Chapter 181: Chapter 165: The Genius’s Enemy!

"Immortal Pei, are you leaving just like that? Won’t you stay for a cup of tea? Or perhaps to chat a bit? I was hoping you would pass a message to your master for me..."

Seeing that he couldn’t keep Pei Yuanjing there, Cen Wenjin pulled in his highly competent steward, Cen San, to help persuade him. As a result of this entanglement, Pei Yuanjing was hooked!

Behind him lay Xie Wenren, ill in bed, his eyes and tone devoid of any respect for Pei Yuanjing, just as Pei Yuanjing was about to leave, he blurted out:

"Pei Yuanjing! The Defrocked Monk Maha is a disciple of Emperor Tathagata, untouchable by anyone, I understand. But what about Li Ping’an? He is, after all, a man without a sect or school, just like us Taoist cultivators. He is even more formidable than you! His realm is even higher! Are you afraid of him too?"

"Oh?"

Pei Yuanjing suddenly paused, his eyes sparking with intensity, he turned back and stared intently into Xie Wenren’s eyes:

"Xie Wenren, you think you understand me, so you purposely provoke me? You want me to kill Li Ping’an for you as revenge and to save face?"

The transformed Xie Wenren leaned on the bed railing, answering calmly:

"Pei Yuanjing, haven’t you already exiled me from the Flame Cloud Sect? Since I’m no longer a member of the Flame Cloud Sect, what use is there in provoking you to save face for me? Use your brain, fool!"

Pei Yuanjing wasn’t angry but became even more excited:

"You call him a man without sect or school, yet he is even stronger than me? How much stronger can he be?"

Xie Wenren pretended to be envious as he spoke:

"An Earth Immortal! A full-fledged Earth Immortal!"

"What? An Earth Immortal?"

Cen Wenjin had heard from Xie Wenren about Li Ping’an’s prowess, but he hadn’t realized Li Ping’an was this formidable, nearly catching up to Sect Master Zhuge Junchen of the Flame Cloud Sect. He was visibly stunned!

"Ridiculous!"

Pei Yuanjing tested further:

"He has no sect or school, hence no cultivation methods. Even if he were an unprecedented cultivation prodigy, how could he possibly cultivate to become an Earth Immortal? Are you treating me like a pig, trying to trap me with this story?"

"Pei Yuanjing, don’t be so conceited! Have you forgotten that I am an Artifact Refiner? Do you think I would lie about something so crucial? Fine, see for yourself then!"

Xie Wenren pulled out a pea-sized stone, still stained with blood, and threw it into Pei Yuanjing’s hand!

This very stone was the one with which Li Ping’an had injured him; he had spit it out before, only to subtly store it in his sleeve when he was being carried away by the ruffians, thinking to show it to Sect Master Zhuge Junchen of the Flame Cloud Sect someday to prove that he was not useless, not intending to shame the Flame Cloud Sect, but because the opponent was simply too strong. But now, there was no need for that anymore.

"..."

Pei Yuanjing took the stone silently and placed it in his palm, where suddenly a small, yellow formation appeared, bursting forth with flames that scorched the small stone.

After the flames had dissipated, Pei Yuanjing trembled all over, his spirits immediately invigorated as if he had discovered some treasure, his lips curling into a slight smile, he excitedly said:

"Indeed! Xie Wenren, you lost with no injustice. I’ve changed my mind, you may stay in the Flame Cloud Sect!"

"There’s no need!"

Xie Wenren’s heart was already dead. What he was thinking now was to kill both Li Ping’an and Pei Yuanjing before making any plans—this uncompassionate Flame Cloud Sect was not worth staying in!

"Have it your way then!"

Pei Yuanjing now couldn’t be bothered to deal with Xie Wenren, who he deemed worthless, as his mind was wholly occupied with thoughts of how to defeat Li Ping’an, the Earth Immortal. In his excitement, he accidentally crushed a small stone in his hand and tossed it aside, where it turned into dust.

