Chapter 233: Chapter 221 Hmm! You ambushed me! (Second update)
"Equal treatment—that’s the only way to show that Shen Ying is one big family. Once you’re here, you’re all brothers."
"Got it." Yi Luowa pursed her lips thoughtfully. "As long as it doesn’t interfere with you, I’d actually love to try living like you guys do."
"It won’t interfere. You’re the expert I invited here. By the way, where did you have the shock absorbers sent to?"
"I had them shipped to the airport. When the time comes, I’ll ask Ao Lie to pick them up."
"I’ll arrange for someone else to go. Ao Lie should stay at the hospital to look after our Second Uncle." Tong Airui glanced at the time. "Are you tired? If you are, there’s a bedroom inside where you can rest for a bit."
"You have a bedroom here?"
Tong Airui chuckled and lightly slapped her on the backside. "Of course. How else would I rest? Actually, I have living quarters in the compound too; I just find it a hassle to go there, so I almost always rest in the office."
"Let me take a look." Yi Luowa hopped off his lap and darted into the bedroom. It was considerably smaller compared to the outer office, but for its size, it was impressively well-appointed. Aside from lacking a kitchen, it had everything you’d expect.
Looking at the bed with the blanket folded neatly into a rectangle, Yi Luowa turned back to glance at Tong Airui, who had followed her in. "Fourth Brother, I thought only Z country’s soldiers folded their blankets like this."
"I went to military school over there. Even though this isn’t a military camp, and I’m not a soldier anymore, I still hold everyone to military standards."
Yi Luowa sat on the bed and reached out to test its firmness. "Kind of hard. Do you sleep comfortably on it?"
"I’ve slept in far worse conditions."
Yi Luowa sighed. "Thinking about it, you really don’t have it easy."
"Doctor Ruan! The captain is in a meeting. Please don’t barge in uninvited!" A cold voice from outside belonged to Da Peng.
"Fine, I won’t barge in! Every team member has undergone a medical check-up except for the captain. He just got back from abroad. If he’s carrying some infectious disease, are you going to take responsibility?" A sharp female voice cut through the air.
Yi Luowa pouted slightly. "You better go out and deal with it!"
"Completely outrageous!" Tong Airui’s face darkened immediately.
Yi Luowa laughed and nudged him toward the door. "She’s doing this for your own good, you know."
"Bang!" The door burst open from the outside as a tall woman stormed in, her aura imposing.
Her gaze landed on Tong Airui’s hand, which was still resting on Yi Luowa’s. Her brows furrowed slightly.
Yi Luowa awkwardly pulled her hand away and walked to the window in slow steps.
Da Peng rushed in, looking flustered. "I’m sorry..."
"Get out!" Tong Airui snapped sharply.
Da Peng quickly retreated without further delay.
"You too!" Tong Airui’s glowering gaze shifted to Doctor Ruan.
Doctor Ruan, however, didn’t leave. Instead, she placed her medical kit on the desk. "I just need one drop of blood from the captain. Once I have it, I’ll leave immediately. As far as I recall, this rule was established by the captain himself. If you don’t follow it, how are the subordinates supposed to view it?"
Tong Airui clenched his fists. Today, of all days, it felt like someone had sent everyone to mess with him!
"Ahem—" Yi Luowa cleared her throat softly.
Tong Airui turned to look at her.
Yi Luowa gently shook her head.
"Then you do it. I don’t like women touching me!" Tong Airui mouthed the words to her.
Yi Luowa pointed to herself and mouthed back, "I’m a woman too. And anyway, I don’t know how to do it!"
"Are you helping or not?"
"Not helping!"
"If you won’t help, I’ll kick her out!"
Doctor Ruan watched their lips moving, but without hearing any sound, her puzzled gaze flickered back and forth between their mouths.
Noticing Tong Airui’s increasingly grim expression, Yi Luowa huffed and stomped over. "What tool do we use to draw blood? Hand it to me."
Doctor Ruan frowned and asked, "Are you a doctor?"
Yi Luowa pouted and replied, "No! But your captain insists I do this."
"Captain Aldrich..."
"Let her do it!" Tong Airui cut her off firmly. "For this one time only. Next time, for any matter, I don’t want you barging into my office! Don’t think that just because you’ve got a high-ranking father, I won’t deal with you!"
Doctor Ruan’s face flushed slightly as she raised her eyes to meet Tong Airui’s glare. "I know barging in was wrong, but this is work-related. You’ve been back for days, yet I haven’t even caught a glimpse of you."
A hint of complaint seeped into Doctor Ruan’s voice as Yi Luowa glanced her over with displeasure. Her height was roughly the same as Ai Ni—probably at least 175 centimeters—but she wasn’t as pretty or as adorable as Ai Ni. And judging by her age, she had to be at least twenty-seven or twenty-eight. Right?
With that thought, Yi Luowa’s heart instantly felt lighter. A woman like this wouldn’t attract Fourth Brother’s interest. Why was she even bothering to get worked up over her?
"Doctor Ruan, is it? Hurry up and give me the blood-drawing tools so I can get this done, and you can report back sooner." Yi Luowa beamed at her, her smile as sweet as honey.
Doctor Ruan hesitated for a moment. Seeing Tong Airui staring coldly at her, she reluctantly took out the blood-drawing kit from her medical box.
Yi Luowa grabbed Tong Airui’s hand and mimicked how doctors at the hospital had drawn blood from her before, disinfecting his finger carefully.
"One shot, clean and quick. Don’t make me suffer a second time," Tong Airui teased her as he saw her pick up the needle.
Doctor Ruan stared at the charming smile on his face, feeling a pang of bitterness in her chest. From what she could see, this little girl was definitely not an expert. The two of them whispering and being all cozy in the office had to mean they were lovers.
"Don’t be so sure!" Yi Luowa grinned mischievously, holding onto his hand. "You brave bullets and bombs, but you’re scared of me pricking you a few times?"
"Are you trying to scare me? Talking about pricking me three times!" Tong Airui playfully ruffled her hair. "If you can’t manage it, just bite me. That might actually be more reliable... Wait—hey! You’re ambushing me!"
While Tong Airui was still tussling with Yi Luowa’s hair, she swiftly brought the needle down, sharp and precise.
"Didn’t hurt, did it? I barely even used any force." Yi Luowa tilted her face up with an impish smile.
