Chapter 409: XLIV. Confidentiality Agreement
Chapter 409: XLIV. Confidentiality Agreement
"You were very quiet at the lord’s residence yesterday, not your usual style. Is something on your mind?"
Celeste, as the East Sea Commissioner, was now Liszt’s assistant and watcher on behalf of the Lostra Sect. At the lord’s residence yesterday, you couldn’t expect that bunch of abstracts to discuss any business.
It was mainly Celeste interacting with the Rebellious Marquis, while "Liszt" and the rest of the core members made decisions. As an outsider, she became an external brain for Black Sail.
The others were either busy showing off or extremely interested in the beauties offered by the Rebellious Marquis.
The terms they finally agreed on were also quite acceptable.
The Rebellious Marquis was Aran’s dog on the surface, unable to do anything, but he expressed support for Lostra and Black Sail, allowing them to use Golden Palm Port as a base and granting them the greatest authority there, even allowing them to station troops.
But the Rebellious Marquis kept his distance from the Seventh Amendment, stating he wouldn’t get involved with those people, and the agreement only applied to Lostra and Black Sail.
It wasn’t just last night.
For the past few days, Celeste had felt that something was off with Liszt.
Her observation skills were extremely detailed. As one of the top espionage personnel in the world, Liszt had been quite abnormal these past few days: firstly, he showed no interest in women, secondly, his loquaciousness was gone, and thirdly... the most obvious, his aura was just different, lacking that impudent and shameless vigor.
But Celeste hadn’t considered someone impersonating him yet, she just thought Liszt was hiding something.
Kai Deng took the opportunity to get off the slope.
"It’s just that coming to the inland, I’m not used to it and feel surrounded by crises. My face has become internet famous, so to speak."
Kai Deng babbled on, trying to maintain some alone time and also find a moment to write a letter reporting progress to Diaz.
Although she had never met Diaz in person.
But Kai Deng understood this man’s nature; he liked to prioritize matters. When he sent Ben previously, it was only a Level 2 priority, but now it had escalated to Level 1.
That also meant Diaz was ready to take action. He was very meticulous, and might even have someone watching her in secret.
It had the flavor of a commander supervising the supervising commander.
"Internet famous, huh? When will you start promoting products with links?"
Celeste chuckled, having mixed with Black Sail for months, she had also learned some of their nonsensical slang. She didn’t understand the meaning, but she got the context.
Seeing Liszt wasn’t in the mood for jokes.
"You’re now a legitimate merchant; the Cross Alliance has dropped their warrant for you. You’re only in danger within Aran’s territory; no one else has the time to look for trouble with you... Um, can you talk to me about any enemies you have that I don’t know about? For instance, how did you get that scar on your face?"
Celeste couldn’t see through the Netherworld Envoy’s sophisticated disguise technique.
She actually wanted to continue a topic they hadn’t finished discussing earlier.
She might have fallen for his trick.
"Haven’t you said before, anything shared is no longer faced alone? I’m the East Sea Commissioner now, and it’s my duty to help you solve some tricky problems, even your psychological health should be considered."
Celeste smoothed out the skirt at her waist and hips to avoid wrinkles when sitting down and slowly sat down in the chair with her legs crossed in a posture that would make anyone think of crime, watching Kai Deng with interest.
Kai Deng swallowed hard, goddamn East Sea Commissioner, with a woman’s intuition, she sensed this nutcase had some interest in Liszt.
What also astounded her was that, during the first two days ashore, Goria and Meredith also played her own game. Although they weren’t very fond of Liszt, they still had to complete the task assigned by their "husband," to exhaust Liszt and prevent him from messing around.
But Kai Deng didn’t have the ’tools’ for the job, in various senses of the term, so she just had to send the two women away.
What made Kai Deng more anxious was that, to avoid showing her hand in front of these two women, she would have to look for the Junlin Sword Master Sword and the descendants of the Radiant Knight once this affair was over.