"Where is the Li Ping’an you’re speaking of now?"

No sooner had Pei Yuanjing asked the question than Cen Wenjin, who had been enjoying the drama, knew Pei Yuanjing had fallen into a trap. He immediately called out to Iron Staff Wang Lang, who was waiting outside for orders:

"Wang Lang, come in!"

"Yes, master!"

As soon as Iron Staff Wang Lang stepped inside, he sensed three different moods, Cen Wenjin’s schadenfreude, Pei Yuanjing’s excitement, and Xie Wenren’s gloom.

"You must tell Immortal Pei where Li Ping’an is now!"

Iron Staff Wang Lang quickly bowed and truthfully said:

"I have found out the hiding place of Li Ping’an. He is concealed within an abandoned dwelling at Wolong Pit in Chang’an, right next to the Dragon Locking Well at the very center of the pit! As it’s already dark, he’s staying there, and if we go looking, he cannot escape!"

"Fallen Dragon Pit?"

Pei Yuanjing, who was not from Chang’an and was considered an outsider, didn’t know what the Fallen Dragon Pit was, nor was he aware of the legends concerning the pit. However, Cen Wenjin, the official from Chang’an, knew of the dangers of the Fallen Dragon Pit, and quickly warned:

"The Fallen Dragon Pit is the most dangerous place in Chang’an. There..."

"Alright, alright, it doesn’t matter where he lives, I just want to challenge him. I’m going back to Flame Cloud Taoist Temple to ask my master to agree to the challenge!"

Pei Yuanjing was truly arrogant, outright dismissing the legends about the Fallen Dragon Pit.

The Fallen Dragon Pit was not only dangerous, but it was also Li Ping’an’s territory. One must know that the Dragon King of the Jing River, a formidable deity, was Li Ping’an’s supporter. Pei Yuanjing was destined to pay the price for his arrogance!

Iron Staff Wang Lang suddenly interjected:

"Should we inform The Night Traveler’s Bureau about this matter?"

"No need, Li Ping’an has no sect or faction, and The Night Traveler’s Bureau won’t bother with him."

Cen Wenjin and Iron Staff Wang Lang went back and forth, purposely suggesting to Pei Yuanjing that he could freely slaughter tonight!

"I will take my leave now!"

By then, Pei Yuanjing had realized that Cen Wenjin, Xie Wenren, and the others had deliberately lured him here, baiting his appetite with some hidden agenda, but the competitive desire Li Ping’an, the Earth Immortal stirred in him was too enticing. He didn’t mind being used by these villains and, unable to wait any longer, pushed past Cen Wenjin and the butler Cen San blocking the door, and flew back to the Flame Cloud Taoist Temple on a gust of wind.

As Pei Yuanjing left, Cen Wenjin looked out at the thick night enveloping the house and said:

"Immortal Xie, do you think your master, Sect Master Zhuge Junchen of the Flame Cloud Sect, will agree to Pei Yuanjing seeking out Li Ping’an for a challenge?"

To kill Li Ping’an and Pei Yuanjing, Xie Wenren, enduring severe pain, got off his bed and tremblingly walked over to Cen Wenjin and replied sinisterly:

"As I said before, Zhuge Junchen listens to everything Pei Yuanjing says, indulging his whims. Moreover, since the opponent is the unaffiliated Li Ping’an, Zhuge Junchen will definitely agree!"

"Lord Cen, I forgot to remind you that Zhuge Junchen is no longer my master. I will be leaving soon, but before I go, I hope to borrow your place for a bath, change of clothes, and kindly prepare 1000 taels of silver as my compensation for helping you use Pei Yuanjing to kill Li Ping’an."

"Alright! No problem! Someone come, attend to Immortal Xie while he changes and bathes!"

Cen Wenjin casually called a maid nearby, and Xie Wenren went to bathe with the help of the maid.
