Chapter 212: Chapter 166 "Professional Construction
Salted Fish has been out studying for over four months, and Xu Sanye feels like the kid has been gone for a year.
Salted Fish is coming home to take a self-study exam, and he couldn’t be happier; just yesterday, he asked Old Qian to prepare a few extra dishes, and today, early in the morning, he and Old Zhang rushed together in vehicle 002 to Bailong Port Passenger Pier to pick the kid up.
Zhang Junyan and Liu Xinmin heard the news and came, and the four of them stood on the dunship at the passenger pier, chatting idly while waiting for the Bai Shen to dock.
"This one has been gone for over four months; do you guys think Salted Fish has grown taller?"
"I don’t know about growing taller, but one thing is for sure; he must be darker than before."
"Blowing in the sea breeze on the ship every day, even the fairest person would turn dark."
"Being darker is good; it adds a manly stature."
Xu Sanye gazed at the Bai Shen passenger liner that was slowly approaching and thought for a moment before laughing: "Old Zhang, Uncle Liu, come to our place for lunch, Salted Fish is not just our kid, he’s yours too. He rarely comes back, let’s have a good gathering at noon."
"Sure, we’ll come to your place at noon, and we’ll arrange the evening."
The two police stations are so close, very few staff, when combined from both sides, there are less than ten, and they are all relatively older, Zhang Junyan and Uncle Liu indeed treat the two kids like their own.
Xu Sanye lifted his arm to check his watch, pondering, "Let’s skip the evening. After eating, send him off to Binjiang."
Uncle Liu asked puzzledly, "Isn’t the exam the day after tomorrow? Why the rush?"
"Letting him study alone on the ship, we are uneasy, his sister and brother-in-law feel the same. Of course, we want him to go back and check."
Xu Sanye laughed and added, "Moreover, it’s not just his sister and brother-in-law in Binjiang who are worried about him, there’s also Director Yu, and that girl Ningning."
Uncle Liu realized and couldn’t help laughing, "Director Xu, if you don’t have time in the afternoon, we can arrange a car to take him."
"No need for that, let him take the long-distance bus to Binjiang himself. Before he leaves, call the Port Supervision Bureau and have Ningning pick him up from the station; his light motorcycle is still at her place."
"Should we call Director Yu to prepare accommodation in Binjiang?"
"There’s no need for that hassle; going to Binjiang is like coming home to him, you’re still worried he won’t have a place to stay overnight."
"That makes sense." Zhang Junyan nodded, suddenly remembering something, "Director Xu, how’s Xiao Yu’s foot?"
"It’s better, but it’s not fully recovered."
"Will there be any long-term effects?"
"The doctor said there shouldn’t be."
"That’s good."
During the conversation, the Bai Shen had already approached.
A few dock workers went to their respective positions, coordinating with the sailors on the cruise to dock the ship.
Han Yu couldn’t keep chatting with Shao Lei and excitedly leaned over the railing, shouting, "Director Xu, Director Zhang, Uncle Zhang, Uncle Liu, I’m right here!"
"I see you. Why are you wearing a uniform? You don’t look much darker."
"What?"
"Never mind, the ship is crowded with passengers, don’t rush later."
Now, unlike winter, the water level of the Yangtze River is relatively high, making it much easier for passenger liners to dock.
As the railing opened, passengers swarmed out.
After reminding passengers to watch their steps for a few minutes, Han Yu appeared with a travel bag and two cases of Qingdao canned beer.
Xu Sanye took the beers and smiled, "This is good stuff, must have cost quite a bit."
"Not much, I saw people buying it, and thought, constantly visiting Qingdao can’t happen without bringing some local products, asked someone to buy two cases for me."
"Old Zhang, Uncle Liu, look, we’ve got drinks for noon."
Xu Sanye, leading Han Yu, walked towards vehicle 002 parked inside the dunship, laughing along, "We’ll drink one case at noon, and you’ll take the remaining one to Binjiang."
Han Yu, after greeting Zhang Junyan and Uncle Liu, curiously asked, "Take it to Binjiang for what?"
"For Master Han."
"Which Master Han?"
"Ningning’s father, he came to help us fix the radar; we ought to give something in return."
"Alright."
"Salted Fish, hold still."
"Uncle Zhang, what’s up?"
"He has grown taller, Director Xu, look, he really has!"
"Let’s measure when we get back. Let’s go, too many people at the pier, not a place to talk."
As water police, they of course used a water transport.
In the past few months, whenever possible, they made sure to use vehicle 002 instead of a jeep. The vehicles previously allocated to their station, like the tricycle, had long been given to the Criminal Investigation Fourth Squad.
Han Yu couldn’t believe Uncle Zhang had become a driver, managing it quite skillfully, and couldn’t help asking, "Uncle Zhang, when did you learn how to drive a boat?"
"I’ve learned long ago, I even have the license now, a whole bunch of them."
"Director Xu, can you drive 002?"
"Driving 002 is nothing; I drive 001 now. Don’t think you’re the only one learning; actually, we are all learning, even Xiao Yu has enrolled in Open University."
Han Yu was astonished and asked, "Xiao Yu is in Open University?"
Xu Sanye looked at the noticeably taller Salted Fish, sighing, "Things are different now, nothing can be achieved without education. Xiao Yu’s household registration states elementary education, with Old Qian’s teaching, he can keep up, now even his handwriting is more polished than mine.
But having just an elementary education is not enough, sending him to junior high isn’t realistic either. Later, hearing that Open University was enrolling students, where you can attend simply by paying and there are no educational requirements, then receive an adult vocational diploma equivalent to a high school degree upon graduation; we sent him there."
This is skipping junior high and going directly to vocational high.
Han Yu smiled and asked, "Can he keep up?"
"Chinese isn’t a problem, math and physics are a bit tough since he has no foundation. Luckily, it’s Open University, as long as he studies earnestly, getting a diploma shouldn’t be an issue."
