Chapter 256: Chapter 194: The Decisive Blow_3
The three of them returned to the living room together, and Faye asked Richard, "Brother, why didn’t you invite your rowdy friends over for dinner today?"
Richard shot her a look, "Since they’re just rowdy friends, why would I call them over?"
Faye was utterly shocked by Richard’s words, "Wow, is the sun rising from the east today?"
Hunter laughed, "That’s right."
Faye looked at Richard puzzled, "Brother, what’s gotten into you?"
Richard sneered, "Why are you so hard to please?
You don’t like it when I hang out with that crowd, and you complain when I don’t interact with them.
So tell me, just what do you want to do?"
"No, nothing, this is good. Just keep your distance from them in the future."
Just as she finished speaking, Eliana walked over carrying a platter of fruit.
"Director Townsend, Mr. Warren, have some fruit."
Richard cast a disdainful glance at Eliana, "It’s not like you’re the maid here. Since when did this become your job?"
Eliana looked a bit embarrassed. His voice was loud enough that the servants in the kitchen could hear.
She stepped forward, lowering her voice in front of Richard, "Could you not be so harsh with your words?
I just wanted to personally cut some fruit for Director Townsend and Mr. Warren, is that so wrong?"
"You really don’t get it, do you?" Richard snorted, "Since you love housework so much, you might as well not go to work anymore. Just stay home and be a maid.
Anyway, this Director Townsend you mentioned can certainly afford to pay you."
Faye hissed, "Brother, what’s wrong with you? Brooke is your wife now, and you’re mocking her like this for no reason."
Richard glanced at Hunter, mustering up the courage, "Back when you married Mr. Warren, he mocked you plenty.
You were still happily tailing behind him every day like a fool, weren’t you?"
"That’s different, Hunter and I have a foundation of feelings, and you bullied Brooke..."
As Faye was speaking, Hunter took her wrist and said to Richard, "Therefore, as someone who’s been through this, let me warn you—if you continue to treat your wife like this, there will come a day when you regret it. Don’t you know? What goes around comes around."
Richard turned to look at Eliana, "Regret? She married me for money. What’s there to regret? There’s no emotional foundation."
Eliana’s expression didn’t change. After setting down the fruit platter, she pursed her lips at Faye, "Director Townsend, you all chat, I’ll go check the kitchen."
"Brooke... no, sis-in-law, we’re family now. Don’t call me Director Townsend anymore.
Even though you’re younger, I’ll just call you sis-in-law by seniority. You can call me Faye from now on."
Eliana thought for a moment and nodded, "Okay."
Watching Eliana leave, Faye sat next to Richard and whispered, "What’s the matter with you recently? You’re like an eggplant hit by frost every day.
You’re not alone anymore; you’ve settled down, can’t you..."
"Alright, you’re more annoying than Mom."
Faye pouted, "You think I want to meddle? If Mom were here, she definitely wouldn’t want to see you like this."
Richard casually stood up, hands in pockets, and walked out. As he passed Hunter, he said, "Mr. Warren, I’ll leave the matter with Walter Hansen to you. You all take your time sitting; I’m going out for a walk."
"Hey," Faye called after him, but Hunter shook his head at her. Faye was extremely frustrated. This was supposed to be his big day—what’s there to be morose about?
She glanced towards the kitchen where Eliana was. Looking at her, this sister-in-law of hers was truly pitiful.
To save her family, she married someone like Richard. What would she do with the rest of her life?
On the way home, Faye remained somewhat silent.
She had gone through a lot today, and her mind was truly in disarray.
First, Sebastian Sheldon gave her trouble; then, she confessed her past to Hunter, and there was also the issue with Walter Hansen...
Was today really an auspicious day?
She couldn’t feel that it was a good day at all.
Hunter seemed to sense her inner turmoil and didn’t bother her on the ride home; his hand remained on hers almost the entire way.
For inexplicable reasons, with Hunter’s support, Faye felt warmth in her heart.
By the time they arrived home, it was already past five. As they entered the hallway, they heard Darnley, who had returned early, asking someone questions.
Curious, as they looked inside, they discovered that the man sitting on the sofa was Lucas Warren.
Faye’s heart tightened. She instinctively rushed inside, pointing at Lucas, "Why are you here?"
