Chapter 104: Chapter 103.104: You Are My Daughter
Hearing Yan Xinxin softly murmur such a word with her hazy and tender gaze, Mo Chuxi felt as if his heart was soaked in champagne for a fleeting moment. He wasn’t drunk, but his heart was intoxicated.
By the time Yan Xinxin woke up, it was already the next day.
Looking at the clock, it was exactly ten.
"Oh no! How is it so late?!"
She hurriedly got out of bed to wash and freshen up. Just as she was about to head out of the room, she noticed a sticky note on the table.
Yan Xinxin picked it up and saw that it was a message from Mo Chuxi.
He had taken Xi to kindergarten.
The man hadn’t woken her up to make breakfast, had even dropped off Xi at school, and thoughtfully left a note.
Yan Xinxin frowned slightly and pondered.
This Mo Chuxi—was he really the same distant, aloof President Mo she had known before?
Yan Xinxin tidied up her designs and résumé, taking a deep breath.
Tomorrow, she would submit her résumé to Di Jue and prepare for the interview.
But before that, she needed something at least semi-decent to wear—she couldn’t possibly show up to the interview in her old school uniform, right?
Come to think of it, it had been ages since she last bought new clothes for herself.
With no classes today, she could afford to take a brief moment to relax.
Yan Xinxin changed into a white dress, threw on a light blue cardigan, and slung her small bag over her shoulder before heading to Central Square.
Since it wasn’t a holiday, the square was fairly empty. Yan Xinxin walked toward a clothing store at a leisurely pace.
"Xinxin-jiejie!"
An innocent and adorable voice called out—wasn’t that little Chenxi?
Yan Xinxin whipped around and, sure enough, there stood little Chenxi.
"So you’re Yan Xinxin?"
Just as Yan Xinxin prepared to greet little Chenxi, she spotted an elegant, striking woman scrutinizing her with a peculiar expression.
"And you are...?"
"I’m Mu Qianshui’s mother."
Mu Qianshui’s mother?
Yan Xinxin froze for a moment in surprise.
No wonder this woman seemed vaguely familiar—it turned out to be Mu Qianshui’s mother? Maybe it was because the mother and daughter shared some resemblance!
"Hello," she greeted with a polite smile, stepping forward.
"Xinxin-jiejie, I want to play with you. Can I?"
Little Chenxi tugged at Yan Xinxin’s dress, looking up at her with clear, sparkling eyes.
"Xixi, come back here," Ning Zitong called out, her noble features showing a hint of disapproval.
Recalling the previous so-called "abduction" misunderstanding, Yan Xinxin smiled faintly.
"Mrs. Mu, about what happened last time—it really was a misunderstanding. I happened to run into Chenxi by chance; I would never have done anything to harm her."
"The matter is in the past. I don’t want to bring it up again."
Ning Zitong replied coldly, her gaze scrutinizing Yan Xinxin’s face in detail.
Indeed, as Yuan’ai had mentioned—very beautiful.
Delicate features, bright and clear eyes. This face was undeniably stunning, but it inexplicably gave her a strange sense of familiarity.
"Xinxin-jiejie."
Little Chenxi still stood next to Yan Xinxin, tugging at her dress.
Yan Xinxin crouched down with a smile, holding little Chenxi’s tiny hand.
"Chenxi, be good. Xinxin-jiejie has something to do today and can’t play with you. How about another time?"
"But I want to stay with Xinxin-jiejie..."
Little Chenxi looked up at Yan Xinxin expectantly.
"Xixi, be good. Auntie will take you to the children’s playground later."
Ning Zitong reached out, pulling little Chenxi away as she turned to face Yan Xinxin.
"Lady Yan, I don’t know what you’ve said to Xixi, but I genuinely don’t like her having any interaction with you. In the future, I hope you’ll stay away from this child!"
Caught off guard by Ning Zitong’s hostility, Yan Xinxin straightened up. She thought for a moment before replying.
"Mrs. Mu, I harbor no ill intent toward Chenxi. Please don’t misunderstand me."
"I’m not misunderstanding you."
Ning Zitong’s tone was resolute as she shot Yan Xinxin a resistant glare.
"I won’t allow the children in my family to associate with an unmarried mother who gave birth at eighteen."
Yan Xinxin’s face stiffened, unprepared for such a direct wound to her sore spot.
"Not only were you an unwed mother, but you cohabited with a man while still in school. If you were my daughter, I would have kicked you out of the house!"
With an angry glare, Ning Zitong finished and pulled little Chenxi along.
"Xixi, we’re leaving!"
"Auntie, wait! Xinxin-jiejie..."
Little Chenxi glanced back at Yan Xinxin, standing frozen in place, but could only watch as Ning Zitong led her farther and farther away.
Yan Xinxin clutched the straps of her bag tightly, a bitter, sour feeling welling up inside her.
Unwed motherhood and living with a man—none of these had been her choices, but no one would believe her, let alone understand...
She let out a mocking laugh, shaking off her thoughts. Without dwelling on it further, she turned and stepped into a mid-range clothing store, intent on buying a white blouse.
Since it wasn’t a holiday, there weren’t many customers. As soon as Yan Xinxin entered, a sales assistant approached her.
Noticing that Yan Xinxin’s clothing looked inexpensive, the assistant immediately lost her enthusiasm.
"Miss, our store has a policy that white clothing cannot be tried on. If you intend to buy something, just let me know your size. But I should warn you, our prices are on the higher side—are you sure you want to buy?"
Yan Xinxin was about to grab a hanger when her hand paused mid-air. This voice sounded incredibly familiar.
She turned around and looked. To her surprise, it was Mo Xiaoli, standing alongside Xue Mengshi—they were both working here part-time as sales assistants.
As soon as Mo Xiaoli recognized Yan Xinxin, she broke into a mocking sneer.
"Well, well! Who do we have here? Isn’t it our former school belle, the ever-pure Lady Yan Xinxin!"
Former school? Yan Xinxin frowned in confusion. Did that mean the two of them had been expelled?
