Chapter 122: Chapter 118 Ghost Mother Yaksha

Yuan Qingfeng made up his mind and looked resolutely into the depths of Jiuyan Spring, saying,

"Li Ping’an’s abilities are all hyped up on the internet, and though my friend said so based on what he witnessed firsthand, it wasn’t with my own eyes. So, to confirm whether Li Ping’an is going to fool us, we have to go and see for ourselves."

With that, the group of societal elites, who had no desire to approach that haunted place, collectively headed toward the depths of Jiuyan Spring. They were intending to test the authenticity of Li Ping’an, while Yuan Furong was very concerned about Li Ping’an’s safety.

Jiuyan Spring is a massive natural lake, named for the nine active springs within it, according to the legend. There’s only one path from the park to the depths of Jiuyan Spring, and following this path leads to the deepest part of the Spring.

However, this path has only been constructed for a little over fifty meters from the center to the edge of the lake. At this location, there’s a structure called Lake Heart Pavilion, and right behind it is the water-borne Silver Dragon Hotel, which had become an unfinished building due to the haunting deaths.

Li Ping’an was walking alone on the road to the Lake Heart Pavilion when he saw both sides of the road covered with trees stretching to the lake’s edge, lush and vibrant.

But for some reason, as soon as someone got close to the lake or entered the forest, they would automatically be engulfed by a chilling and eerie sensation.

Li Ping’an had walked less than a hundred meters along the dirt road to the shore when he noticed that not a single bird chirped, and suddenly a layer of grey mist rose from the woods on both sides. Even in the heat of summer, at midday, the strong sunlight couldn’t penetrate, adding an even more ghostly atmosphere.

Fifteen minutes later, Li Ping’an finally reached the lakeside and meticulously observed the almost black waters.

"Yuan Furong told me that the workers who once built the water-borne hotel here mysteriously drowned, but the autopsy reports showed they were burned alive. It looks like the problem lies within these wicked waters!"

Crouching down, Li Ping’an took a closer look at the lake, which appeared to be very clear. Yet, when he threw a stone into it, it disappeared after sinking about a meter, and instead, a surge of black mud rose to the surface.

"Let’s see what you are all about! Secluded Cave!" Li Ping’an exclaimed.

As soon as Li Ping’an unleashed his Divine Power: Insight into the Hidden, he could clearly see that below one meter, the water was shrouded in dense black energy. The source of this black energy was located at the position of the Lake Heart Pavilion, and he would have to go there to see what exactly was hidden inside.

"This world is different from the world of ’Black Myth: The Fated One’. I have to be very careful when casting spells and catching ghosts; I can’t have incidents like those with the female streamer Zhou Shufenzi and the Silver Dragon Hotel being exposed again!"

Li Ping’an squinted his eyes to ensure no one was sneaking peeks or taking photos all around.

Once assured that there was no one around, the confident Li Ping’an didn’t even take out any equipment or weapons from his storage gourd. He took a deep breath, then stepped into the lake.

"Borrowing Wind!"

Just then, a group of people suddenly ran up behind Li Ping’an - it was Yuan Furong, Yuan Qingfeng, Zhang Chi, and others.

"Damn, they still don’t trust me!" he cursed silently.

Li Ping’an thought about retreating, but deciding not to delay any further and to settle the matter quickly, he continued on proudly. After all, Yuan Furong and Yuan Qingfeng weren’t likely to talk.

"Ping’an, are you trying to commit suicide? Or are you possessed? Come back quickly!"

Yuan Furong had just run over when she saw Li Ping’an inexplicably walking into the lake, a scene identical to those of the workers who had committed suicide.

"President, I told you he’s a fraud, just like those suicidal workers..."

Zhang Chi had only started his sarcastic remark when suddenly, like everyone else who witnessed it, he was shocked into silence, his tongue stuck out and unable to retract, as he stared dumbfounded at the scene before him that shattered their preconceptions.

They saw Li Ping’an’s right foot step onto the lake surface and actually stand on top of the water. Then, as his left foot continued forward, it clearly made contact with the undulating surface of the lake as if he were stepping on solid ground.

As if walking on flat ground, Li Ping’an seemed to have no weight at all, light as a feather, and then continued confidently striding across the increasingly turbulent lake surface.

Everyone present knew of Patriarch Bodhidharma’s story of crossing the river on a reed. Even the mighty Patriarch Bodhidharma needed to step on a single reed to cross the river, but Li Ping’an needed nothing at all—just this scene alone was a miracle, a hundred times more shocking than the videos they had seen online of Li Ping’an catching ghosts.

Step by step, Li Ping’an walked on the water, heading to Lake Heart Pavilion. Strange winds blew from nowhere, not only wrinkling the lake’s surface but also causing the waves to grow taller, heaving and surging, yet Li Ping’an remained steady on top of the water.

To those unaware, it was as if a scene from an immortal hero drama was being filmed, truly as if Li Ping’an, the immortal, was traversing the waters, turning this terrifying place into a divine realm fit for an immortal’s cultivation.

Including Yuan Furong, all the onlookers were at this moment struck dumb with amazement, their minds a blank, unable to take any action other than exchange frightened glances with each other.

Li Ping’an had anticipated their stunned reaction to this scene. Once he dealt with that thing, he just needed to ensure they kept quiet about it. After all, they were all under Yuan Furong’s father’s command. It was also a way to show off a little to those doubting him like Yuan Qingfeng, and to those who were jealous and did not acknowledge him, like Zhang Chi.

"Shocked already? This is just the beginning. There’s more to see!"

Finally, Li Ping’an reached the area in front of Lake Heart Pavilion. He lowered his head to scan the surroundings and eventually stopped his steps, standing on the water’s surface, crouching down, and peering into the depths.

Under the state of Divine Power: Insight into the Hidden, Li Ping’an continuously searched for the thing hidden in the water. Suddenly, a tumultuous wave surged under Li Ping’an’s feet, and when the waves dissipated, a terrifying monster’s face appeared:

A long-haired human head, body covered in red fur, limbs like eagle’s claws holding a red umbrella, with a woman’s body and blood-red eyes.

Li Ping’an was first startled, then bewildered:

This was not an ordinary water ghost!

It was one of the ghostly beings he had seen in the world of "Black Myth: The Fated One," during his time in Chang’an looking for Zixia, when he passed by several temples. In one of the Ksitigarbha Halls, Ksitigarbha King’s Buddha head had transformed into Di Ting’s head, with officials holding up the Ksitigarbha King’s Buddha head, surrounded by Ghost Generals. And beneath one of those Ghost Generals’ feet was this being: Ghost Mother Yaksha!

"That’s not right! Ghost Mother Yaksha is one of the water ghosts in the eighteenth layer of Hell, under the jurisdiction of the Underworld. This water ghost is known for luring mortals into the water to commit suicide, especially enticing children into the water to drown. Because she has devoured many children and her sins are grievous, she was condemned to the eighteenth layer of Hell for eternal imprisonment. How could she possibly appear in the real world?"