Liszt’s constitution was special, allowing him to wield the Junlin Sword, whereas Kai Deng lacked this unique skill—it could be deadly for her if she wasn’t careful.
This was her most fatal weakness right now.
"It’s a long story."
Kai Deng didn’t want to talk about this topic. How would he know where this scar came from? It might have been self-inflicted to look tough, just like Ni Ge, the fruit’s owner.
Celeste let out a long sigh. She didn’t understand why Liszt fluctuated between cold and hot, or why one moment he was frisky and the next, he was abstinent—it was like he had two faces.
She naturally didn’t get along with the temperament of young girls.
"Although I haven’t been officially disclosed in Lostra’s official documents, my identity is already transparent to you now. Unless something unexpected happens, I can no longer engage in intelligence work. Whenever you die is when I’ll retire. Do you understand?"
Indeed, Celeste had fallen into Liszt’s trap.
The hidden message was that Celeste was now completely following Liszt.
Liszt had three elements for picking up girls—economic value, emotional value, and the binding value of a shared destiny. Unwittingly, he had already half-conquered Celeste.
Kai Deng felt uneasy. Now that he was alone in the room with Celeste, who was quite infatuated with Liszt, it seemed like she was going to become the other woman.
If Liszt himself didn’t stoke the fire now, he really wouldn’t have an excuse. This woman was also a special agent who had already sensed something was amiss. Continuing to hold back would definitely not end well for him.
But Kai Deng wasn’t made of neodymium copper. To be honest, even though he had killed Liszt, that kiss was quite thrilling. He was a straightforward woman.
Should he proceed?
Kai Deng was numb to the situation. It wasn’t going to go as far as having a relation, but should he plant a kiss to show some gesture?
Seeing Celeste’s eyes growing darker, Kai Deng knew he couldn’t delay any longer. "Damn it," he thought, "time to go all in."
"Big brother... not cultured, big brother... not fond of speaking, but big brother loves you."
Kai Deng bizarrely began to imitate Rein. Killing people was no issue for her, but dealing with emotional matters made her nervous. In a state of stress, these words naturally came to mind.
"Tsck..."
Celeste was dumbfounded. What was this all about? Her fondness plummeted from 60% to 5% in an instant, leaving her completely disinterested. "This is too unsophisticated, isn’t it? You might as well have just come over and kissed me."
"I’m out."
Celeste felt disgusted and left the suite with her arms crossed.
Kai Deng breathed a sigh of relief, having narrowly averted the emotional crisis. As soon as Celeste stepped out, Kai Deng immediately began covertly stirring things up, picking up paper and quill to report back to the Thief Guild headquarters.
Yet, she chose selectively, opting to omit some explosive details that could potentially change the direction of the world.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in Golden Palm Port, the core members of Black Sail were also reveling, for they, excluding areas controlled by Aran, had already come ashore, except for the countries from which they were individually wanted.
Archer couldn’t return to Ji Weng, and Shadi couldn’t return to Summer Sunset Island.
Inside a tavern.
Before the representatives of the Seventh Amendment arrived, they could enjoy their nights of revelry.
"To be fair, Rein, you could already go back to the Chenfeng Plateau, right? There’s no one there to kill you."
Shadi remarked.
Rein didn’t want to discuss that. The Starving Wolf Adventure Group were all highlanders who came down together to make a living, and the teammates were all from the same town. Now, the locals back there believed he was the one who killed someone, so why bother returning to that mess.
"By the way, where exactly is Brother Sha’s hometown? You’ve never mentioned it, and I’d like to know where to send your ashes if you died one day."
Rein attempted to change the subject.
Morison was also quite drunk, his face flushed and ears red. Golden Palm Port was chaotic, and there was no new product or expansion pack from the Lostra-based card game company, which left him somewhat depressed.
"Do you really want to know?"
Morison smirked without mirth. That wasn’t something covered by the confidentiality agreement, indeed.
