suit that crackled with plasma. With a single strike, he severed one of the creature’s legs, only to reel back in shock as its blood poured out, searing hot and glowing like molten lava.

"Be careful! Its blood is as hot as lava!" He shouted.

[Frost Blade] Luna summoned two massive swords made of ice that hovered over the wyrm. She brought them both down with all her strength, but they barely managed to crack their scales, drawing only a bit of blood.

"Hurry! I can’t hold this forever!" Eliza urged as blood ran down her nose.

Lars and Kaitlin launched into the air, swords gleaming as they aimed for the wyrm’s eyes, channeling their energy into a single, decisive strike. But before they could land the blow, the beast snapped the chain coiled around its neck and reared up, unleashing a blast of molten spit that engulfed them mid-flight.

Luna raised a wall of ice in desperation, but it evaporated instantly under the wyrm’s molten breath. Nearby, Eliza dropped to her knees, coughing blood as the strain of her depleted mana took its toll. Zion unleashed his aura force, yanking Lars and Kaitlin out of the spit’s path and hurling them forward, straight toward the wyrm.

"Haha! Nice one!" Lars shouted as he and Kaitlin both landed on the wyrm’s head, stabbing into its eyes. But as Zion tried to warn them, its blood got onto their skin, burning parts of their body.

"Arghhh!!!" They both yelled in unison.

Shit! Luna, get Eliza to safety! Zion shouted, rocketing toward Lars and Kaitlin. He was so focused on reaching them that he never saw the wyrm’s massive tail swinging around—until it crashed into his back, sending him hurtling into a jagged rock formation with a thunderous impact.

The wyrm jerked back its head, flinging Lars and Kaitlin into the air, and opened its maw as it attempted to swallow them whole.

"Oh shit!" Negan was about to act and save them, but before he could, a beam of light pierced through the neck of the wyrm, forcing its mouth to close and tumble to the side.
