Chapter 102: Chapter 92 Salted Fish’s Special Car
Bailong Port Police Station’s Director Zhang nearly became Xu Sanye’s little brother, and Han Yu thought nothing of it.
After all, they are corporate security and need to follow the guidance of local police authorities, naturally looking up to local police as the "big brother".
Besides, they made a great profit by cooperating with Yanjiang Police Station, so a humble gesture doesn’t hurt their dignity.
In contrast, Director Yu from the City Bureau, Han Yu really didn’t know how to comment.
Although he wore "Makuni" outfits, he didn’t quite seem like a leader. It was not about being modest, but he simply had no presence at all.
He was overly eager to please Xu Sanye, the instructors, Old Zhang, himself, Captain Wang, and even Zhu Baogen, Liang Xiaoyu, and Old Qian.
He would offer cigarettes to everyone he met, and even help them light up.
When he finished handing out his own cigarettes, he sneakily went to buy two packs at Bailong Port, also getting two skewers of candied haws for the new officer Liang Xiaoyu and himself as they were on probation.
His every word and deed felt very meek, much like a criminal begging Yanjiang Police Station for a lighter sentence.
He needed to order more stuff today.
Recalling the matters discussed at the shipyard in the morning, Han Yu finished lunch and went to report to Xu Sanye in the office with his notebook.
"The façade towards the river and the façade toward the shore both need attention. We need to make it visible to people on the river and let those onshore know we are a police institution. This suggestion is worth adopting."
"Then we need to quickly get a big sign made."
"Order the sign, and later I’ll get ’wall grass’ to sign off on it."
"What about the public notice board and blackboard in the first-floor corridor?"
"Do as he says, we should accept all rational suggestions."
Han Yu looked back outside, ensuring Director Yu was still in the canteen and hadn’t come over, couldn’t resist saying, "Director Xu, Director Yu was measuring the dimensions in the southward corridor and prying here and there this morning. It doesn’t look like a survey; what is it exactly that he wants to do?"
Xu Sanye, knowing full well, lit a cigarette and laughed: "Call him over here, I’ll ask him myself."
"Alright."
Han Yu packed up his notebook and hurriedly went to call him.
Hearing Xu Sanye calling him, Director Yu didn’t linger to cozy up to Old Qian anymore, pulled out a cigarette, and followed.
Han Yu poured him a cup of tea, was about to step back but was stopped by Xu Sanye jokingly saying that as the future chief of Yanjiang Police Station, he should be involved in all matters big and small.
Han Yu had no choice but to sit aside with his notebook ready for taking notes.
Director Yu appeared a bit embarrassed but didn’t dare to oppose, managing a smile and asked, "Director Xu, what is it?"
"I was about to ask you. You came here out of the blue, snooping and probing like a spy, even surveying my dunship, collecting my military secrets. Stop being coy, tell me what you really want."
"Director Xu, we’ve known each other for many years, can you save me some face?"
"You come here causing trouble, did you show me any respect?"
"How could I possibly be causing trouble?"
"Then what are you here for?"
Xu Sanye’s expression became stern, commanding without anger.
Director Yu had no choice but to grin and said, "Brother, I want to borrow an office from you and hang the Water Police Station plaque here."
Just yesterday he was thinking about "joining forces" and "affiliate", and in just one night, he was now thinking of hanging the plaque here, growing bolder.
Xu Sanye found it both funny and annoying, banged on the table and shouted, "Scholar Yu, are you trying to forcibly incorporate us, want to take charge of Xu Sanye?"
Director Yu got startled, hurriedly said, "Director Xu, don’t be angry, listen to me. I know my place very well, how could I possibly lead you? I am here to rally to your side, to accept your leadership."
With the City Bureau Director being so genuine in front of the station chief, and as a member of Yanjiang Police Station and Xu Sanye’s close disciple, Han Yu suddenly felt a sense of superiority, thinking the City Bureau wasn’t much after all.
False flattery may pass, but sincere flattery sticks.
Director Yu’s words, Xu Sanye found quite gratifying, signalled him to sit down, and smilingly watched him asking: "Old Yu, you’re already dressed in ’Makuni,’ holding an important position, what are you scheming really?"
"For some respect."
"The city bureau’s leadership doesn’t care, why do you?"
"They don’t need to attend the security meetings at the Provincial Department concerning water security, nor deal with water police station chiefs and political commissioners from other city bureau, nor will they be laughed at by peers managing water security; naturally, they don’t care."
Director Yu took a deep breath, and slightly embarrassed, continued: "Also, people don’t live in a vacuum, last year a classmate called to ask about my situation, I said I am the chief of the Water Police Division. The other day, he called again saying he’ll come to Binjiang for a meeting around Spring Festival.
We’ve been classmates for many years, and were close even back in school. It’s rare for him to visit Binjiang, I have to at least invite him for a meal, show him our unit. If he finds out that Binjiang doesn’t even have a Water Police Division, where would I put my face?"
This colleague, during his first few years assigned to the city bureau, had his days in the spotlight.
Back then, wherever the city bureau leadership went for meetings or inspections at any District County Police Department, they would take him along.
Back then, he wasn’t called Scholar Yu but Yu Dami!
Everyone thought he was bound for great things, yet after so many years, he’s still writing materials.
Remembering all these, Xu Sanye genuinely felt a bit of sympathy, quietly asked: "What position does your classmate hold now?"
"He was promoted to Vice Director last year, now he’s a Vice Mayor."
