Chapter 225: Chapter 183: The Mount Longhu Orthodox Celestial Master Sect!
Li Ping’an, followed by a line of cultivators waiting to enter, was harried by their urging, making him extremely irritated. He immediately glanced at that wooden board and was startled to discover that numbers were written under the Four Great Noble Paths, namely the four great sects—Flame Cloud Sect, Qingyun Sect, Heavenly Mist Sect, and Immeasurable Sect—indicating the number of people who had come.
These had already been confirmed, suggesting that everyone had arrived.
Looking next at the Kunlun Sect, Hehuan Sect, Yanyue Sect, Mount Shu, and other mid-sized sects, he saw numbers as well and assumed that nearly everyone had gathered. Even if he tried to slip in unnoticed, he figured that these three Taoist boys would consult the disciples of these sects to verify his identity, and he would still be driven out eventually.
Helpless, Li Ping’an continued to look down and noticed something odd. That is, there were no numbers under the names of smaller schools and sects such as Heavenly Talisman Sect, Mount Longhu, Zhengyi Temple, Zhishou Temple, Qixuan Sect, Huangyun Valley, etc.
Did that mean these sects were invited but had sent no delegates?
Li Ping’an, in his eagerness to mingle in Moyun Temple and see Zixia, adopted a try-your-luck attitude. Under the exasperated urging of the crowd, he glanced quickly and quipped:
"I, Li Ping’an from Mount Longhu, register now!"
"Hahaha! Right, right! Registering now, registering now!"
To Li Ping’an’s surprise, as soon as he identified himself as a disciple of Mount Longhu, these Taoist boys, along with the surrounding cultivators, underwent a change of attitude, their faces bright with delight, some even covering their mouths to giggle, leaving Li Ping’an utterly baffled.
Taking advantage of the registration Taoist boy scribbling down the record, Li Ping’an brazenly asked with a smile:
"Why did your attitude change so much the moment I said I was a disciple of Mount Longhu?"
"Hahaha! Mount Longhu, nice, hahaha!"
The registering Taoist boy chuckled shamefully while signing him in, as if he had heard an extremely funny joke.
Yet Li Ping’an read something unusual in the eyes of him and the cultivators around, which piqued his curiosity, prompting him to ask again:
"What’s with Mount Longhu? I see there are no numbers under Mount Longhu on that board?"
"You seem quite pleased with yourself!"
The registering Taoist boy said with a sneer:
"You minor sects, it doesn’t matter whether you send people or not, even a thousand or ten thousand would make no difference. After all, the Grand Ritual of the Heavenly Master has nothing to do with you. You’re just here to make up the numbers, hahaha!"
"Hahaha!"
Following the Taoist boy’s mockery, the rest of the cultivators also burst into derisive laughter. Two welcoming Taoist boys, pointing at Li Ping’an’s Hundred Plays Nuo Mask, said:
"Take off the mask. Let us see, what does a disciple of Mount Longhu look like?"
"No way!"
Li Ping’an certainly wasn’t there to show off today, and he didn’t want the people from the Flame Cloud Sect to remember his face, so he refused sternly:
"I have a pimple on my face that would be unsightly, that’s why I’m wearing a mask."
"I bet you’re just afraid of embarrassment, hahaha!"
"No wonder you just pretended to be a disciple of Qingyun Sect and Kunlun Sect. It turns out you also know that being a disciple of Mount Longhu is shameful!"
"Mount Longhu is practically on the verge of losing its lineage, with barely a dozen disciples remaining, all of whom are useless. Now I see why those from Mount Longhu dare not show their true faces—you’re all a bunch of cowards indeed! Hahaha!"
"Hahaha!"
The three Taoist boys, along with the other cultivators in line, all began to ridicule Li Ping’an.
Only then did Li Ping’an understand why after claiming to be a disciple of Mount Longhu, their attitude had changed so drastically; they were there to mock him.
"Damn it, cultivating just to rank people! I want to see today what the so-called eminent and orthodox sects are really like! Hmph!"
Li Ping’an wasn’t angry, for he had previously gathered intelligence on the Four Great Sects and other sects from the loose-lipped Mahaparinirvana, the Monk Who Broke Precepts. However, he had never imagined that Mount Longhu, once the largest sect a hundred years ago, had declined to such a state.
"Go ahead. You, from Mount Longhu, you better take a good look today! Hahaha!"
"Hmph!"
After giving the crowd a disdainful glance, Li Ping’an finally made his way smoothly into Moyun Temple.
What a place Moyun Temple was—truly an Imperial Taoist Temple, spanning nearly a hundred acres, covered everywhere with lush, sky-obscuring trees and surrounded by corridors.
Li Ping’an first entered through the mountain gate, where to the left and right stood statues of the Four Heavenly Kings, who were meant to protect the common people. Looking closely, however, he saw each statue emanated an evil aura, more akin to cannibalistic evil spirits and demons than benevolent deities, terribly frightening. With just one glance, Li Ping’an was struck by a sensation of oppressive force, as if the Four Heavenly Kings might come to life at any moment and devour him whole.
Moving further inside, he encountered a massive stone screen depicting Sun Wukong’s disruption of the Heavenly Palace a thousand years ago. Sun Wukong was surrounded by celestial soldiers and generals, but he was not afraid in the least, magically transforming into a form with three heads and six arms, calmly facing their onslaught.
It was only upon seeing this stone screen of Sun Wukong causing chaos in the Heavenly Palace that Li Ping’an’s suppressed emotions calmed a little, dispelling the fear he had felt at the sight of the Four Heavenly Kings.
Past the stone screen, he was confronted with the hall of the chief protector among the Taoist Heavenly Gods, Wang Lingguan. Before even entering, just standing at the entrance, Li Ping’an experienced once again the oppressive sensation he had felt when confronting the Four Heavenly Kings, and a terrifying, barely visible evil aura wafted out from Wang Lingguan’s hall.
The other halls were those of various Taoist Heavenly Gods, each commanding a similar oppressive aura before one even stepped inside—truly a sinister sight!
With the experience of previously trespassing in the Future Buddha Hall of Buddha Bone Temple as a lesson, Li Ping’an now dared not enter the halls of either the Taoist or the Buddhist sects, even though he himself was now a disciple of Daoism.
