Chapter 53: Missing man
A prime minister’s son staying at his hotel, would not be new considering the number of presidents that have lodged in his hotels during their stay in the country but for one of them to be missing, that was a first considering how well-guarded all his hotels and resorts were.
Those who went missing, were always mostly found doing something very illegal, immoral or embarrassing they did not want anyone to know about. However, none of them had been closely related to a prime minister had ever gone missing.
He sighed completely believing the man must be doing something crazy somewhere. It was hard for him not to feel annoyance at the man who wanted to ruin the reputation of his hotel.
He made up his mind to expose whatever dirty secret the person was involved in regardless of how embarrassing or bad it was as a vengeance for the mess they got him into.
He met Ren standing thoughtfully in his office when he got to work. He ignored the big man and walked to his chair but the more he thought of how serious the case could be, the less he desired to sit down. He ended up standing staring at Ren coldly.
"If all these turn out to be more serious than they should be, what should I do to you?" Haruki’s voice came out even colder than he intended as he met the man’s gaze firmly.
Ren held the icy gaze Haruki had fixed on him for a few seconds before he backed out and looked down. "It is my fault this happened."
"I am glad you recognize that," Haruki murmured before finally feeling the need to sit down.
Ren was in charge of the security of all the hotels and resorts so for someone to go missing long enough for it to get reported, Ren would have to get punished regardless of what the outcome is.
"I need a detailed report on everything you have discovered," Haruki told Kiyoshi when he saw him walk in.
Haruki already had so much to do for the day but with this new development, his mind was fixed on simply finding that man’s son. One thing he couldn’t spare was a spot on their reputation, a reputation they spent so much time and energy building.
"I think you need to face other things, I will investigate the issue and ensure he is found in less than forty-eight hours," Ren who was now sitting suggested. "The boys are already trying to find the man. This is not the first time this is happening, you don’t need to worry too much."
"We need to worry," Kiyoshi spoke before Haruki had the chance to process his words enough to either refute or agree.
Ren’s eyes widened a bit to Kiyoshi’s contradiction. His eyes stared coldly at Kiyoshi as though he was a prey waiting to be devoured by him.
Kiyoshi unfazed by the bigger man’s gaze walked to Haruki and handed a tablet over to him. "He has been missing for three days already," he informed Haruki before Haruki could read the slide on the screen.
"His father is more than just the Prime minister, he had ties with the mafia and he is very dangerous. He is powerful enough to have a news channel talk bad about one of our hotels. I also found out he is coming to the country himself in a couple of days. I think he let us know intentionally. He might be giving us two days to find his son."
The more Haruki heard, the more he struggled to keep his fingers from trembling visibly as he gripped the tablet. He looked down at the screen and scrolled through the slides.
His rage boiled over the more he read. The young man has been missing for more than three days and no one among the security was informed. No one tried to find the man, no one informed him.
He rose from the comfortable swivel chair placing the tablet calmly on the table. "Who am I going to blame for all of these?"
"It is my fault," Ren answered as he stood up. He bowed his tall frame until he looked even shorter than Haruki.
Haruki scoffed. "That does not matter. I want answers in the next twenty-four hours. The police would also need someone to take the fall for it all. It must not have anything to do with all my businesses or I will kill you before it does."
After the threat, Haruki paused and took a deep breath. He wondered if he meant what he said. Could he kill Ren over a missing man? No! But he certainly would if any of their legal businesses got connected to the Yakuza world because of this.
"I am very busy today. I have a meeting in half an hour and I do not want such distractions. Be sure to have answers as I ordered. I will keep the police calm." He turned to Kiyoshi before adding, "Keep the media under control, and find the perfect distraction to keep them off this issue."
The two men accepted the orders verbally before turning to leave after each bowing deeply.
Haruki finally returned to his seat but there was no way his mind could be at ease. He tried to ease his mind constantly repeating mentally that it was all a joke and he could have a good vengeance for all the stress and get it over with.
His phone vibrated. He lifted it and opened the new message. A handsome doctor took a mirror selfie in his walk-in closet wearing his clothes, one he hadn’t worn before but was still his. The man was smiling warmly at him.
The phone vibrated again.
’These are very comfortable, can I keep them?’
His fingers hesitated over the keypad on the screen but he ended up sending an approval.
’Wow! Thanks! I wish you a great day at work.’
He sighed. He had barely started but he was bombarded with threats of losing all his grandfather built. That might be an exaggeration but the son of one of his grandfather’s business partners was missing, there was no way it could not ruin it all.
The media liked any story that could blow up. He sighed reminding himself that he had other people on it and he could relax enough to breathe properly.
He glanced at the picture of the man in whose arms he had cried last night. So many things he wanted to keep locked up in that room happened last night. They were still fresh in his mind. His weakness . . . being weak . . . vulnerable.
He had no time for that though . . .
